This post will be a bit out of the ordinary.

I'm thankful to belong to a story board which allows people from great age ranges to write and contribute to the game. Some of us grew up with G1 back in the 80s. Others got into with the more recent Prime series. Then there are others who caught something in between. I've been a part of this board off\on since 2003. I've played a variety of characters and I do lean towards certain types as most of us do. I even survived the Great Wipe where the entire site lost tons of posts due to something. Sid and others probably have a few more details or better memories.

The biggest draw of this board is we are a community. We try our best to help each other out when one of us struggles with a character app or a character post. The mods try their best to come up with great story arcs and more than willing to listen\consider other ideas from the players. Not all of the ideas get implemented for whatever the reason but maybe parts of the ideas will see daylight eventually.

Thanks again to all who have put time and effort into making this board the best we can make it. For those who are new, I hope you stick around to add your voice to the game. For those of us who been around the block a few Cybertronian cycles, there is still plenty to write and do.

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I'm quite intrigued by this RPG. It looks very interesting and I plan on joining it. I did have a few questions though, and I apologise in advance if my English isn't that great! (It's my second language)

So from what I've gathered, this is a unique version of G1, with some elements from other continuities, yes? Would it be fine if I haven't actually ever watched the G1 cartoon or the original G1 comics? I've read a handful of IDW comics and I've watched Animated, Prime, the movies and a lot on TF Wiki. Do I need to know anything in particular or is it okay if I just know my information about G1 from the wiki?

Also, I've read that it would be good practice for a newbie like me to use a Canon character. I was looking through the available list and from there I found that Broadside would be a really neat, interesting character to play as. Would that be fine for me or should I pick someone more "normal" (AKA, not a triple changer and stuff)?

I do have some experience with text based RPing so that shouldn't be too much of an issue for me. My only biggest concern is where I should start off and what the exact story so far has been, just so I have some sense of context.

Again, I apologise if this wasn't the easiest thing to read!

We do use a decent amount of IDW stuff but not everything. Many of us did grow up watching the G1 cartoon and reading the old Marvel TF comics. Best way to get a feel for where we are is to read some of the threads. Technology wise we only have Pretenders (Thunderwing only) and three combiners (Monstructor, Comptron, and Devestator). Phase sixers are around but all are currently being played and would need major mod approval. As for a triple changer, those would usually be denied to a new player. Best way is to join an existing group like one of the special teams or maybe something like the Seekers or the Insecticons. We don't use Prime or Animated much to my knowledge but could be wrong. The Bayverse is definitely one thing we stay away from as well as the Unicron trilogy (Armada, Energon, and Cybertron). If you have any other questions, post them here or the questions thread or PM one of the mods or active members.

Welcome, AFTRHR! ;)^

(Adding to what Sumo said)

Team members are also good for new players. My first character was Bonecrusher from the Constructicons. There are characters from other teams like that who are available right now.

Also minibots are good as well on the Autobot side. And pretty much any car 'Bot who isn't too powerful or super integrated into the plot like Hot Rod or Prowl.

For a new player, it's best to pick a character who is fun to play and put into the situations, but isn't currently a huge main story element or very powerful/large.

I just dumped a few characters that could be suitable if you wish to take a lookie. Specifically Highbrow, Triggerhappy, And Slugslinger. The latter two are ones I wrote the profiles for and started off playing, so if you chose one of those I am open (with possibly some time delays) to answer any questions about those characters in this game.

Also Sumo mentioned that we stay away from the Unicron Trilogy and Movie stuff. That is sort of true, but not set in stone. If it is a character exclusive to one of those fictions, it is acceptable to use those and modify them to fit the g1 sort of game style, and as long as you remove parts that don't fit our story. (e.g. I own a fanmade "Clocker" originally from Transformers Cybertron.)
Any characters from other fictions than G1 or IDW are usually classified as fanmades and not canon.

And in the case of movie characters, if someone wanted to apply for let's say Barricade, but not as his G1 racer self and as his bad cop self, it could still work as long as you, again, highly modify him to fit the G1 style. (e.g. removing any associations with Fenzy because that is Soundwave's minion.)
Also fitting elements from his G1 self in is also a good idea. But again, if it is not straight G1 it would most likely be considered a fanmade I would guess. But then again, Lockdown and Airachnid are canon characters, so it's up in the air really, and based on what the mods decide.

