Busy writing the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster Transformers Movie, Roberto Orci has dropped by producer Don Murphy's message boards, and has asked fans to tell him some of their favourite Starscream lines!

It's a tricky affair. Does Roberto really mean "catch phrases" or "quotes"? Because if it's quotes, I can think of more than a few to fit the bill, but as far as a "catch phrase" goes, there's not very many TFs at all who can really claim to have one. Optimus has "Autobots, Transform, and roll out", and Megatron's known for crushing things with his bare hands, or a variant thereof.

Starscream's much like Megs in that regard, but his number one claim to fame is without a shadow of a doubt referring to himself as the Decepticons' new leader. There have been numerous occasions:

"I, Starscream, now lead! Decepticons, follow me!"

"Decepticons, feast your eyes on your new leader!"

"Well...as Megatron has...how shall we say..'departed'...I nominate myself as the NEW LEADER!"

"My fellow Decepticons...as your new leader, I..."

See where I'm going with this? If there has to be one single line SS utters that's a tribute to the old days, it has to involve the phrase "new leader". No ifs, ands or buts about it.



But if we're just talking quotes in general here, there are a few I could name:

"I WILL rule the universe, even if I'm the only one left in it!"

"What's wrong? Aren't you happy to see me?"

"Oh, how it pains me to do this!" - Such sarcasm has never been emoted by anyone, anywhere, ever. XD

"PATHETIC FOOLS! THERE'S NO ESCAPE!"

The lines that the fans voted on for OP to say ended up being mostly lame and out of place in the last movie, why would we want to contribute to that again in the second one?

My personal favorite Starscream quote is from the 1986 movie. He walks up to a gravely injured Megatron (who is laying facedown at the time)and says...

"How do you feel mighty Megatron?"

Then he kicks him.

I have several favorites.
G1 Starscreams ghost just took over Scourge and Scourge and Starscream battle over control of the body. Scourge says Give me that Weapon and Starscream says " No, go get your own gun, I'm using this one"

In the G1 Camelot episode Starscream returns from back in time and says "Did you miss me Megatron" as he runs in to his arms.

Armada Starscream and Hotshot were on the moon and just wiped out Megatron. Megatron wasn't dead of course and made a noise. Hot Shot says did you hear something and Starscream says "It's just the wind"

Starscream was always interesting and fun and entertaining in the cartoons. Wish movie Starscream was as fun.

It's hard to do, because when I think of the original character, I realize just how different the movie version was. Let's face it, the original Starscream was a witty, sarcastic backstabber with charm, who wasn't afraid to backtalk his superiors. The movie Starscream's only real resemblance is a name. He's a brutish thug. None of G-1's phrases would sound natural coming from him, so I would advise Orci to think of new dialogue to match this new interpretation instead of shoehorning bon mots into a far less charismatic character. Find phrases to fit the character that's already there, like your basic "I shall wipe out humans like the insects they are!" speeches. That, or find a good reason to completely overhaul the existing version. If writers really want to make a Starscream close to the fondly remembered version, they should focus less on lines and more on basic psychology and attitude. If Orci's reading this, I'm sure he's seeing that the written lines themselves aren't that funny. The reason why people are still entertained by them is because Starscream had a personality, an attitude that made them work. That's my two cents. One or two in-jokes ain't gonna change anything.

Expanded material accounts for a fraction of jack when it comes to the writing of the actual movies. I can guarantee you none of the elements of the character introduced in the expanded material have been or will be incorporated into the actual movies, and it's the actual movies that I'm commenting on. If I want to see a great interpretation of the movie Starscream, I shouldn't have to track down the comic, or the book, or the video game, it should be right there in the film. And as of now, we have one movie, and it's not there. Starscream never talks back to Megatron, he never plots to over throw him. You think he's better because he doesn't whine all the time or have the guts to call out Megatron to his face, but to me, that kind of behavior is the heart and soul of the original. He may as well be a totally different character, and since you like him as such, then I say fine...they should go in that direction, and write dialogue that fits a strong silent type instead of the Iago-like character that Starscream used to be. They're so different that the dialogue wouldn't seem natural, so the new Starscream should play to his strengths and not be the conniving weasel that the original was, but rather the straight-forward gorilla.
