Im not a fan of kickstarters. Most of the time the figure never actually gets made because they need to purchase huge runs of 1000 or more figures from the factory and usually only get a few hundred pledges. I would rather see these guys pitch the idea to a 3rd party company that can afford the run and roll their dice. It just seems more professional instead of putting it on the fans with a sort of guilt trip to support the production run. If the idea is really that good they would surely get a 3rd party sponsor. Personally I expected actual transforming figures coming from the dream team of ex-Hasbro employees this company signed up. Ive decided to skip these pretenders and hope these guys come out with a better concept in the future. I still love the name of the company though.

I think they would rather try to have the fans fund the toys that have an investor who wants a percentage of the profits fund it. Sure they have to pay Amazon and Kickstarter, but that's still less then they would have to pay an investor.

If the Kickstarter fails, they could always used the alternate rout of selling the designs to a company, but also then the company would want input on the designs, just like Hasbro did for the, telling them to cut corners, cut paint apps, make the figure smaller, etc.

I have been thinking about these quite a bit, and I think I am skipping them too.

I like the idea, and how they are tackling pretenders, but I need to draw some lines in the sand with my collection, and this may be one of them.

I might pick up one just to see what they are like, but I doubt I'll be a completest on this set.

If it's not too much, I'd advise going in on one on the kickstarter when it happens. You might be pleasantly surprised. Then you can decide to buy or not buy more.

Still waiting to hear, but Rik did basically say he's keeping the price as low as possible. He's more interested in getting the line started than making a profit right now.

I think the 4 inch to 5 inch Kickstarter made figures went for $30-33 each. These will be bigger and have more accessories, so I'd expect them to be a bit more than that.

That's about where my head is with this.
I'll probably get a kickstarter fig, then decide from there.

But I'm at a point where I have more stuff than shelves, so I'm getting a lot pickier about what I pick up. If there is a whole line of stuff with which I don't have a connection, I'm more inclined to not even bother.

Pretenders are from after I stopped collecting TFs as a kid, so I have no nostalgia for them. I like many of the designs, especially the monster bots, hence my willingness to maybe get one or two.

Thanks! I'd throw 50 or 60 for Sunstorm/w Robot head. If this takes off and PWTT has figures in retail for around 40 bucks they could do well on this first venture. imo

I can only think of one crowd funded TF toy before, and it was that fan-made head for Universe Ultra Onslaught that made it look like Impactor or Strika.

There have been crowd-funded Transformers books like Transforming Collections, and lots crowd funded action figures that have been very successful.

whats the cape made of ? anything other than cloth ansd i don't think i'd be interested as it would take away from the posability .

The clone looks a bit static i would like to see it have a decent amount of articulation other wise it might as well be from the 80's also those shoulders look a bit daft can they be detactched?.

Play With This Too has contracted famed designer Christopher Dahlberg of Berger Inc.

Postby Scaleface » Tue Nov 11, 2014 12:06 pm

“You can play with their stuff, but you can PLAY WITH THIS TOO.”

http://playwiththistoo.com/2014/11/11/s ... ouncement/

Manchester, CT – Play With This Too, a group made from toy industry experts have sought out and contracted famed designer Christopher Dahlberg owner of Berger Inc. to produce the digital sculpts for their action figure line.

Christopher Dahlberg has been a staple of the collectible toy industry for nearly 20 years as both a sculptor and designer. A co-founder and former co-owner of the well-known group the Four Horsemen, Christopher has worked with Mattel developing toys for 14 years.

Having sculpted and designed for various brands including DC, Masters of the Universe and the Movie Masters lines. During the mid to late 90s, Christopher was a lead sculptor for McFarlane Toys and was fortunate enough to work on such brands as KISS, Movie Maniacs, the X-Files and of course Spawn.

Christopher will be taking the lead sculpting figures prior to Play With This Too’s crowd funding campaign launching in February of 2015. Once funded, Christopher and his team will work in tangent to complete all the necessary renders. The first samples of Christopher’s work will be available for public viewing and review in January.
For more information regarding and for examples of Christopher Dahlberg’s work, please visit his website at: http://www.bergerinc.biz.

In addition to Berger Inc., German native Peer Brauner will also assist in providing digital sculpts for Play With This Too. Peer will be sculpting the Tech Drones and weapons for the Play With This Too line of action figures. Peer done professional graphics design work for Bosch, Blackberry, BMW, Porsche, VW, TeleKom Varta, Philips, Sony Ericson and the list goes on! Peer has also had a hand doing pre-visualization design for some of the biggest shopping malls in Europe and Saudi Arabia including the Centro Oberhausen, the Marokko Mall and the Festival Center Dubai. Peer’s work with animation includes a Furby project for Hasbro.
