One of those is reused art with a new setting.

It still baffles me that Two-Headed Shockwave was INTENTIONAL, and not just a quick reuse of animation models.

Also, I like how Hound apparently used to be just a thin army guy with a helmet, but someone said "that's too boring, make him fat with a beard".

Ha! I liked this too... I wondered if they had designed Hound before getting John Goodman to voice him, and then thought,"Whoa, this little guy doesn't work with John Goodman's voice."

I thought it was a pretty amazing change from the concepts to execution.

Tfw2005 also has some exclusive concept art if you guys want to check that out.

Any other sites that paramount might have gave concept art to?

I think the Hound we got is much better then in that concept especially the fact that his does not work without that beard.

I did like his performance, since he seemed to be one of the few having fun with it. I probably would have re-branded him as Kup (since it's a better match for the character) and had some lines redone, but what do I know about the labyrinthine industry of a high-profile film adaptation?

I'd be surprised if they didn't retool (again) Dispensor to make the Oreo-bot.

I kind of wonder if the one with the hailfire missile pods was supposed to be Galvatron, since they have similar heads? He'd make a pretty good abstract Armada Demolishor, though.

Hopefully not. If it is then they've drastically missed the major details of what Cyclonus looks like, which they already did with Galvatron.

If anything, he looks like Megatron on an abstract Armada Demolishor body.

Looks like you could just take any Movie voyager SS, add some cylinders and Hailfire's missile pods, take off the wings and paint the whole thing silver.

Where have you been for 7 years?
Sideswipe looks nothing like g1 sideswipe
Ironhide looks nothing like G1 ironhide
Skids
Megatron, all forms
Hound. The only thing g1 hound and movie hound have in common is green.
And the dude with the cannons for arms has a barricade face.

I've been right there the whole time, and never liked the designs. I understand artistic license, but these are supposed to be adaptations of characters we know. If the Avengers can look like the Avengers, why can't the Transformers look like the Transformers.

But really, appearance is only a superficial complaint I can level. A design change could be fine if they could make the characters their own with interesting interpretations, but they are mostly just stilted backdrops. All the names are there, they just don't mean anything.

To be frank, I'd be fine with them even referencing ARMADA Cyclonus's design, If only to know that someone recognized the history of the brand and the unique look of it's characters.

If you squint hard enough, Galvatron's helmet-thing sorta looks like an abstract version of G1 Megatron's buckethead. It's even more noticable on that Heavy Weapons guy, whoever he was supposed to be.

He does share a lot of design cues; the head, the cables, being primarily silver with blue and gold details, little to no apparent vehicle kibble (he's got guns, but he might as well not have an alternate form). Could be an early Galvatron, or a different bot that got repurposed as him, or even perhaps all the KSI bots would've been far more homogenous...

That or Starscream's weird EVA head.

It's like there's some designer who, in spite of everyone else, is trying to subtly acknowledge the classic designs of the characters and their history.

He also has movie Screamer's big gorilla gunpod arms. He might have been intended as Screamer reborn as, oh I don't know, Cyclonus or Scourge before it got scrapped.

Lockdown's renders are actually the coolest for me. He shows a surprising amount of car parts in robot mode, at least from the back view. I noticed the red taillights in his legs in the movie, but didn't see the air intakes and headlamps on his back, nor the Lamborghini logo on his robo-behind.

Cyclouns name was used to cover up Galvatron so people would not know who he is until Hasbro announced him as being part of the movie.

Of course they aren't the g1 characters. That was 1984 and the writing was extremely shaky on a lot of episodes.

But they ARE adaptations of recognizable characters that people remember from that era. People who like Transformers even passively remember what they look like. And to go forward with an adaptation without taking the source material into consideration is incredibly alienating to them. I'll say it again, the Avengers (while updated) still look like the Avengers. The Prime and Animated characters have noticeable nods to their namesakes.

Can the movies say as much?

How about people stop asking for it to be like the old version.

and let the movies be its own thing?

The movies are not an adaption of any other previous tf material so why should it be like the previous material besides some references?

Hopefully not. If it is then they've drastically missed the major details of what Cyclonus looks like, which they already did with Galvatron.

If anything, he looks like Megatron on an abstract Armada Demolishor body.

Bullcrap

Are people really so ignorant they can't see that after 7 years?

Could it be at least as competent as Prime, which was developed during the movies?

But if they can't give me that, fair enough. I'll stick with the shows, which I kind of think is the best format for the media.

They always have been they have just had a lack of focus and lines besides the first film and AOE at least for the Autobots.

And Prime can barley be called enjoyable with the lack of interesting characters and the way they waste characters like Cliffjumper, Smokescreen, Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack, Shockwave, Breakdown, Dreadwing, etc along with the repeatable and very boring relic hunts and bad fighting scenes.

When I say "not write the humans like aliens", I mean not write their interactions as such an awkward, uncomfortable mess that they seem to be written by aliens pretending to be human.

In the first three, this applied to every needlessly goofy character. In the new one, it's the awkward interactions between the main three.

As for the Transformers, I do think that this new movie was taking positive steps toward making them individuals, mostly with a streamlined design and with more conversational interplay. However, I think the villains still suffer from being to generic and throwaway, mainly because the interesting ones get killed before they can establish themselves.

So, you're saying they had focus in the first movie? Nope. They were set pieces and nothing more.

What "awkward interactions between the main three"? The only scene in AOE I'd consider even remotely awkward would be Joshua's elevator scene.

Not the cons its right there i agree with you.

I'm talking about the Autobots if you actually re watch it Ironhide and Ratchet had a lot of lines in that movie mostly in the part where they are looking for Sam's glasses.

The only Autobot lacking in movie one was Jazz and thats rather sad due to that being his only film.

The TF franchise had series that featured characters that looked and acted little to nothing like what they were in G1 after the G1 era ended and introduced the concept of "name slapping" into the brand way before the movies came into being so saying that the movies are the only series in the franchise to have done this is both unfair and incorrect. It can be argued that the Beast Era actually did this first with having characters like Rampage,Inferno, and Silverbolt be nothing like the G1 characters of the same name. There's also Armada Cyclonus,RID Scourge,Armada Blurr,Hoist,Smokescreen etc.

Why is it wrong for the movies to do the same thing then? There's no rule that the characters should be strongly be based on G1 only since G1 isn't the only TF series out there.

My theory with the Transformers Movie Universe is the same as why so many characters in the non-Marvel Studios Marvel Movie Universe are so different ... for Hasbro to retain the rights to the characters
in the way we all know and love them. Basically picture the Transformers Movie Universe like an Ultimate Marvel Universe. It's a bit of a stretch, but I can't help but think there has to be something deliberate going on to preserve the primary likeness for Hasbro and Takara Tomy.

I did like his performance, since he seemed to be one of the few having fun with it. I probably would have re-branded him as Kup (since it's a better match for the character) and had some lines redone, but what do I know about the labyrinthine industry of a high-profile film adaptation?
