Did Power Core Combiners surprise anyone else?
- Weapon: Fusion Cannon
I've acquired a few with the sales going on and all, and was amazed at how nice some of them are. (Some are complete ****, but what are you gonna do?) I was just picking them up for the nice minicon partners (Bomb-Burst, Waterlog and Pinpoint are WIN!!).
I am very impressed by Steamhammer and Sledge. Thought I would hate Sledge, but he has become a favorite. I dislike Salvage and Grimstone is horrid. If I hadn't gotten the wonderful Undertow as a bonus figure with him, I'd be really pissed about him.
Currently have purchased Leadfoot, Huffer, Smolder, Steamhammer, Grimstone, Sledge, Undertow, Salvage, Bombshock, Skyburst and Over-Run/Spastic(sealed) (who I am willing to trade straight up for Heavytread).
Which PCC figures are you guys taking a liking to after the sales and all?

I got Smolder because the package got mangled somehow and he was reduced to about £3.00. I picked up Leadfoot just for the Mini-con and found a way to turn him into a sort of Classics Slapdash. If Hasbro were smart enough to release those Mini-cons as a box-set they'd get more of my money for sure.

Is Hasbro really that smart? there decisions for the most part are related entirely to creaming as much money as possible whilst over packaging all of there toys so much they are impossible for any child to open without destroying the box.
I actually bought some in a bulk lot on EBay and was very surprised to discover they all have two heads? whats that about?
I like the idea but this could have been designed a little better perhaps also i resent the Drone idea it makes no sense.
I had leadfoot, slege and icepick.

Didn't you know? Every PCC figure, even the ones with Mini-Cons, has a robot mode and a torso mode for the drones to attach to. Didn't the blue connectors tip you off to that?

So no?
By the way I did realise today about the PCC being able to do that I must say its a nice idea reminds me of pretenders from the 80s.
The names are also very good as well and fit the figures perfectly.

Let me put it this way. The Mini-Cons are gang-molded with their partners, meaning when the Mini-Con is made, parts of the other figure are too. That make it rather costly to make packs with other Mini-Cons, as parts of the "bulk" need to be discarded.
TakaraTomy has no problem with that though, look at the Targetmaster Microns

Forgive me. I live in a town in decline which happens to home Hasbro's distribution centre. They've provided work for me but the distribution is actually awful. Sorry if I sound bitter but there it is, I mean nobody any disrespect.

PCC's .... oh how I loathe thee.
Actually I really just loathe the drones and the "combining" gimmick. The Commander figures are pretty damn awesome, and then there's the minicons (some are hit and miss, but that's usual for minicons).
The concept of the drones is all well and good, but unfortunately when it comes to combining, something got lost somewhere.

Them not having robot modes? Yeah, that's pretty much every hater's beef with the line.

No, it was more the mechanics of them. Some of them just wouldn't lock into position and I ended up having to do a lot of fiddling to get them to lock into place, and even then you often had to display them against a wall to stop them from falling over.
I could live without the robot modes, but the mechanics really let them down.

I had no problems with the Drones after pushing them all the way in (till you can't see the connector), except with Bombshock's Tank Drone disconnecting whenever he'd fall. It's true some need some preparation done beforehand, like disconnecting the hand on the Missile Carrier and moving the plow on the Plow.

As much as it may sound like living in the past, having the hands and feet as separate parts that need to be attached really worked.

For interchangeable limbs it was a necessity.

Re: Did Power Core Combiners surprise anyone else?
I liked most of the PCCs I got, but the later ones were the best, Steamhammer and Heavytread in particular. Sledge, Icepick, Crankcase, and Bombshock are great, too. Searchlight's the only stinker.
The Drones were a lot more fun than I thought. Having their own alt modes gives them a sense of individuality, even though they have no bot modes and may be considered just "equipment." Kinda wish they didn't use the spring gimmick, and worked in articulation somehow.
The Minicons weren't that thrilling to me, largely since their alt modes weren't very distinct.
All in all, though, I enjoyed the line. But it's a crime they never made a train team.

I really like them, but my collection is going through something of a molt these days and I just don;t see how they fit in totally.
The minicons, while a pretty neat idea and something of a continuation of the energon weapon concept, didn't actually transform into anything. I don't need to be told they turned into weapons or some type of armor piece, I understand that. What I mean is that they don't have any discernable mode other than folded up translucent plastic.
Drones I was fine with, spring loaded combination I was fine with. The commander figures minus Huffer were awesome. I liked that they have no attached fiction, which allowed me to sort of invent my own or wedge them in with the Classics if I so desired, and I liked the ones everyone seems to hate more than the rest. Like Mudslinger and Double Clutch are two of my favorites, if not my two favorites.

Steamhammer, Heavytread and Bombshock are my favorites out of the lot there, and the best part is Heavytread's packaged minicon makes a good chest shield for Steamhammer. The one downside to it all now is Heavytread is sitting in a cabinet until those blasted third-party PCC parts get released.

I haven't fiddled with any of them yet, but I'm getting Grimstone for x-mas... though I will admit I wanted him more because it's a dino set. Lol. In general the look of the PCC's is unappealing to me but as my sister put it, "who doesn't like dinosaurs?" And with the Black Friday deals it was cheap enough to warrant picking up (and losing it to my parents clutches shortly after getting home).
If it turns out to be crummy as a combined entity, well, at least I have a bunch of little mini robot dinos. lol. TFA Grimmy will have some friends to boss around.

Thats why i got him just because hes a dinobiner and looked nothing like the rest so if he was the only one i got its unique.
My only real problem was with the arms 1. no elbows 2. both hands/claws look like they should have had a gripping/bite action feature, over all hes not bad to look at unlike some of the others just stumpy imo
I think the loss of appeal came from standing him next to G1 combiners and fansproject superion he just looked out of shape and place.

I've got all but Overrun and Salvage of the Powercore line and Darkstream, Steelshot and Windburn, ordered them a few days ago and they were dispatched yesterday, I don't think I'll be able to get Overrun and Salvage due to them being US only with no UK release intended and no UK retailers - offline and online - stocking them.
I like the line, it's not perfect but it has it's little gems like Heavytread, Undertow, Huffer, Smolder, Stakeout, Crankcase, the Constructicons set, the Dinobot set, Skyhammer, Icepick, Searchlight and Leadfoot.
I've got Darkstream, Steelshot and Windburn on the way via the mail and they should arrive within the next several days or so, hopefully before Christmas.
The weaker ones are perhaps the Arielbots, Doubleclutch who tends to fall apart all too easily, one of Bombshock's drones doesn't hold too well to a connecter port and Mudslinger doesn't hold together too well.
Quality control would have made a huge difference with the 5-packs.

I ended up enjoying them as fun Transformers toys that should have been done during the Energon line.
As modern toys, they're a real embarrassment. I'm not sure what the company thought they were doing.
If I can ignore that and frame them in the realm of Energon toys, they're great.
