The show found a way to remain PC and safe for kids by SUGAR COATING just enough to remain appealing for the older fans.
Batman TAS is considered to be the best rendition of the character outside of the comics by most Bat fans. There are some who think the show was better then the comics that inspired them.
Sadly the same can not be said about the 90's X-men cartoon.
I agree! The 90's Batman: The Animated Series was a phenomenal series! It was safe for most kids, yet maintained that "Dark Knight" feel to it...not to mention writing in some of the greatest non-comic Batman characters EVER (Harley Quinn being the number one stand-out of all)!
When the 90's X-Men cartoon debuted, I wasn't expecting much in the first place due to PC and all that American "do it for the kiddies" sensibilities that reared their annoying little heads in that decade....and I got exactly what I expected. There was ZERO of the comic "darkness" in it, and it only dealt with a select few characters. But, as I have said to others on shows they didn't like....I watched it a couple times, for judgement purposes....and never watched it again. When it comes to the X-Men, it is the comic or it is nothing for me.
