So, you can afford a BMW, but not $150 for Transformers?

I’m calling bullshit. Flat out.

ok, you make 65K a year starting out at Activision, and you buy a 2007 BMW 335 with a turbocharged 3-liter inline six, and pay for a Condo in Beverly Hills, then you come back and talk to me about Bullshit. I collect, because I love the hobby, not because I blow all my money on it. I want to have nice things and transformers too.

1. Your Sig is too large. You'd think Activision could afford photoshop...
2. Pics, or it never happened.
3. 65k in Cali does not afford you a condo in the hills, a BMW, nor does it grant you the ability to "Live Large."

Attention all other "Have Nots", please check in here and report on the status of your BMW.

That is all.

you guys do know your arguing over toys right? dude if you can't afford it, don't buy it. Life will go on. If you can afford to buy it, and you really want one, then sweet get yourself one. i personally don't think this figure is worth that price. I can afford it, I just don't want to buy it. I will save my money for a wal-mart Mp Starscream and a Takara Mp Skywarp. Its all about personal choice. If you need to, eat roman noodles for a while and save up and get it. (If you went collage, you know what I am talkn' about) If its gone by then, oh well get some thing else with your cash.

Run me down with your BMW, and then I’ll understand perfectly what it’s like to be a “Have Not”.

That can be arranged, what is your schedule like? :P

Ok, time for me to call bullshit.

1) If you live in California, 65k a year is like 35k a year in the midwest and 45k on the east coast. Not enough for any type of lavish lifestyle.

2) You would not be able to afford payments on a BMW like that and pay for a condo in Beverly Hills. In fact just slash the condo, 65k a year isn't enough to afford a box on Rodeo Drive. Unless you are leasing and have roommates, in which case you have been stretching the truth.

No my family owns it, and I have 2 roommates who pay rent as well as I do, and yeah pay scale out here is very different then anywhere else, but if you have good credit, and want to spend most of your money on a nice car, like so many military friends of mine, then it's certainly a reality. I love my car, and sometimes wish it were an Autobot in the Transformers mythos.

Yes they are very common, atleast here in Cali that is.

No.

You are wrong, I am right, that's all there is to it.

And for those who don't, here are the guidelines.

1. Your sig cannot be any larger than 300 x 500 pixels either horizontal or vertical. This does not mean you can have a 500 x 500 pixel sig.

2. Your sig cannot be larger than 40kb in file size. If you need help shrinking your sig, ask and someone will certainly offer to help.

I was not referring to being able to afford the BMW, which is a 3 series and inexpensive, but a condo in Beverly Hills and a Beamer. But as I see now, you were stretching the truth as I figured. Mommy and daddy pay for the car too?

And it looks like Ebay prices have stalled at around what they want for the sets over at the collector's club. So it more than likely will not go down from there, get them while you can before the club sells out and the Ebay prices jump again.

Dude you should know better then to pick an argument with a bunch of middle aged balding men who collect toys. Now me on the other hand, I have a great full head of hair.

As far as the Botcon stuff goes, counterpunch and the rest of the crew here on seibertron.com are extremely sensitive about it, so I would just leave well enough alone. I have had my share of rounds over this subject, and as far as I can tell, there is no judgment over who is in the end correct. It's just the way things are. Believe me, I would rather collect the ones I can find and afford then shell out half my weekly salary on a Botcon box set.

It's ok to have pride in the collection. i my self have the 1st run of Superman DC Direct 13 Inch action figure. It was released about 3 years ago, and is now selling for $500.00. I was very proud of it considering I bought it for like 50.00 from a comic shop. they are limited to 1500 world wide. there was a remold done later that is no where near as hard to get as that first one.

See: http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_041706b.htm
this is the hard to find one...

so you see, it's all about when you get it, and how fast you get it. Now in the case of reissues, its sometimes a better thing, but as far as exclusives go..

