Merely on tentacular awesomeness alone, Cthulhu. I mean, he has *minions*. And tentacles. Did I mention the tentacles? Borderline hentai, them things.

to be fair spawn has some crazy magic powers and his suit and maybe some new stuff (I also havent read any spawn comics in 10 years). He has taken on, and killed, Malebolgia ruler of the 8th layer of hell. Aparantly spawn is now a ruler of hell.

any way its a lot less one sided than i originally thought, but he still has a limited power source (?)

But the H.P. Lovecraft horror has to take the cake. Much worse. I think Cthulhu is a god, much higher league than a devil.

Its like major league and minor league.

Still say Cthulhu. spawn actually gets a few shots in, but then gets tentacle raped.

Oh, excellent. Now I feel old AND out of touch. I lost interest in Spawn after the horror that was the movie. Who knew so much happened?

Spawn limited by human conceptions of good/evil and hell: Cthulhu isn't. In a sense, Spawn might have less free will. A ruler in hell has a moral code he must follow: Cthulhu, an alien god, is outside that system altogether.

Still say Cthulhu. spawn actually gets a few shots in, but then gets tentacle raped.

I think that when he killed Malbolgia and/or remade the world, Spawn lost his power limit....uh, limit. Could be wrong there though.
Beyond all of that even, there's now a new Spawn, and Al is dead-dead. The 'new' (only cause it's like ten issues deep by now) arc is called Endgame and there's a new Spawn and it's developing so slowly that it makes me cry.

Anyhow, Spawn (old Al Simmons, I assume) ain't no push over, in terms of powers and stuff. But realistically, Cthulu is an entity of unimaginable power and scope, so much so that the thorough contemplation of him makes mortal men go insane. While Al has seen some seriously messed up ****, hell is nothing compared to the realms of the Great Old Ones.
In my opinion, IF this fight were even remotely close, it would only be because Cthulu was toying with Spawn. Normally, I'm all Spawn wins everything, but this time, there's no contest.

I thought we stopped doing Spawn vs. matches after the storyline where Spawn wiped out God, the Devil, and both of their armies easily, in turn stopping Armageddon.

"We" meaning, everyone. Not long ago, a bunch of Spawn vs. threads popped up, and pretty much every one ended with "Spawn killed God, Satan, and their armies in one go." We had the same problems with Goku and Superman, who are also stupidly powerful.

Yes, but this is because the Spawn saga happens in a distorted Christian-based universe, where the God idea is NOT the top of the powerfull creatures. In Lovecraft's mytology, Cthulhu is the greatest of the Elder Things... the ones who invented the cosmic framework. This "cosmic framework" is the same than Spawn's "Mother", God & Satan creator.

...What? While there may be entities in Spawn more powerful than God, this is still God we're talking about here. He created humanity just to one-up Satan. The fighting between the two kicked off Armageddon.

No, Cthulhu is one of the Great Old Ones, who didn't invent in cosmic framework. That was the Outer Gods, who are much more powerful than the Great Old Ones.
