A new column in People's Daily Online discusses the way some Chinese people feel about the depiction of Shanghai in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
As most of you know by now, the first long scene in the film shows a battle in the Chinese city of Shanghai. In fact, this scene was not shot in China at all, but instead in Bethlehem, PA at the former Bethlehem Steel Plant. Originally, this scene had been billed as taking place in a "fictional Chinese city" but was changed later on.
Here is an excerpt from the article. Please note that this is only an opinion column and far from an "official" statmenet from the people of China.
Some Chinese netizens are not happy about this movie because Shanghai appears to be very shabby in the movie which they think is not a real representation of the city.
Moreover, they think bombing Shanghai is an insult to China. They think the movie intentionally tries to uglify China. It is understood that publisher may cut these scenes from the Chinese edition out of consideration for box office receipts.
Some people comment that it is still unbearable for the publisher to only promise to cut these scenes in China. If the "shabby Shanghai" in "Transformers 2" is widely seen by people all over the world, this will mean an even bigger insult to us. Therefore, those people are requiring that those scenes are not shown anywhere in the world.

In a report done by
Variety's Pamela McClintock, the one day earnings for Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is revealed.
Factoring the
$16 million that the hit sequel earned domestically, making it the largest Wednesday Midnight release ever, we find that the total one day earnings for the film put it at $60.6 million dollars, surpassing the previous record holder
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which earned $44.2 million on a Wednesday.
Revenge of the Fallen also earned an IMAX showing record of $1 milllion being shown on 169 screens.
Panela McClintock also stated that
Transformers 2, playing in more than 4,200 runs, has a strong shot at eclipsing the $152.4 million earned by “Spider-Man 2” in its first five days. That film opened on the same Wednesday in 2004.
As the records break, will keep you posted right here at Seibertron.com.

Just hours before the worldwide release of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen hit the theatres, Transformers movie scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman chatted with i09.com about certain robots being anatomically correct and returning for the 3rd film.
Although they couldn't remember the origins of Devastator's testicles. Orci thought that Bay had demanded "a big pair of testicles." But Kurtzman reminded him that it was actually co-writer Ehren Krueger's idea, when the three of them were holed up for a few months writing the script after the writers' strike. "The testicles are in the script," Kurtzman said. "Well, it's a construction machine, so you of course have wrecking balls. And Michael, immediately, of course, loved it."
The interview then goes on to cover the challenges the writers had to endure just to make the script for the second installment of the Transformers movie franchise and shut down rumors that they may not be returning for the third film. Check out the complete interview by clicking
