In all honesty, the best Devastator is the official HASTAK, CW titant class. Because not only he's the REAL Devastator, not a re-imagining, he's accurate to the G1 toy and cartoon to a T. Especially the "Cartoon colored" re-issue.

I don't necessarily disagree, but technically CW Devy is a reimagining too, with the updated vehicles and all.

The one that is mostly updated is Mixmaster. The rest are almost 1:1 remakes à-la Masterpeice.

By the way, one design "flaw" that is clearly a genius design is Longhauls carrying bin. Once transformed, it have 2 giant holes, where Longhaul's kneecaps used to be. This allow Devastator to have a "thin" waist because the truck dump bin is "invisible" as the back kibble. That's just brilliant.

Also, the infamous Herculese. I personally find it butt-ugly and he's also tiny compared to CW Devy.

Okay, I admit, he's pretty awesome looking. Still, it's pretty disapointing that a fake Devastator is half the size as the real one for 3X the price.

That's Maketoys Giant - again with the narrow waist so typical of third-party combiners!

Btw do you wanna get that 3rd party Mixmaster to combine with Devy? I can't decide! :BANG_HEAD:

Nah. I'm impressed by what I've seen in the reviews so I'll be sticking with the regular Devy :BOT:

Yeah I'm just getting Takara Devy, then maybe if I wanna get that Mixmaster a couple months later, I'll probably go after it. But really, I need some Masterpieces, which are more important to me then that 3rd party Mixmaster!

I am hoping that Costco gets Devastator like they did Metroplex. My only thought with that is that perhaps Hasbro learned their lesson and didn't over-purchase Devastator. The worst part is, that by the time I find out if they will have Devastator or not, he probably won't be available anywhere. I just can't really justify a $150 expenditure on a toy anymore.

Just tell you that you are buying 6 voyagers at 25$ each. If you really love Devastator but wait for a sale, you may have to pay scalper prices down the line. However, if you don't care enough, skip it and save money.

I never had Devastator as a kid. He is kind of a holy grail toy to me. I may end up picking him up if I get a coupon or find him on sale. BBTS has him for a little less, so they might be an option in the end, especially since they tend to have a steady stock of him.

And convincing myself I am buying six toys instead of one actually makes it worse. I just wish he was not the price of almost two regular CW combiners.

I am hoping they gave some form of a biceps cut to Mixmaster and Hook, so that they can cross their arms or something.

Btw some of those links don't work on my computer for some reason, so I have no idea what you mean by "re-engineered knees on Bonecrusher and Scavenger", and in this picture:

Their knees look the same.

If you have another picture that would be great. :-P

I don't think you can go wrong with either version.

The lack of elbows on Hasbro's did limit the fun of the individual bots, but putting Devastator together was extremely satisfing. Very intuitive, clever and solid.

I view Takara's as the upgrade model with all the bells and whistles.

Personally, I'm balancing out the costs of buying the Takara version versus buying the Hasbro version with the PE upgrade set...so far the latter is winning out.

I'm thinking about the PE set, but I got Hasbro's because of cost. If I'm remembering correctly; with all things considered, that would put them around the same price.

The PE sets do seem to have some nice bits and pieces to them. It looks like Long Haul's arm upgrades have to go on and off though, where the others are permenent replacements.

Ok, ive had mine a week now. they are cheap looking out the box but solid enough with tons of detail so with a bit of paint these can look awesome, look the most like G1 Devastator by some distance, closer to scale and less than half the price of the 3rd party stuff ;)

Saying this now: I am very sad to see the bad rap some reviewers are giving him. All of those reviewers are comparing him to a 3rd party Devy and that is honestly unfair. He is no 3rd party masterpiece, but he is a quarter of the price and designed for people with smaller budgets and with kids. Give this guy his dues: He is pretty well engineered in combined mode and for the individuals too :BOT:

I love how his legs are cartoon-accurate, in that the thighs and calves are one continuous green brick with kibble in front. The third-party ones have their own aesthetic where the thigh is obviously different from the calf and looks less integrated, and often force a spread leg pose.

I think it is fair to point out flaws, the quality of the plastic is important for such a huge figure, as baltmatrix found out - to his dismay. If it is brittle or possibly going to break it's their job to warn us of these things. Visually, he is devestator, there is no 3p that beats it at that. I personally haven't seen any reviewers compare him to a 3p product, they just talk about how g1 he is, and how he has no articulation.

I would say that's a huge point in Hasbro's favor - because Long Haul is so freaking chubby, he can stand completely upright and isn't forced into an A-stance.

At the same time, the big reason I am bugged is because they are not giving enough credit to engineering on an affordable scale. 3rd party companies spoil those who make reviews cause they can afford it, and because they have all these guys they really look down on a hastak product as inferior, which as it may be true, it is shooting for something and people very different in audience. every reviewer i have watched has also reviewed a 3rd party version and grades hastak stuff as such against it :BOT:

While that is true, I think the plastic/engineering quality is something to be concerned about/interested in. Balts' scrappers' bucket arm snapped, and from what I've seen of everyone else, the plastic does seem super thin and brittle; now I realize that this yields a figure that is cheaper, and abnormally light and can thus hold many poses quite well, but what happens when it starts cracking from stress, or tight hinges? I've already seen that the ankle pivots are prone to breaking, scrappers bucket arm can break easily, and the shoulder joints seem to be prone to suffering from high amounts of stress.

He is no 3rd party masterpiece, but he is a quarter of the price and designed for people with smaller budgets and with kids. Give this guy his dues: He is pretty well engineered in combined mode and for the individuals too :BOT:

I think it is fair to point out flaws, the quality of the plastic is important for such a huge figure, as baltmatrix found out - to his dismay. If it is brittle or possibly going to break it's their job to warn us of these things. Visually, he is devestator, there is no 3p that beats it at that. I personally haven't seen any reviewers compare him to a 3p product, they just talk about how g1 he is, and how he has no articulation.

I would take Baltmatrix reviews with a grain of salt. He's the only reviewer I've seen who consistently breaks his figures. The guy is seriously ham-fisted.

Not to say it's not something to look out for; just that I would watch other reviewers too to get a wider sense of peoples' experiences with the set.
