40K assembly question

So for painting methods, do you do the assembly line style? I'm very prone to going through the tedious process of painting them one color at a time. Note, this is faster, but also mundane when you pick out all of one color on a set of troops and then move onto the next color.

well, yes and no. since I'm using the sons of malice paint scheme I have to start with the white coat of base paint, then set up the black arm, half of the chest, and leg, and then going for the gold trim. but I when it comes to the gold part I'm hardly mechanistic about it. I tend to notice something and try to fix it. maybe I am and maybe I'm not.
I still have 6 unpainted marines, since I'm giving them bolters and a meltagun I'm trying to get the empty arm that holds the gun on their torso first. I hate painting these guys with lots of obstructions in the way (that huge melta gun carried over the chest would be a bitch)

I'm already hating the sorcerer of chaos I have. my marines are blank slates compared to him. =/

My latest update. its a big pic, so I suggest copying it to get a good look. the icon of nurgle is my best work so far. changed to the Purge instead of the Sons of Malice cause its easier to paint them

hey thanks man. :3
I would have preferred to use Blazing Orange for a better rust effect but I don't have any. With the costs of models and paints I really can't afford the variation in color I want. really, my local shop wants 45 bucks for a box of 7 plague marines. ><

I'd recently started looking for good prices for Plague marines when i saw you can convert vanilla CSMs using greenstuff. I have no experience with modeling clay but I'd be willing to try it.
But as for armament I know the sprues in the CSM box came with next to diddly. I'd want a multimelta at least. ><
and yes, I do feel a little envy over that winged Nurgle prince. (funny how the undivided one also has no wings included.

Ya, they aren't really the best choice for their price. I have two squads of six though. All armed with sonic blasters and blastmasters. Great looking minis, and very fluffy, but only really good for laying down lots of sonic weaponry. Their +1 initiative isn't all that great.
Here are my Death Guard:

Also, I think I'm seeing a possessed marine claw on the lead marine. I can also tell you're using the pre heresy scheme on them. odd choice but it works. 'Course, I love the death guard fluff.

The wings are from a Macfarlane Dragon I picked on discount lol!
The claw (count as powerfist) is a plastic CSM arm, with two Daemonette claws put together.
Ya, I love Heresy era schemes on my traitor Marines. My Emperor's Children are also painted in their pre-Heresy scheme. After reading the Horus Heresy books from Black Library, I just can't get enough Warhammer 30,000

I see I'm going to have to think a bit more out of the box if I'm going to start converting. I never even thought about the slasnesh demonettes... Really, who cares about possessed? X3 (though they look friggin badass)
Miniwargaming.com is a good place I learned about, and what got me into 40k. But I loved this idea that they showed. I wanted Noise marines but I want to run a nurgle army. Well, an army based around Epidemius, tallyman of nurgle. And I loved the idea they presented: cross cult marines.

The owner, Shawn, shows an enthusiasm for the hobby like no other! These guys are a mini painting studio, that kick out some of the most impressive armies I've seen. They do plenty of in depth battle reports as well. I attribute most of my love for the hobby from them!
Some of those cross-cult marines are great! Miniwargaming.com is another great group in the hobby!

Oh yeah, they have YT channel too, they show off games, tactics, in game history. both fantasy and 40k.
best thing: they all operate a hobby shop specializing in selling models, including 40k. Another YT painter that cemented my desire to play was Girlpainting. She's done a lot of the chaos space marine legions, as well as other factions and other games.
