I agree with the people who are saying that Weaving was sort of generic. Even his attitude about the whole thing seems like he's not really into it and that it's just a novelty to him. Like the behind the scenes part on the DVD that shows him doing his part as well as his "comments" from this article.

If anything I'd believe more that this is misinformation or just speculation, I doubt Hugo Weaving would be that careless to leak anything about the movie. It might even be true but "leaked" to make it seem like misinformation to cause confusion.

I wouldn't be surprised if they brought back Weaving but I'd like to think they had the perfect and forgivable opportunity to change the voice actor since the character died and is being brought back through some mecha-zombie process.

Bumblebee hardly spoke in the first one and even when he did it was like someone who had bad strep throat, they have a total chance to change that as well if they wanted.

bah...Far as I'm concerned, all the Transformers that are making the jump from the first movie to revenge should keep the VAs they had in the first film. That includes keeping Weaving as Megatron. I wouldn't have minded if it was Welker as Megatron, but I'm happy with Weaving.

i'm glad hugo weaving is back. i liked his version of megatron in the movie. And as much as i love welker's work i believe he was not the right fit for movie megs.

if you played the movie game or have seen the recent welker/megatron cameo on family guy you can hear that his voice sounds a little different maybe a little more worn out and a little too gravelly. It honestly wouldn't have felt right for the more "realistic" movie. peter cullen still sounds right for prime, yes his voice changed too, but i actually think it sounds better.

please don't take this as a knock on mr. welker. the guy is one of the best voice actors ever... i'd love for him to return to transformers in some capacity but it has to be right. maybe soundwave/ravage is that part.

I agree! I for one can't stand Welker's Megatron--too hard to understand, and that laugh is annoying. Weaving is the master of sinister inflection. Even if they alter his VOICE beyond recognition, the WAY he talks still runs chills down my spine. He was perfect in the last movie, and I can't wait to hear more of him.

In the end it's all a matter of taste. For me and many it feels right, for others Hugo feels more right. Nothing bad to it, but it's all just opinions, no one is right or wrong.

Who didnt see this one coming. Id rather have Welker helm the role but Weaving didnt do a bad job in the first one. Now Bumblebee on the other hand, for the love of god they better either get a new actor or rip his voice box out again.

Well, I am hoping that Megatron will have a bigger role in this sequal because I did think that Megs did have less to say and only to appear at the very end kinda dosnt thrill me.

As for Welker however, I still want him to come back & play Soundwave.

Interesting that he has already recorded his lines, seeing how late in post production the voice actors were used for the first movie!

I was hoping for Welker, but I suppose it makes sense to keep the same voice actor, even if he had very few lines. I never actually played the game so I don't know how good Welker's voice sounded in it. Well hopefully they'll bring him in as Soundwave.

Awesome! Hugo Weaving was a awesome Megatron. Yay!

Celebrating over.

I liked Megatron in the film. He was new and unique and did not sound like he swallowed a pile of screws and treacle. He sounded young and like a real leader.

Frank Welker is good but Hugo Weaving is way better.

I like Hugo Weaving. But the reason I say yay! is because he is a good Megatron.
I am not so prone to saying someone is good just because I like them, if they are not.

Or if they did a voice before and it is 'traditional'.

And it would be totally wrong for the brilliant Hugo Weaving to be replaced by anyone else.

People might get confused if Megatron sounded as different as Welker does, so I'd say this was a smart decision. Also, I liked Hugo's voice alright, it sounded pretty cool.

Didn't we hear that Welker was gonna be in the movie a LONG time ago? Maybe he's the fallen, or Ravage, or Soundwave.

Okay cat is out of the bag. Megatron is back ---- but you will only get to see him from the long lost past. We go way back in time as this movie explains the mythology of the Primes. He is not a tank like everyone suggests, but an alien vehicle. But sadly he does not has much screen time.

Haha... I think it's funny that they are even bothering to use a big name actor to fill the role. I like Hugo Weaving, but his voice got synthesized so much that it became unrecognizable in the last film. Also how many lines did he have?

If Megatron has a significant part in this movie and if they use a voice that sounds a little more like Hugo Weaving, then I won't think it's a waste.

What I find funny is that people are jumping all over this like Hugo Weaving just got the job over Frank Welker. Weaving was Megs in the first movie, so it should be quit obvious he would be in the second movie. It's called continuity, and it's not all that new of a concept.

I like Weaving's Megatron a lot better than Welker's. G1 Megatron always sounded weak to me, too wheezy, I'm surprised he didn't transform into an asthma inhaler. Movie Megs sounded fierce and dangerous.

Sure he deserves it. It's just that Weaving was good as Megatron in the first movie, and as I've said earlier, they should keep the VA talent they had in the first movie. I mean, you don't see them changing actors for characters like Sam and Lennox, right?

Why? Since RotF is a sequel to the '07 film, wouldn't it make sense that the characters moving from the first film to the second would be played by the same actors each time?

People keep comparing changing actors to the changing of a voice of a character that died in the first one. It's not the same situation, they could have changed the voice and it wouldn't have been that much of a deal because his internals were blown by the allspark; things happen.

So with that being said, voices can change if a character goes through a crazy enough situation, changing a character like lennox or sam would be something completely different, not the same comparison.

If Megatron didn't die in the first one, then yes I'd say that'd be weird to change his voice for no reason. JMHO

..and just for a reminder, the 80's movie had Welker as Megatron's voice, then halfway through changed to Leonard Nimoy, and then went back to Welker in the TV series that continued after the movie.