If you haven't read all the rules, that would be the first thing to do. There are some fanmades which are technically canon only because those fanmades have been around in one version or another on this board for years. We have players who been apart of this story board for 15 if not 20 years so again many of us can answer some questions but mods are the only ones who can give official response. We will also be willing to help with making apps. If you go for a canon and a pre-approved app is already in the file, use that one and do a sample post. We will also take canons which have yet to be made. If you want a good mix of fanmade and canon, find a canon which has little to no real background. Biggest thing about sample posts though is no referencing other players' characters unless given permission.

Thank you both very much!

Regarding teams, Strafe from the Technobots looked interesting enough to play. Hoist was another one that I saw who was interesting.

Silly, Triggerhappy is open, yes? If Strafe or Hoist aren't up, I might go for him, he's insane and I love that in a character.

Speaking of other "canon" characters, would new IDW characters be allowed as a canon/fan made mix? I really like Alpha Bravo and I think that he'd make for a pretty fun character to play, and he sorta fits the criteria - not too big and not too central to the plot either. As for him being an Aerialbot, I was thinking he might just be a normal guy who isn't an Aerialbot (because in the comics he's Slingshot's replacement).

Anyhow, thank you once again, and I will try to read through some of the recent threads to get an idea of what this is like!

Heyo and welcome.

You can apply for up to three characters when you first start playing. Then, if you can keep up with those for awhile and you want more, you can add more to your roster.

Strafe, Hoist and Triggerhappy would all be fine picks to get started with.

New IDW characters are also possible. We have quite a few such characters wandering around the various settings. Your normal guy angle for Alpha Bravo could work nicely. The Autobots can use all the aerial help they can get :-P

Several of those characters have pre-approved profiles so, as was mentioned, all you would need to do for those is copy the profile into the application and then add the sample post. If you run into any mental snags in the app process, feel free to message myself or any of the other two mods directly.

One slight hiccup with Strafe and the Technobots which I"m surprised Sid didn't mention. They are currently in their gestalt form called Logicor. It is basically the Computron 1.0 and the Technobots aren't in real control due to how they were forced into their gestalt mode. As such, Logicor is being controlled by Sid for story purposes. I'm hoping in the very near future the Technobots will be split apart by choice or force so I can play Nosecone once again. How much control the Technobots will have in their combining is not determine quite yet since they are technically prisoners of the Cons.

Ah okay then, I think I'll hold off on Strafe in the meanwhile. I want to just get used to the RP before I deal with combiners of any sort, haha.

I think I'll make an application for Alpha Bravo and also take up Hoist, and play with those two. Would I need to make a sample post for both or just one of them?

Edit: For AB, do I have to keep the 70 point limit or should I go with what I feel like would be appropriate for him?

Both.

Eventually once we know what your writing abilities are, roughly, the need for sample posts will largely come to an end.

Unless a major character comes open and you happen to want them. Then everyone who wants to take a crack at it will be expected to do one. But that's just a hypothetical example to show you one of the rare instances where a veteran player of the game needs to still provide a sample post. In most cases, the process streamlines over time once we can trust what a person is likely to do with a given character.

Also, Triggerhappy last I checked was being looked into by another player called DeadRatchet. Though, I have not heard anything lately regarding his decisions on that. If it makes you comfortable, you can try sending him a private message asking about Triggerhappy. Though in this game how interested someone is is sometimes judged by how fast they want to kick out an app for them (though not always; that varies in many ways), talking to the other people is generally smiled upon as being good for building a respectable reputation with other players as you would know.

But yeah, if you wanna also pick up Triggerhappy, I'm not stopping you. Just giving you a bit of a heads up if you wanna do some negotiation. ;)^

AB and Hoist it is then. If someone else is looking into Triggerhappy, I won't interfere, because if they come back to wanting him I don't want to upset them!

I wrote the basics for AB down, would this work? I used Vortex, Spinister and Blades as a bit of reference for the helicopter part.

Alpha Bravo

Allegiance: Autobot
Function: Aerial Support
Alternate Modes: Eurocopter AS565 Panther
Weapons: Tracker Missiles, Chain Laser Rifle, Gatling Cannon
Special Abilities: Flight in Robot Mode
Height: 28ft/ 8.23m
Quote: “Let's do this.”

