Continuation of the Trilogy or Remimagining the Franchise

The final installment of the trilogy by Michael Bay has finally come and ended with all the members of the high command of the decepticons brutally murdered, the autobots seemingly won the day and series having an untimely end. The series in the past6 years have achieved tremendous success both for Hasbro and Paramount, Hasbro in particular have grown dependent on the trilogy and question remains will hasbro and paramount just accept the end of this profit making venture? Ultimately, it is a choice of continuing the trilogy or introduce a reimagined frnachise. I guess it will make no sense to re imagine something that already worked so well previously giiven that approach would be risky, time consuming and very very expensive. THe continuation of the trilogy will also be tough given that Bay selfishly and deliberately make it difficult to continue the story arc sensibly. Well, I guess they will think of something but if Bay would have followed the developments of the story like in the comics and novel it will be easier, since there the decepticons under megatron accepted a truce and retreated, rather than being dismembered by an ungrateful prime.

First, it's "reimagining" :P Fix the title, please.

As for the next set of films, given that there will be more, I hope there won't be a reboot. The story set up in Bayverse can be continued. There are a few more Decepticon leaders we can choose from. And maybe this time the (hopefully) new writer(s) will be able to get more mileage out of them than what happened to Megatron. He didn't have a 3-movie story arc, which he should have. I even understand him dying at the end of the first film, but then he should have stayed dead. Yet another facet of the clusterf**k part of Bayverse. As for the 'Cons, I'd like to see Bludgeon, Cyclonus, Straxus and perhaps Jhiaxus. On the 'Bot side, of course I want to see Rodimus Prime, Omega Supreme and even Ultra Magnus.

And I think Paramount and Hasbro will be all for a new set of films, as these movies have been cash cows for them.

Personally I feel that they should focus more on Lennox & Epps and ditch Sam and Carlee. Have the Military work with the Autobots to track and eliminate the surviving decepticons from the chicago battle plus the ones scattered around the world that were setting up sentinels pillars. Leave Megetron dead and let one of the other Decepticon leaders step up. :D

How about this

The void that sucked up cybertron and some decpeticons has awakened a galactic evil.....

Its aware of the transformers and earth now.....

cut to earth

Prime decides that he has to give megs and sentinal + others a proper send off and builds a ship to send them into the sun, viking funeral like.

The new "big" evil intercepts this ships and rebuilds megs sentinal into galvatron and or nemisis prime (with weird but good schizofrenia) and the armada (cyclonus, scourge & the Sweeps etc)

(The big evil is unicron, and some form of explanation of why everything TF gets carried to earth.... maybe make the humans unicrons creation of chaos :P)

Start 2 film arc
Toys
?????
Profit!

YAY unicron :P

or they could do something lame with headmasters......

I highly doubt they will introduce unicron into the existing franchice. Even though they haved used G1 style story plots into the films. I could see a possible 4th movie being hunting the remaining Decepticons scattered all over earth. Similiar to ROTF and they could infiltrate NEST steal the Matrix from Prime and re-activate Megatron and some other Decepticons.

Also give Megatron a Useful Altmode and purpose in the movie...

Very difficult choice ! I'm myself thinking about that issue since I watched DOTM.

In principle I'm against the reboot of any franchise: it's just so artificial to see the same theme/subject starting all over again. Really, it kills all the magic of the franchise.

From another side, are Transformers really a trilogy ? I don't think so: on each movie the Cybertronians have a completely different reason to come to Earth. The Transformers franchise is a fiasco as a story-telling trilogy.

My ideal solution would be a compromise: a PARTIAL REBOOT !

How does it work ? Very simple...

1) The 1st-movie, IMO the best of the current trilogy from the story-telling point of view, continues as the starting point of the franchise.

2) A new TRUE trilogy (i.e. a coherent story-line divided in 3 parts)starts with Megatron dead, the Allspark destroyed and the remaining Transformers (autobots & decepticons) hiding on Earth. Forget NEST, any open cooperation with governments, and most of the humans of the 1st trilogy (e.g Sam & parents, Mikaela, Carly). Only the military personnel deserves to continue IMO.

3) Well at this point any story-line is possible, as long as it respects a single premise: Transformers found planet Earth by accident while searching for the Allspark. Forget the Fallen, the original Primes meeting pre-historical humans and the Ark landed on the Moon.

Weapon: Electron-Pulse Gun
I'm all for a reboot.
They killed almost all of the major villians, and introducing new ones just to kill them off at the end of each movie would, simply put, hurt the franchise more than anything. There needs to be some kind of stability to the story, and some kind of red line in the aspect of villians.
If screamer OR megs would have still been alive I guess I would see more sense in continuing the trilogie. Perhaps the option "galvatron" would make some sense movieverse and continuing the franchise.

On the other hand if spielberg is going to be the new direktor of the films, perhaps he wanted to add his own point of views of the character in the movies and will reboot transformers with a new trilogie.

Its just like the cartoons. ^^

Absolutely no reason to reboot the series. Any goofs in continuity are no worse(which the Xmen films have far more goofs than the transformers films do, but the show goes on.) than the regular errors and retcons G1 had. (the matrix of leadership and Unicron both just came out of no where.) If comics or series rebooted everytime a few bad ideas came to light then nothing would ever get out of the first season. Ignore what doesn't work, and carry on.