(Sorry Counterpunch, he's still yours to hunt, but I wanna take a few pot-shots at him too.)

hello. My name is Flashwave. And I have a confession. I don't have an income. Not yet capable of getting one.Yes I went to Botcon. I went and shared it with my dad, who helped with airfare and hotel. But souviner and such was saved for over teh year. I'm not a rich fan either.

Well it seems as with most things in this world driven by money and demand,

Yep, that's sorta how our economy works. duh!

that a simple fan who is not rich and extremely wealthy will have to pass on the Botcon exclusives.
Did you know that Ten Bucks a week from one botcn to the next is 520 bucks? Flight and hotel aside, We didn't spend that the entire weekend in Providence.

I am new to the whole system, and this is my first disappointment as a fan. I can't believe how expensive Botcon Merchandise is.

I'll give you that, since you aren't familliar wit Botcon prices. But it's hardly a dissapointment. You claim they could makeke these figures for less, but I don't think your taking into account the need to change molds.

For the price of just one of that set I could buy 4 older Transformers toys in MISB on ebay

By old, do you mean a year ago? cause anytihng later than RIDthat gets pricey. But could you get something this cool?

and be satisfied knowing their price would rise in years to come. But as for the Botcon stuff, they just look like repaints and slight remolds to me.

But so are a lot of Exclusive figures, even in other conventions. Be glad Hasbro even wants to offer these exclusives. Nothing says they have to.

If I really wanted I could buy an older one of some of the figures in loose on ebay and have a professional repaint them for less money then what I could if I bought the Botcon merchandise.

You could, but then it isn't the Botcon stuff and loses it's magic.

It's completely depressing to see what selective Capitalism versus mass consumerism can do when delegated to the transformers Brand.

Wait, wha? You make it sound like Archer and the Hasbro people are pirates, greedy little something-or-others, that they aren't.

Sorry guys, But I have to pass...But because those are just not a priority on my list.

So pass, we don't need this manual on how you hate this topic
Now if you'd have said these two things in the beginning, we wouldn't be here now.
IMO, anyone who pays that much for those repaints simply because of where they came from and such, are fools.
We don't Being from Botcon is a novelty, but these are nicce figures. The thought that hasbro actually tried to make something we wanted at all.

Supporting such an expensive and unrealistic exclusive Toyline such as that really makes me angry about collecting.

Then quit collecting. As I and several have just said, we're supporting it, because these are nice figures, that we wanted to own.

Between the expensive and over rated Botcon exclusives, the Elusive "sign over your college fund" Lucky Draw exclusives, the Scalpers who jack up the prices on ebay, bad ebay sellers who after payment recieved, never send the merchandise, greedy little comic shops, consignment hunters, and Mall dealer tables, this franchise has alot of greed and "issues" which make it very hard for a fan with little to no money to keep up, let alone stay interested without getting extremely frustrated!!

Botcon expensive, possibly. Not over rated. You don't Have to get the lucky draws. Not even in this country. Sure people jack up prices, it happens. We aren't gonna inselt them here. ANd those people that don't send items are esy to be found. If you take 5 minutes to read up on their record, you'll know whether or not to buy from them. I've not seen a comic shop sell much of anything, gredy or otherwise. Mine sold somer nice qual G1s for decent prices. Never met a dealer table in a mall, so I don't know what you mean. This franchise is NOT greedy. The fandom may be, but not the franchise. NAd FYI, I have an allowance, to spend on more than TFs. I'm having no problem keeping up. If you are, buy a golf cart.

SO either join the club and get the set at roughly $150.00 USD or be a non member and pay roughly $180.00 USD? What a freaking expensive set for 2 plastic toys who would have retailed for at the most $25.00 in stores!
Your contradicting yourself. If these figs sold in stores, one person would get them, or they would be sold en masse and we have no reason for them to be exclusives.

