Oh?? How so? I never saw the beast wars show so Im not familar with the story. Can you tell me a bit about it please? Im always interisted in transformer stories Im unfamiliar with. :-B

beast wars megatron and the predacons found the ark on prehistoric earth and blew off optimus primes head while the autobots and decepticons were still in stasis lock... if it werent for a fast repair job by the maximals, the autobots would never have awakened allowing the decepticons to win the great war and exterminate all remaining autobots.thus alttering history as we know it.

Yes and no. It's characters are trapped in the past before the events of G1, but they're from the future; far after the events of G1.

I'm pretty convinced the Hot Rod "Cavalier" and Rodimus "Protector" functions are a kind of history buff's joke.

The Cavaliers were a group of royalists during the English Revolution. They lost the war, and the monarchy was momentarily suspended during a period called the Interregnum ("between kings"). The victors at first established a republic...until Oliver Cromwell, an anti-monarchist general, seized power and had himself declared...Lord Protector.

I swear there are even documents calling him Oliverus Prime -- Oliver the First (I remember freaking out when I saw it), but I'll be darned if I can remember what it was.

It makes sense that the creative team would have been reading up on histories of civil wars, since that's the mythology they were going for, and since it worked so well for Star Wars.

The characters that partake in the Beast Wars are from the future, well after g1 ended.

But they traveled back in time, to a period on Earth before humans fully evolved but after the Autobots asnd Dfecepticons crashed on Earth.

Both Beast Wars Megatron and Optimus Primal took the "sparks" of G1 Megs and Prime into their own bodies, for different reasons.

I think G1 is awesome, iirc, it was part of a revolution in toys connected to cartoon characters and story telling. Partially started in ‘77 from Star Wars and their merchandising, and then made possible in the early 80s when the U.S. changed laws about cartoons and toy merchandise, basically allowing Transformers (a thirty minute advertisement targeted to children) to come about. But as for this discussion, let’s remember that is was simply an advertisement for the toys. People worked hard and made some awesome characters, stories, and art. But to a certain extent they didn’t care and some things didn’t matter, meaning continuity errors. There was no great effort to make sure everything was consistent and made sense, or that different mediums matched. So, the tech bios, to cartoons, to comics didn’t have to match. The history, back story, and ideas didn’t have to be accurate. Standards for accuracy were not what they are today, there was no internet, the consumer got what they got, Hasbro made money or not, and that was the end of it.

I am all for straightening things out, trying to figure out what they meant or how things should have been, and or, how things are now. My main point was don’t try to figure out why things are unclear or contradict themselves when the creators didn’t bother to have all things match. If someone wants we could start a new thread in the Cartoons/Comics forum about an aspect of the hierarchy.

I agree with you, TK415. I think too many collectors spend too much time and effort arguing about the fiction, or criticizing toys for not matching the fiction, when the fact is the toys came first and the fiction was created to serve the toys, not the other way around.
