Wasn't Optimus also a Knight? I thought he said something like "recognize one of your knights."

I'm talking strictly Dinobots. I'm still not sure how or why Optimus is a knight, though.

That's most likely what the next film will be about. To explain some of those origins.

In my opinion Age of Extinction earned 5 out 5 stars with two thumbs up. It had a great plot everything was original and the human and transformers cast did an excellent job. The movie was awesome and it had its funny moments.

The Medieval Knights design for Optimus and the dinobots was incredible. they could have at least had the dinobots speak too but all in all its was great, what with Bumblebee also haaving his tantrum listening to the reviews between him and his cheap knockoff.

If anyone didn't already notice the movie does show at most a small look at an organic beings hand, this leading to believe that that is a "Creator", but i think everyone knows that.

To wrap this up it was a great movie and i recommend that if you still haven't gone and watched it, to go do so; you will enjoy watching the movie.

To all those critics that gave the movie very poor reviews they have no good tastes in a quality movie. Don't always believe the reviews that critics give, watch it yourself and make your decision on how the movie turned out.

Michael Bay: Putting the "stink" in "Extinction" <whomp wah>

Postby Janitor » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:11 pm

Happy Monday everyone! I saw AoE in IMAX 3D with my wife on Saturday night, here are my thoughts **WARNING: EXTREMELY LONG, NERD RAGE-Y/WALL OF TEXT POST AHEAD!!**

First: the Positives
-Marky Mark…I guess. Likeable star, adequate action hero. Does his best with what he’s given
-Bay actually listened to many of the past complaints. We got: no military, less objectification of women, only one scene with a shouting black woman, so…thank you?
-if you though DOTM took a lot of cues from G1, check out what AoE lifted from Animated, which I certainly did appreciate:
  • Lockdown was certifiably baddass, although he doesn't quite measure up to Lance Henriksen’s portrayal (now that dude was cold-blooded).
  • …who takes out Ratchet. Poor, poor Ratchet…
  • also: Megaton’s head secretly running the show from behind the scenes of a lab, playing the scientist(s) who think they’re getting new technology out of the situation but are really just helping to rebuild him
-didn’t mind the new band of Autobots, I even let the whole “to sell toys” thing slide on this one

Negatives
Sorry, but my brain could not stop nit-picking. Constantly. Like, every 15 seconds I always had a problem with something onscreen.
-am I watching Prometheus? And this is how many times now that something ties Cybertron and Earth’s past (Movie 1: Megatron crash lands on Earth. ROTF: Pyramids something something. DOTM: Sentinel Prime crashes on our moon)? Alright, I get this could be a “bigger picture” thing, involving the Quintissons or something. But as you can see I’m not the biggest fan of the constant retcons.
-as the CIA’s searching for Optimus Prime inside the barn using flashlights, one of the agent’s still wearing his sunglasses. Let me repeat: USING FLASHLIGHTS. STILL WEARING HIS SUNGLASSES.
-this is not the Optimus Prime we remember, know, and love. I get that the Autobots were betrayed by the humans, but the non-stop kill talk? Come on!
-did they cast an Irish boyfriend just so Wahlberg can call him “lucky charms”?! Bay’s rationale was probably “Hey, it’s not racist if I made an actor of Irish descent say it!” I’m not gonna dwell on this as I don’t really think it’s that big of a deal, simply a thought given Bay’s history
-Autobots are on the run and in hiding, so what do they do? Choose the flashiest, most attention grabbing models of cars in the brightest colours possible. Prime himself goes back to his old colours + flame decals!! WTF??
-stupid damsel in distress makes stupid decisions. From the Prime vs Galvatron fight up to Lockdown snagging his bounty (Prime’s body) + SUV: RUN AWAY STUPID GIRL! RUN! ANYWHERE! IN LITERALLY ANY DIRECTION!!!
-Independence Day ripoff? Or…*cough* “homage”?
-in Chicago: when the CIA picks up the Seed via helicopter…why is Lockdown’s spaceship still so easily accessible by the Autobots on the ground? Isn’t the point of taking a choppa up there because then no one else can get on??
-our human characters getting bounced around like it’s nothing, can jump out of car going at highway speeds unscathed, and able to withstand the crazy G-forces when Drift/Bee are flying in that jet and caught in a aerial dogfight
-the weapon Marky Mark picks up (sized rather conveniently for humans to handle) didn’t have ANY recoil when fired?
-GAH! The blatant product placement!!! Bud Light! Victoria’s Secret! Hollywood’s never been subtle with their big-budget summer films, but you really don’t need to HOLD the shot of Bud Light bottles for that long before Marky Mark cracks into one
-so these new Deceptions don’t really transform, as much as they shapeshift like X-Men’s Mystique?
-did they just drive (and get chased) from Beijing to Hong Kong…OVERNIGHT!!! HOW COME NOBODY ELSE NOTICED THIS?!?!? BLARHGGHASDFJKL;
-WHO IN HONG KONG PLAYS AMERICAN FOOTBALL??? I can’t even begin to tell you how unlikely that is. If you’re from Hong Kong and play American football (over “soccer”) let me know who you are, as you’re truly one-of-a-kind.
-Lockdown’s spaceship magnet thingy felt like a variation of Zod’s “world engine” from Man of Steel. I really didn’t get the point of that who scene, was it suppose to suck up the Seed (which some humans were able to hold down anyways, giant robots however don’t stand a chance)
-DINOBOTS!! W00T! They’ve always been fan favorites, and from all those posters and trailers they look amazing!!
Imagevia Imgflip Meme Maker
-“Dinobots, you are now free.” [or something to that effect]. To do what exactly, frolic about Hong Kong and stomp on any innocent humans?!?
-Frank Welker voice: “I’ll get you next time Gadget, err… I mean Optimus! Next time!!”
-yeah, that was one long-ass movie