Defending them by saying they need this amount of money to continue to bring exclusives to the Botcon is simply not true,
/:) let me see YOUR degree in that.

its a demand thing and as far as I can tell these Botcon repaints are in demand, production costs can't be so high that these figures should cost $60.00 each to produce or even with a profit gain of $20.00 they don't cost $40.00 to produce.
Maybe this will fit through your skull. They made what, 1400 Trions? That's abnout the same number of Vector Primes 1 walmart stores gets in a month. Maybe even less than a month. Multiply that by the several thousand Walmarts in the States, add all the OTHER stores selling Vector Prime in the States, and then you'll se ethat we're right and it does cost thst much. And I haven't even left our borders. There's still half of North America, and the rest of world to figure in.

Rule of thumb, the more you produce the cheaper the item becomes, and because they under produced, which still doesn't cost them that much to manufacture, I'm sure of it, they can charge extremely ludicrous amounts of money to purchase them?? WTF!!!

See previous

It's Insane!

So are yo, and most of the fandom, but at your level

Lets put this into perspective shall we, a MP-03 Star Scream from Takara retails on ebay on average at about $75.00 to $100.00,
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... category0=
while the Wal-mart "exclusive" repaint will retail somewhere around $50.00, which is more sought after then the Takara release, it's a masterpiece repaint and not some voyager class repaint???

Dim-Wit. That figure is being sold to Walmarts in 50 states. that's an average of 1000/2000 stores, in fifty states, for three months or more. Using a mold that's already been made.

I know I'm new and all to this fandom, but come on!! does anyone else think that these sets are just way too expensive?

Very, Very Well Said!

I bet if BotCon, and the TF Club, would cut their prices on exclusives more people would join.

I know I would, but deluxe figures ranging upwards of $60 is just to much for me, and believe me, I have shelled out plenty of times for TFs into the hundreds.

But still, a limited slightly altered version of something I can find on clearance isn't enough to get me reaching for my wallet. Maybe if they started a figure from scratch, I could see it being worth the while, but for now I would rather just take my chances with imports and retail and keep my roof over my head.

Then again, to each their own...

Oh and welcome aboard!

I will say one thing though, in respect to defending the "insanity" plea over the Botcon exclusives... for the Botcon Box set it went on ebay and sold for like 600.00 plus, during the Botcon. My Superman figure took 3 Years to appreciate to 500.00 and its a widely known property, even more so then transformers. The production rate was similar, so there is a certain amount of insanity that comes to those who purchase those exclusive sets.

As for me, well I'm an owner of a small title insurance closing company in Virginia, I proudly drive a 2002 Dodge Neon, and make around 50K a year. I have 2 children and pay through the nose for child support. So I have to also pay rent to my girlfriend to help out with her bills, so it leaves me very little spending money to afford exclusives.

Plus I also collect DC comics & figures, and have very little display and storage, so for me, I will buy Masterpieces and rare runs that I can find at bargain prices. That's also a reason why I can't ever make it to the Botcons is because I have to concentrate on my fledgling company. I doubt I will ever get a vacation... Anyways, If I was richer I would definitely buy a Beamer and not figures, but for now I collect what I like and thats that. But I won't be buying those Botocn sets anytime soon, I don't see the point.

But as the man said, to each his own.

It seems he has provided adequate evidence as to his vehicle.

While, in theory, he could have taken any picture of a BMW from the Internet and posted it as his own, I really doubt he would go to such lengths.

Yes, Botcon exclusives are overpriced. Don't buy them.

Okay I think some folks have some things confused about the cost of the Botcon stuff when its released and then when its resold.

When the set was announced we knew what it was going to be and the price was $279. Expensive yes but that was what the club could sell the set at to cover the high costs and make a profit as well. They also made the most this year compared to any other year. Previous years they never sold out so they weren't sure they would ever. Biggest reason they don't make a large run is they can't afford to sit on the sets if they don't sell. There was no conspiracy to drive up demand or price they just didn't expect this set to be as popular as it was among adult collectors.