There's plenty of room for villains besides Unicorn..I mean Unicron out there.(If he's ever used save him for the last movie. Build him up in the background, and allude to him but don't make him big bad #4.) We don't need a retreading of the 86 film. If we see a Galvatron, make it a whole new character not rebuilt Megatron. Jhiaxus, Straxus, Thunderwing, Liege Maximo, The quints or heck a whole new character all together could make it work. Megatron and Prime's classic battle just a sweet spot transformers, but there's more to the story than their classic struggle. (just like there's more to Xmen than Professor X and Magneto.)

I'd love to see them take a background character and revamp them into this sweet new villain. (Take Barricade, the movieverse is his definative verse now, as thats first thing anyone things of when they mention that name. Same with blackout, as animated homaged it.) May be have a movie where Bombshell of the insecticons leads. Or Hungurr and the terrorcons were a batch of decepticons so fearsome, that they were sealed away by the Fallen ages ago, and now are unleashed. Even the other Decepticons are afraid of them. There's so many things to tap into , to reboot and go back to sqaure oen of prime and Megatron would be a total waste. (I'd loved for Megatron to survived and had a final appearance for the grand finale on cyebrtron. I'm ok with him dying and the series moving forward.)

Cybertron was damaged possibly by the space bridge being shut down, but at most half to a third of it is gone as the entire world didn't make it to Earth, and it could be rebuilt. Making it viable for life is still a plot thread hanging along with the 200 some decepticons running around the Earth that weren't in Chicago spreading the pillars.

I'm overall happy with the first trilogy as a starting point to transformers universe for the general public. I feel bay has run his course, and it's time for a new take , as they can go deeper into the mythology of the series. To stop now would be madness as things just got good hehe.

Which for love of Primus...have other Autobots besides Prime and Bumble bee kill stuff. I'd love for them to intro a whole group of Autobots land on Earth. We need some red shirt autobots to die besides ones we like. Have an autobot city in the Desert, and have a massive battle like 300 with transformers hehe. And we need some Aerial bots action, Silverbolt in partial, as the series has yet to have a dogfight between transformers. Or a naval battle, bring in Depthcharge (he has a movieverse toy already.) or Broadside (that carrier transformer Bay always wanted to do.)

So really what reason is there reboot? The trilogy of villains is dead...So what? 86 killed them off, and made Soundwave part of the Decepticon Benchwarmers. Sure I'd liked for few of the bodycounts to been reversed, but whats done is done. It's not as if the design style going suddenly change because Bay is gone. Hasbro has likely more say with how transformers look than Bay did. They seem like the designs as they made Transformers Prime look very much like the movieverse and Bay had nothing do with it. I am very anti-rebooting the series, and I'm grateful they seem to be of the same mindset.

I have to agree that there is plenty of material in the current ‘verse to fuel three more movies or more.
But I’d like a female human lead this time, one with;
1) A deep personal grudge against the Decpticons.
2) Hard core life skills.
3) Enough muscle to handle a real weapon.
4) A REASON for being in the story other than some guy thought she was hot.
5) A wardrobe of actual clothes instead of a Victoria’s secret catalogue.
6) At least enough brain cells to pass the ASVAB.
Where, you ask, might such a character come from?
Remember the start of the very first movie? Lennox was talking to his wife and the daughter he’d never met over the computer before the signal went? One of the last scenes is Ironhide arriving at Lennox’s house and watching Lennox greet his little girl for the first time. One of the first scenes in the Shanghigh battle of the second movie makes a point of showing off Lennox’s and Ironhide’s friendship.
So, here’s the basis for my dream movie.
-Little Miss Lennox essentially met Ironhide at the same time she met her father.
-Ironhide makes a habit of going home with Lennox on leave.
-The Lennox family bonds with Ironhide over the 4+ years he was on Earth, but especially the girl.
-They are all devastated, but none more so than five year old Miss Lennox, at the death of “Uncle Ironhide”.
-She grows up and follows in Daddy’s footsteps graduates West Point, becomes an Army Ranger, and joins NEST.
In the intervening two decades or so the Autobots have been cleaning up the remaining Decpticons. Once in NEST she befriends one of the younger Autobots who Ironhide trained. This should be easy because he trained most of them. A strong new leader arises among the Decpticons. NEST has to rise to the occasion. Captain Lennox leads the humans. Prime admires her spirit and skills but constantly has to reign in her thirst for revenge.
I’m thinking someone like Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter SG-1)for the role.
Maybe they could throw in an older G1 Daniel as her love interest, but it’s a war story, not a chick flick.

There's nothing selfish about what Bay and Co. did. He ended the triogy of the movies he was signed on to do the way he and the writers saw fit. Like others have said, its not like there aren't other vilians to choose from.

Also, its not like other directors/producers haven't done the exact same thing with the end of a trilogy. By doing so it makes the writers more creative and gives the audience something new.

But back on topic, i know its been said to death, but i'm kind of in agreeance that the next logical steps would be Nemisis Prime and or posisbly Galvatron. My vote would be for Nemisis Prime. He doesn't nessasarly have to be brought back from the corpse of Sentinel, but either way could work.

Just my preference, but I'd say start fresh. I walked out of the first movie in disgust, and decided right then and there that I'd never watch a sequel to it. If they start fresh, I can rejoin the fandom instead of feeling like an exile because I don't like the movies.

On the other hand, I'm saving money on the costs of tickets, snacks, DVDs and Blu-ray disks.