*and more, MUCH more! But I’m tired of typing and it’s getting late.

Not sure who to blame for the framing at the show I attended (Scotiabank Theatre, Toronto), but either the filmmakers or the theatre itself screwed this up royally. A lot of shots jumped between standard widescreen and IMAX during a single scene and **** got distracting. Example:
Marky Mark at his house (widescreen)
cut to Black Real Estate Agent Lady barges in (full IMAX)
cut to MM shouting at BREAL (widescreen)
cut to BREAL shouting back at MM (full IMAX)

Whereas with say, The Dark Knight, an entire scene would be in IMAX (ie. the opening bank heist) but then switch back to widescreen after the scene was over.
And every once in a while the quality of a shot looked downright atrocious. I’m talking “bootleg camcorder quality”, no exaggeration.

The marketing itself: felt like a half-assed viral attempt at replicating District 9 with their “report an alien” stuff

Other observations (not necessarily positive nor negative)
-Dr. Fraser McCoy: cartoonishly evil, didn’t love or hate him. The character’s death was completely lame though.
-Jeve Stobs: I think Stanley Tucci is fantastic in the Hunger Games series. Here he was on the meh side.
-while I’m glad they tried to give Hound more screen time/lines, I found the part where he was just blasting away and spouting off endless one-liners completely grating. Bonus points for John Goodman though

Now before anyone replies, a few (common) items I'd like to address:
-To answer all those typical "What did you expect? This isn't Citizen Kane/Godfather/random-highly-acclaimed-classic-film, it's a sci-fi film about transforming robots!" straw man arguments we see EVERY SINGLE TIME a Bay-formers (or any genre) film hits: please know there is such a thing as a GOOD Transformer film, just like how there are good and bad films of ANY subject matter. Otherwise your approach makes absolutely zero sense. By your logic you could defend Batman & Robin with “What do you expect? It’s a comic book film about a millionaire dressed as bat who fights crime!”
Back to TFs: with the 2007 Bay film, a lot of fans (myself included) thought it was really well done. The action was tight, story was solid, and humans were tolerable (and for the most part, necessary) while all the things we loathe about Bay were kept to a reasonable/acceptable level: his military boner, constant objectification of women, obnoxious and loud black caricatures. Thus the movie rarely suffered because of it. With ROTF/DOTM, Bay went back to doing all his usual crap.
-“Eff the critics! AoE made a kajillion $$$ so who cares?!” While studio execs may feel otherwise, the amount of money a movie makes should not matter and is not a direct reflection of the film’s quality/your personal enjoyment of a film. FYI the Twilight series made a buttload of money too.
-“Y’all hate Michael Bay because you think it’s cool! Or just for the sake of it” No, I think I’ve been pretty fair to Bay. The Rock is still one of my favorite action movies of all-time, but I hated Armageddon, Bad Boys, ROTF, AoE… Plus everyone should be able to voice their opinions on whether or not they enjoyed the works a filmmaker without being branded as a “hater”.

