i hate to be a downer, i honestly want to like this movie
but presently the only design i can get behind is BB (and bonecrusher could be sick too -but havent seen enough of him)
i just hope this movie doesnt turn me off the franchise comlpetely like the StarWars prequels did

Alright, I apologise beforehand for my outlashing but enough is enough. Yes... the movie ain't G1. **** drop the "Geewhunner" rebutal and realize that people just DO NOT like the design and get off the fandom's dick. And before you say "ZOMG! WAIt 4 dA MOv13 2 B r3LEAs3d!!11!".. I can only go so far with good faith, hopes, and wishes. To those that whine about it not being like the G1 cartoon; growup and accept change.

I knew that changes would have to be made inorder to fit a new millenium of fans and what not; I had no problem with that. At first, I had my difficulty accepting the "revamped" designs to attract all crowds not just the fandom, but I started to love the new designs as production steamed ahead. I kept to myself and swallowed down everything of hatred cause' with time I came around. But the faceplate is the limitbreaker. I do not like the idea of Prime without it at all. For Christs sake, he looks like Dinobot from the Beast Wars series!



Listen, screw the lineage of Primes... Say the name Optimus Prime and people remember the red semi Transformer, but more noteably... the blue head and faceplate headshot. This whole "human touch" is going overboard already.

I'm begining to agree with a friend now... Slap another name on this movie and it will kick so much ass. But like most, I will go see it opening night with my head up high and pay homage to my childhood... no matter the cost.

The fact that Apex Prime had to say " Prime is the one on the left with shia" should say it all. If he looked like Prime, he would not have said anything except "Check these out!!"

Doesent look like Optimus Prime to me. And he does look Dinobot!!! Helmut and everything.

Actually, I just forgot the word "in" as in "Prime is in the one on the left", because all you see on the link is Shia. I for one think he looks like Prime, and wasn't trying to say anything with my little typo. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, and Prime is on Shia's right, anyway, so that really didn't make any sense. Nice try, though.

Well how would you react if you came into contact with a massive warrior robot, whose trying to protect you? The fact that he uses a semblance of a human face is to minimize panic as much as possible (to be fair, it the whole 30 feet tall doesn't doesn't exactly help.)

And another thing, why are so many people getting pissed of because Optimus has a food-hole? Of all the things to nit-pick about the movie, this is the focus of frustration? Honestly people. In the time Optimus has been around we've seen him as a fire truck, a porsche, a gorilla/tank/jet/hippie, some bizzare form of tow truck (look to G2 hero prime), and at least 4 megazords, and the movie is ruined by two flaps of metal? Be glad that for the most part, they've taken the core of the character and translated it as best they could. If your not happy about it, go write a bad fanfic where he's forced to wear the mouth gard all the time.

I find it interesting going by the image included with this article that Ironhide looks a lot like Prime. They both have the head crest, the antennaes, helmet and now mouth..odd. Anyway yeah, the lips destroy Prime's appearance. I saw a photoshop yesterday that applied the faceplate to this image. Instantly, he looked like Optimus, and without it might as well be Ironhide or Ratchet, he didn't look like Prime anymore.

I'll still try to be open minded and actually watch the film to give it a chance, but this was the icing on the cake... my expectations are dwindling to a fraction. While it may be a great movie and make a lot of money, it's not quite going to be "Transformers".

That's a very negative attitude given that no-one has seen the completed film in motion yet.

Besides, the film mwill obviously take a lot from G1. One can argue that Armada, Energon, Cybertron, hey, even Beast Wars, took so much from G1 that they looked like G1. Transformers has never really been a particularly varied property.

As for fights amongst the fandom? I remember the alt.newsgroups and people flaming each other about Bombshell becoming Cyclonus - no, wait, Skywarp becoming Cyclonus - in the animated movie.

Though I have to say, three threads discussing Optimus Prime's mouth is just teh intarwebnetz lulz.

Yes it is so old that it came out in the l.a. times last week and it was the piece that confirmed that optimus prime has a mouth. Yep, thats how old it is.