Strength: 6
Intelligence: 7
Dexterity: 9
Speed: 7
Endurance: 6
Courage: 9
Firepower: 8
Accuracy: 8
Melee: 6
Tech Skill: 6
Charisma: 7
Rank: (maybe a 6?)

Profile: Alpha Bravo is an eager, willing 'bot of good spark, and the way he works showcases that mentality. Always up for helping out the cause, he is diligent in his work to the cause of the Autobots. Despite this, he is naive and deeply insecure and feels as if his efforts are never enough, and always wishes that he could do better. He is prone to depression if he fails at a task, which can place a heavy burden him and leave him feeling useless. Nevertheless, he is always a bot of action, and will take the first step into battle if it means protecting and serving the 'bots around him. He will always try and prove his worth, but his duty comes before that, no matter the cost.

Abilities: In Helicopter mode, Alpha Bravo is very maneuverable and can fly at 450 mph for roughly 1,200 miles. He is armed with tracker missiles, which can lock onto the very spark of a target. The missiles can be used in both helicopter and robot modes. Additionally, he is armed with a chain laser rifle in robot mode, which can fire several shots rapidly, overwhelming any target that isn't directly hit by it. Sometimes (though not always) he wields an optional double barreled gatling cannon, which allows for heavy fire, though it requires Alpha Bravo to be relatively stationary due to the recoil. He can mount it on the underside when he is in helicopter mode. He is also one of the few Autobots who can fly in robot mode.

Weaknesses: Alpha Bravo is prone to recklessness due to his eagerness to prove himself. This can lead him to situations where he may be overwhelmed.

Hello and welcome.

Your profile looks good. In order to get it approved by the mods, you can put it in the new character application thread and include a sample post. There, they can give some guidance on it, if needed.

Hello all, Chibi here. I am SUPER hyped for this RP, I will tell you that now. I've been reading the latest posts. The Oahu mission seems like a lot of fun. I've also been picking at profiles to read them and have enjoyed seeing a diversity of writing styles and somewhat customized templates. I am applying for the seeker Sunstorm. I have his app completed but I'm not ready to post it yet. This is because I'm waiting for verification of something I'm trying to do. Other than that I might make minor edits and I have planned an awesome RP sample. I'm 30 and I have been RPing since 2001, so that's almost 17 years of experience RPing. So excited....listening to music to inspire scenes. Anyways gtg back to rl. Cya later! :D

Hey, I was thinking of picking up Broadside. Just want to know if I can right now, or if I need to wait a little more. I really want to play as him because he’s my favourite wrecker/triple changer, but I just want to make some confirmations if I can or cannot. If I can't, that's alright, I'll wait a little bit.

Hi, I was wondering when making a custom bot, is it possible to apply extra weaknesses for a couple extra points for distribution? Of course the same stat maximum will be applied(Only one stat with 9, Minimum 3, etc). Thanks!

Nah, we keep the fanmade limit for new players at 70, regardless of what other adjustments are made. More fleshed out weaknesses simply increases the likelihood that they will be accepted.

I'd like to apply for Headstrong. He's currently an NPC held by Cryhavok (I think) who told me he wouldn't mind my applying for the Predacon. I've held more than three characters in the past on this RPG at one point, but I thought it'd be a good idea to ask anyhow.

Just wanted the mods' opinion on it, what do you think of Transformers Universe characters? I think they'd make for some really interesting designs, and they're obscure enough to allow for some creativity. Of course, most of the "video-gamey" things would need to be removed (AKA all the strange abilities and S-techs and such). I was hoping to apply for Overclock, he's some kind of cool spy with gadgets and I think I could hopefully make him into a more believable, G1-esque character. Maybe some others as well, but just wanted to know for Overclock in particular.

I've invested a lot of time into Sunstorm, but because of the fact I'm not likely going to be allowed to play him (being new and all) atm, and because I've been so busy with family and such because of the hurricanes, I'm going to set aside my Sunstorm project for the time being and pick up either a custom or perhaps one of the pre-mades or other characters. Any suggestions? Was kind of hoping for a seeker that isn't a conehead but any other thing may do as well.

You could actually try Darkwing or Dreadwind if you're feeling adventurous outside of standard seekers. Slipstream IS available, but I wouldn't recommend her for a few reasons. You are specifically looking for seekers/flying Cons yes?