The bottom line is I don’t care if you genuinely enjoyed what is considered a terrible film, more power to you. But these same old arguments that get tossed around are downright stupid.
Remember you can still be a Transformer fan while also being critical. I love G1, but will be the first to fully admit how awful episodes like Carnage in C-Minor are.

Sidenote: I just introduced my wife to G1, and even as a complete TF noob she got a better understanding/enjoyment from the two Dinobot episodes she watched (SOS Dinobots and War of the Dinobots) than what AoE gave us.

Final score - 3/10

For reference:
Transformers (2007) - 9/10
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 2/10
Transformers: Dark of the Moon - 6.5/10
Transformers: The Movie (1986) - 11/10

The only line I read in that wall of text was that the first movie had tight action. BAHAHA! You couldn't even see the action, the entire movie. Tell me, how did the movie have tight action, when you couldn't see it? Even so, most of the "action" consisted of people running with the camera man having a seizure or something while filming.

I won't go through your post and counter all the points you made because some of them are valid and some of them just don't make sense, and like you, I am also tired. but these I can answer.

Janitor wrote:-WHO IN HONG KONG PLAYS AMERICAN FOOTBALL??? I can’t even begin to tell you how unlikely that is. If you’re from Hong Kong and play American football (over “soccer”) let me know who you are, as you’re truly one-of-a-kind.

Just because someone has an American football on the shelf doesn't necessarily make that person a player or even a serious follower. The football looked very old, it was most likely left there by someone who is/was older. Like the father of the guy (who possibly could have been American) or something. The point of the football was to bring to a close a point opened at the beginning, where Wahlberg's character hit his "employee/partner" in the face with the football, just like he did to Savoy during the fight.

It wasn't anything like the World Engine. The World Engine was a tool for terraforming the planet. The mechanism on Lockdown's ship was specified by Optimus as magnetic, which answers to why the Transformers and vehicles and other stuff got sucked up and humans didn't. The Seed was getting sucked up, and it took 3 of the people in the car to keep it on the ground. As for the purpose of the machine? This wasn't in the movie, but I believe a sound theory is that it's simply a tool for Lockdown to capture certain targets he's after. remember, he's a bounty hunter, and his ship is a prison.

As for your opinion on the movie, you're absolutely entitled to it. I disagree with it.

Some guy who used to be a hip hop "artist" 20 years ago. I have never seen him in a movie though. Matter of fact, I haven't seen that guy in about 20 years. Disappeared sometime around the time MARK WAHLBERG THE ACTOR appeared on the scene. I wish people would stop confusing the 2...

I could talk about the movie for hours. Out of the three Bayverse movies I have seen (RotF, DotM, AoE), this one is my favorite. First of all, on a Transformers movie, the fans' ratings will be more useful than the critics' scores, because lots of what made this movie good was the stuff that only long-time fans would get, such as certain plot elements and character traits.
I liked how AoE was quite a mix of the plot and characters of G1, Animated, and TFP especially. Lockdown was my favorite character and a GREAT addition to the movie. He was so cool! Galvatron was pretty cool, too. Not as cool as he was in G1, but he was Ok. I was so relieved to find out that he was actually going to be, you know, a sentient being after a bit, and I was also happy that Welker voiced him again. Now for the Autobots. I don't have much to say about Crosshairs, Bee or Prime. They were pretty cool, but I will say once again that Bumblebee is possibly the most overrated character in Transformers history. Drift reminded me of Yokitron from Animated, and Hound reminded me of Bulkhead. Oh, yeah. And poor Ratchet! I was disappointed by the Dinobots, though. They got so little screen time and weren't even named, nor did they get any speaking lines! Come on, Bay! They had so much potential!
I liked how we got both Lockdown and the whole cyberforming Earth thing both into the plot, with some suspense. It was a little bit too much of a commercial for the next one, but I'm ready to see TF5 and the Quintessons or whoever appears in TF5. The Dinobots and Galvatron better come back in a good way, too. Did I mention I would happily freak if Cyclonus appeared in the next one? Also, even though this isn't a very Michael Bay thing, I'm just going to introduce the thought of Starscream's Ghost in the next one. Not good, not bad. Just think about that for a minute.
Even though it still has the Bay-like unexplained explosions and somewhat weakly carried out plot, I would still say that overall, this movie was pretty good. It's worth watching. :APPLAUSE:

Some guy who used to be a hip hop "artist" 20 years ago. I have never seen him in a movie though. Matter of fact, I haven't seen that guy in about 20 years. Disappeared sometime around the time MARK WAHLBERG THE ACTOR appeared on the scene. I wish people would stop confusing the 2...

