That "grease" that i use absorbs instantly and isn't shiny or slippery. Just so ya know. Looks like bran new rubber once applied and it penetrates deep.
This is the stuff i use. Trust me. It's awesome. But it's tuff too find. So maybe the armor all leather stuff mentioned above might work aswell.

It's good that the hose is in good shape. I suggest keeping that rubber as supple as possible to prevent cracking. I use an organic grease that is formulated to keep rubber seals and gaskets from rotting that keeps mine from drying out and turning to dust. It works REALLY well.
