Alt. Seekers - opinions wanted for Starscream

Postby clay » Sun Nov 12, 2006 10:55 pm

First off, the idea of butchering Silverstreak's head and using the Suburu totally and shamelessly ripped off from TFMaster. But it's a great idea, gall dang it, and I want me some road-seekers...

Anyway, Starscream's somewhat done:

Image

Question is: how do I get something resembling the original color scheme onto the Suburu?

I originally painted the forearms completely blue like the original, but decided that it was too overwhelming. Now, being grey with blue stripes, it looks too busy. Maybe if I painted the legs and forearms blue, and dropped the red entirely it would still look like Starscream, but not be hideous... like Starscream?

I've left the red piece behind the head untouched intentionally, so there will be a small amount of red on him regardless.

Thoughts? The more I think about it, the more I like Starscream without any large amounts of red.

Skywarp and Thundercracker will be much easier since they only use two dominant, non-contrasting colors.

Hmm... i've always liked using the sub. as a street seeker, but i kind of feel that if you're going to go with only one detailing color, i'd go with red. I cite cybertron starscream as an example of going with just silver and red, and still keeping the screamer vibe, which i think i only get from your SS so far because i know thats who its supposed to be. I like where its head alot though, especially the idea of making him less garish.

Utterly brilliant!

You're right - the red/black/grey on the Cybertron version is quintessential Starscream without being ugly.

Of course, what I've already painted was red to begin with, so I'm not going to double back on that... I think I'll paint the legs and forearms black with red highlights, and use a bit of red on the stomach/undercarriage as well.

Thanks!

Your work looks good!

This is a good idea making the Alts into Seekers! I'm glad I did it!

I'm not the first to think of the Imprezas as Seekers, but I made 7 of them. :D

(I would like to note that I hadn't seen anyone's Seekers until after I made mine.)

That looks really good; the limited pallette works well. Might I recommend a couple of go-faster stripes along the side of the car? It could add a little more colour to the vehicle mode, as well as evoking the stripes on Starscream's wings.

Good work, you only had to paint some parts in red for turn "Silversplotch" into Starscream.

Those are fantastic!

I've got a couple of Ricochets laying around that I'm going to work into Skywarp and Thundercracker, though those should take increasing levels of work. I've got the head modified for Skywarp, but I probably won't get around to painting anything until tomorrow afternoon.

I've alerted my friends in different areas to look for more Ricochets, so we'll see how many more I can do before all is said and done.

Oh, and what did you use for the null-rays?

:)

. . . and thanks for the kind words! :)
I think I'm one of the few guys here who has done a ton of work, but hasn't submitted galleries to Devy. It's a bit of a long story with Devy and myself (mostly that I'm pretty particular how my work is presented and that I still would like to do more photo editing before I have galleries of my customs made). I do have my work on my Photobucket account *click my sig*

Have fun with your customs!

Nice work man!

Thanks!

Question: what is a good technique to paint simple stripes across multiple car body pieces? I assume taping everything off is a start, but how do you keep the pieces in line? Most molds aren't a problem, but the Suburu is an ornery thing...

Pinstripes should be done last of all, after the model has been fully assembled and transformed into car mode.

IMO the Streak head mold is too rounded I think a Windcharger Head (Sans the Visor) looks better as Starscream

So are you completely against the idea of the belly (which is now red) being gold to represent the canopy?
till all are one.

Once you 've done the seekers you can turn a load of Meisters into the Aerialbots although Fireflight should probably be a Subaru and Silverbolt a different mould

Somewhat. I really chose the LOC version to pool colors from moreso than the G1 version. That's where the red on the belly comes from.

Only problem with that is... well, there's really no problem with that, except that I'm trying to bring up my Decepticon Alts to the same number as Autobots :)

oops i meant Air Raid not Fire flight i was thinking the flap that folds behind Meisters head would be just like there nose cones sticking up from G1.

hmmm more Cons , if your in aircraft mode what about Dreadwind and Dark Wing or maybe Triggerhappy.

or maybe some more inner Pretneder Robots.

Meister as Carnivac or some other Mayhems to keep the bots on there toes

Finished Skywarp.

Still need to two-tone the stripes on Screamer and start on Thundercracker. Well, at least one's finished...
