Cybertron Hot Rod **Picture Heavy**

Motto: "One shall stand...One shall fall."
Last year some time I had the idea that I was going to turn Cybertron Hot Shot into Hot Rod. I started a WIP thread, but as I got into the disassembly I realized that what I thought would be a simple little repaint was turning into a bigger project. I was also getting pretty frustrated with how my red paint was turning out over the blue plastic. I eventually shelved the project until I saw Cybertron Excellion and some of the other repainted versions of him on various kitbashing forums. It sparked my interest again and when I went back to work on him, the whole process went much smoother and I learned a lot as well. I know it's a repaint that's been done to death, and I'm a year late getting on the boat, but here is my vison of Cybertron Hot Rod:

For his gun I simpley glued the rocket into place, drilled a hole in the barrel, and cut the spare back wings and glued them into place so his gun would resemble his G1 rifle.

Image

A couple of the small details I had fun creating were a custom Illinois license plate and givinig him actual rear tail lights.

Image

Leg stickers that I created and printed using a variation of the G1 design.

Image

It's kind of hard to tell, but the seat detail is painted silver.

Image

I also put a Autobot emblem on the steering wheel and custom printed gauges on his dashboard. If you look, the space is actually molded above the steering wheel for something like this.

Image

More gauges, and I thought it might be fun to have the flat screen on his dash showing Kickback about to be run over from the movie!

Image

...and of course the leftovers.

This is my favorite conversion yet! I love how you didn't just do a pallet swap and you did cartoon accurate coloring. My favorite part are the stickers though. They add new life and detail to where there was none before, most notably the dashboard.

I know it's just a repaint, but it's very well done.

This is an excellent job as practically a straight repaint with no real mods to the robot (aside from the aded pipes). I think the only thing that would make him better would be to have actually copied the hood paint job on his chest so he actually has the yellow flames on orange background there as well. I love the gun mod and the dash details. Well done.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments guys :D

Funny thing about the flames on the hood in alt mode, it's actually a sticker I printed out.

I hear you Tramp, I wanted to try to get the flames on the hood to match his chest also, but his chest has so many angles it makes it nearly impossible (for me at least) to apply a sticker and have it look halfway decent. I also wanted to try to incorporate where a set of headlights would be in the mold on his chest, and if I had painted the background orange I felt there would be no distinction between the chest and the headlights, so it's more of a compromise. That part more than anything had me thinking day and night at times about a way to make it work.

I'm not a fan of that mold, but that looks pretty good. I like that you actaully painted the wings. I nver thought the clear wings looked good, especially not for Hot Rod.

Wow. That is just awesome!

Now I feel like I only did half a job on my Excellion-to-Hot Rod custom. >_>

I'm tempted to go back and paint up some of those little details you did, as well as print up some stickers for the dashboard and stuff, as well as stealing your exhaust-pipe idea.. did you have to mod them at all, or did they work straight from Clocker? (it -is- Clocker, right? I can never remember...)

Just plain awesome, dude! :D

as much as I hate that mold, you make him look sweet.-

Just noiticed maybe its me, but are all the hotshot/super hotshot molds crappy? All of them have goofy arms or legs, and basically the same transformation.?

So, don?t apply a sticker, mask off the area you don?t want painted and paint the flames on. That?s what I did. I also painted the obliques red , which is what the original was.

I think most of the Hotshot molds sucked, but I loved this mold of him. Even when it's not compared to other Hotshots, I think it looks awesome. I liked the Cybertron Defense Hotshot a lot too, but I hated that it had to be Hotshot.

OMG....

This is the best custom C. Hot Rod ever

I planed on doing the Pipes and making Arcee out of Swerve afterwards but the dash details blew me away on this...

Wow. It looks like like you've taken every cool idea that everyone's ever incorporated into their Hot Rods, then thrown in a couple of dozen of your own to make a near-perfect custom! The gun and dash detail are a stroke of genius.

It's so beautifull...
Definitely a damn sight better the the original hotrod toy which has about as much articulation as a single block of lego.