In 2005 the souvie sets were a LE of 400, now compare that to 2007 we had 1400. That means everyone that wanted a set that attended the con could get one. I just wish they could have taken the remainder and sold them though the club to make sure the club was getting the money instead of a scalper ending up with a dozen and selling them at the much higher price that people are willing to pay on ebay.

Better the club does the more we get and we are seeing larger runs because more folks are looking at Botcon and the club.

I can't afford much either but I save where I can to buy the figures I want rather than stalking some internet forum and whining about it. I got the Astrotrain the club made because I like the figure. Bought Airrazor because I liked the figure. I bought the Iacon package because I know I wanted those figures and didn't want to pay more later after the con.

2007 was an oddity for the sell out and it was due to a popular toyline among collectors getting some repaints that weren't going to be released by Hasbro.

I bet you anything Hasbro saw the club sell out the Botcon sets a month before the con and realized that the Classics line really is popular among adult collectors. That is why we are seeing the line return in 2008 with some new designs.

I'm happy with Botcon and the Club bringing new figures each year. I just wish the members could add more to the club and the site since well its ours.

Aside from all of that you just have to remember they are just **** toys.

Suck up. Do not fear that which is mortal and in the end fallable.it's like befriending a pitbull, he may be nice to you for a time, but eventually he can and will turn on you. From what I've seen on these threads. "Not nice, good" :P

You call me a suck-up for merely agreeing with someone who did not agree with you? For shame. Debate can be fun, but you lose when you resort to name calling to defend yourself. That is just one step above  .

Please don't presume to judge me. You don't know me well enought to do that.

Counterpunch is a good guy and we tend to be like-minded on many issues. I even met him ever so briefly at Botcon this year. Besides that, he writes entertaining posts. He is having fun with you, that's all. That being said, I feel no need to suck up to him or anyone here.

As you probably have seen by now, you have stepped into a sensitive issue - one that was going on for months before you joined this site. Your ignorance may be excusable, but a poor attitude here is not. This is generally a friendly forum, although b.s. is not usually tolerated. Hence the flaming responses you have received - most of which I still agree with.

As for your response to me, I don't fear mere mortals. According to Seibertron.com, I am a Godmaster. I shoot fireballs out of my eyes and lighting bolts out of my arse just to see mere mortals run for cover.

I don't have a pit bull, but all the ones I have met have been very sweet. I do have a goofy German Shepard and a deranged Maltese. Do they count?

Meh. I'd rather have the SPringer and Huffer set.

But then, I'd forego (spelling?) every Botcon exlusive for a chance at a decent priced Ironhide and Ratchet.

I, too, would like a 2005 Botcon Ratchet. I have Ironhide, and here is a way for you to get one for almost free, although it takes some initial investment.

Join the club. Then buy a boxed Descent Into Evil set plus a loose set ($279 + $179). Once you get them, keep the Ironhide from the boxed set. Sell everything else individually, includng the box. You should be able to get at least:
$175 for the other Ironhide (x 1)
$75 each for Deathsaurus (x2)
$40 each for Chromia (x 2)
$25 for Fallback and the black airplane (named ???) (x 2 of each, so 4 altogether)
$20 each for the two insecticon guys
$35 for the box (1)

That adds up to $580.00 and those were conservative selling prices. Of course eBay fees will chip away at that, but you can make up for that with a handling charge to cover auction fees. The key thing here is to list them seperately to improve your margin.

Now $580 less the amount you paid (not including tax and shipping) still leaves you with $122 to cover the club membership and something nice for your girlfriend/wife/etc...

You see, most people can buy Botcon sets if they just shop (and sell) smarter. I paid for my Botcon trip this year by selling off extra figs. You can do it too.

Counterpunch this is the second time this week that I'm making one of these posts in response to your wit, but that just made my day.

Back on topic, since FunPub order the exclusives straight from Takara rather than going through Hasbro does A3 get the plastic pieces of the GF Vector Prime or the hard rubber of the Cybertron version? Mine still hasn't arrived.

The sword is a similar material to the Hasbro versions.