You gotta admit, it's funny when they use "Marky Mark" as a slur against him.

Why would explosions need to be explained? There are giant alien robots rampaging through the city shooting each other. If that isn't a cause for explosions, I don't know what is.

I feel like I'm the only one who actually really enjoyed seeing Optimus like this. I loved Optimus this movie, he actually showed some emotions.

Here's my take on Transformers: Age of Extiction. I'll try to be as un-spoilerific as I can.

When I went to see this movie I had no other intention but wanting to see giant robots kick the crap out of each other. That aspect of the film I really enjoyed and coming into the theater with that mindset made it easier for me to bear with Michael Bay's famous plot and character development skills.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros:
Lockdown was a badass and by far the best villain in the series. His ship and crew were awesome too.

Stanley Tucci and Mark Walberg did a good job.

John Goodman was awesome as Hound.

It was cool hearing Frank Welker do the voice of Galvatron.

Drift being a triple changer was really cool.

Optimus being a cab-over truck in the beginning was an awesome homage that fit well.

The humor was better than the previous films and didn't rely on sexual, off-the-wall, awkward humor too heavily like before.

The CGI was top notch like always. Idk why people are saying it's bad.

The MLP doll turning into a gun was funny.

Fight scenes were awesome.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cons:
The plot was iffy and had pacing issues; and that's putting it lightly. But that is to be expected by now if you've watched the previous Transformer films Bay has done. Some dialogue in the movie was just bad to the point of laughter.

I didn't have any problems with the movie's runtime but a lot of people will. The film is a 2 hour, 45 minute explosion-fest that I noticed left some people bored in the theater I attended.

I can understand how Optimus felt after seeing his friends killed and used for experimentation, but I think he went a little overboard with constant kill all humans talk. It was outside of his character.

Crosshairs, the green Autobot with the English accent, was a jerk and way too pessimistic to be an Autobot. I didn't like his character at all.

Girl's boy toy was nothing more than a necessity to juice the already weak plot and character development.

Where were the Autobots when Optimus got captured by Lockdown? They were all together on the road and when Galvatron, Stinger, and Lockdown show up Optimus is all alone.

There are plenty of scenes where human characters should suffer through whiplash, extreme g-forces, blunt force trauma, and glass/shrapnel cuts but get away unscathed.

Optimus was badly damaged at the beginning of the film. It seems like he's in dire straights but all it took was a scan of another vehicle form and he's all better. If that was all it took why did Optimus allow Walberg to repair some of him when he could of just asked for another vehicle to scan.

I'm not counting this as a negative, but I noticed Michael Bay really loves to change history with this franchise. First it was the Hoover Dam in the first film, then the Pyramids in the second, then the Moon landing and Chernobyl in the third, then finally the extinction of the dinosaurs in this film.

The Dinobots' names were never mentioned once in the film. That really irked me. It lessened their character value and diminished their overall importance in the TF lore and made them nothing more than savages. What's worse is they're only on screen for about 20 min. and then they're gone.

It really bugged make when Optimus could suddenly fly at the end of the film. He pulled a Pacific Rim basically. "Oh hey look, I can fly now." Gee that would have been really helpful earlier in the film.

It really annoyed me how the human-made transformers transform. Yes it's cool but they pretty much cheat by disassembling and rearranging themselves while looking like cyber silly putty instead of parts sliding around and fitting into place without detaching.

What made me a little mad was the transformium. It's such a cop out. It's like when George Lucas ruined the magic of the Force by introducing midichlorians. Michael Bay did the same thing by making something special and turning it into a simple explanation. I knew they would eventually explain how Transformers changed but come on that is such weak-sauce. As a matter of fact, since the human-made transformers can morph into anything like silly putty then why do they need vehicle kibble sticking out in botmode?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's other stuff I'm probably forgetting. Two hours and forty-five minutes is a lot to process. I'll probably see the movie again at my local $6 theater.

TLDR: If you loved the previous Transformer films for being CGI spectacles then go see it. Otherwise just skip it.

Wow, it looks like a lot of you went to see Transformers this weekend :) Thank you so much for all the love and support. I really appreciate all of the messages.

We have prepared a little score teaser, kind of an appetizer while we finalize the album. Keep an eye on iTunes this week, it should be appearing very soon, or as soon as iTunes decides to go live with it :)

Have a great week everyone....

Might be safe to mention that Steve earlier made a post on Facebook saying it's just a teaser album, while the full one is being finalized.
