Absolutely no reason to reboot the series. Any goofs in continuity are no worse(which the Xmen films have far more goofs than the transformers films do, but the show goes on.) than the regular errors and retcons G1 had. (the matrix of leadership and Unicron both just came out of no where.) If comics or series rebooted everytime a few bad ideas came to light then nothing would ever get out of the first season. Ignore what doesn't work, and carry on.
There's plenty of room for villains besides Unicorn..I mean Unicron out there.(If he's ever used save him for the last movie. Build him up in the background, and allude to him but don't make him big bad #4.) We don't need a retreading of the 86 film. If we see a Galvatron, make it a whole new character not rebuilt Megatron. Jhiaxus, Straxus, Thunderwing, Liege Maximo, The quints or heck a whole new character all together could make it work. Megatron and Prime's classic battle just a sweet spot transformers, but there's more to the story than their classic struggle. (just like there's more to Xmen than Professor X and Magneto.)
I'd love to see them take a background character and revamp them into this sweet new villain. (Take Barricade, the movieverse is his definative verse now, as thats first thing anyone things of when they mention that name. Same with blackout, as animated homaged it.) May be have a movie where Bombshell of the insecticons leads. Or Hungurr and the terrorcons were a batch of decepticons so fearsome, that they were sealed away by the Fallen ages ago, and now are unleashed. Even the other Decepticons are afraid of them. There's so many things to tap into , to reboot and go back to sqaure oen of prime and Megatron would be a total waste. (I'd loved for Megatron to survived and had a final appearance for the grand finale on cyebrtron. I'm ok with him dying and the series moving forward.)
Cybertron was damaged possibly by the space bridge being shut down, but at most half to a third of it is gone as the entire world didn't make it to Earth, and it could be rebuilt. Making it viable for life is still a plot thread hanging along with the 200 some decepticons running around the Earth that weren't in Chicago spreading the pillars.
I'm overall happy with the first trilogy as a starting point to transformers universe for the general public. I feel bay has run his course, and it's time for a new take , as they can go deeper into the mythology of the series. To stop now would be madness as things just got good hehe.
Which for love of Primus...have other Autobots besides Prime and Bumble bee kill stuff. I'd love for them to intro a whole group of Autobots land on Earth. We need some red shirt autobots to die besides ones we like. Have an autobot city in the Desert, and have a massive battle like 300 with transformers hehe. And we need some Aerial bots action, Silverbolt in partial, as the series has yet to have a dogfight between transformers. Or a naval battle, bring in Depthcharge (he has a movieverse toy already.) or Broadside (that carrier transformer Bay always wanted to do.)
So really what reason is there reboot? The trilogy of villains is dead...So what? 86 killed them off, and made Soundwave part of the Decepticon Benchwarmers. Sure I'd liked for few of the bodycounts to been reversed, but whats done is done. It's not as if the design style going suddenly change because Bay is gone. Hasbro has likely more say with how transformers look than Bay did. They seem like the designs as they made Transformers Prime look very much like the movieverse and Bay had nothing do with it. I am very anti-rebooting the series, and I'm grateful they seem to be of the same mindset.
