DMK is Okay by me

Postby skywarp-2 » Sun Aug 21, 2011 11:48 pm

I haven't been here for awhile.. needless to say, since I had to, and I mean, I had to sell off my collection.. I pretty much steered clear of the whole Transformers thing entirely..

But, and I hope my sentiments are mutual..

DOTM is the best, and arguably my fav all time Transformers movie ever!

The story, CGI, and all around badassness is there in droves..

so as far as my collecting habits goes, I haven't the space to get a collection going, as my living circumstances, and "market availability" have now changed. relationships aside..

I am completely enamored with the whole DMK concept. Specifically DMK-01 Optimus Prime!
Now I had been a staunch "transform only" collector, with the occasional bouts into the Mega SCF line..

but I have to say, this DMK thing is off the chain! seriously, it is like prime stepped out of the movie and into almost a leader class size! sure he can't transform, but the pros of his detailed and screen accurate form, just say to me, so what!

I have seen the DMK bumblebee, and it is very nicely done as well. I have seen youtube reviews, and it seems as if the model is more toy then model in some instances, and in others where the reviewer clearly needed to add glue. I have also checked out the online references to "finger fixes" which is simple enough..

I used to build gundams, and I have a great custom painter who can make this thing sing..

I haven't ordered one yet..I understand the first batch went like hotcakes at a runaway fat farm convention (no offense to the big people, I loves me some hotcakes too)..so I will wait till then.. you never know with Takara Tomy..

2nd releases may include updated sculpts, or revised parts that address design flaws, or include his plasma canon weapon.. either way, I will not be paying what it is selling for right now. However, my goal is to get one, assemble and have it professionally painted, and secured via glue, and other means to strengthen it as much as possible (mainly through glue) and display his awesomeness in full fashion. I have even considered getting a custom box made for him, ala masterpiece takaratomy style for display behind him and storage for transport.

I do have questions about the line however, and I am hoping someone has some clues or rumors to satisfy my curiosity..

1. Will the line continue in the future or is DMK-01 Optimus, and DMK-02 Bumblebee the only offering we are going to see?
2. Are there any specific guidelines as to what Takara tomy will release next, based on character popularity, sales, or movie appearances?
3. Bumblebee seems to be in scale, can we assume the other autobots will be as well? example: ironhide is slightly larger then bumblebee, and so too is ratchet, while jetfire is quite huge..

I am also wondering if they are going to release another prime but with a weapons platform, with detachable weapons to add to your prime figure, cause that would be cool..

my wishlist for this line is pretty extensive..

the movie accuracy is dead on, and is pretty much what I desire these days..them being fully pose-able pseudo toys I would only get certain ones..not to mention the cost factor. Though a part of me wishes these were sturdy and not buildable, rather full fledged pose-able figures ala sideshow, or Hot Toys..painted to perfection and full color display box included.. but if this is as far as I will ever get to movie accurate..

I am sold on it.

My wish list:

DMK-03 ROTF Megatron-tank treads and all
DMK-04 DOTM Star Scream
DMK-05 DOTM Megatron
DMK-06 TM Blackout
DMK-07 DOTM Shockwave
DMK-08 DOTM Sentinel Prime
DMK-09 TM - DOTM Cons Set (Ravage and Lazerbeak)
DMK-10 ROTF The Fallen

and so on..and so on.. But my all time favorite megs is the 2nd version..Megatron as a triple changer, with tank treads, and his plasma canon on one arm, complete with built in sword.. can't beat that with a puny little shotgun blaster...though, the caped hooded version was pretty cool..

anyhow, I would love to hear the rest of you comment on this subject.. I know most of you will only want to go the fully transformable route, and that is fine. But this is where I am going to center my collecting on.. and I may not even get all the ones on my wishlist even if they are created..but after what I have been through in my life recently.. please just respect that sometimes, it is about accuracy over transformation and space..at least for me anyhow.. (in this time of my life)

For a detailed image of it, just incase you live under a rock..

most of you already know of it..but after the movie, and after seeing this in all it's glory.. I just had to come back to this property..

"just when I think I am out, they pull me back in!" :)

Cheers!

One thing I did want to mention, I have been reading reviews online about the building of the frame under his armor, and there are some who complain that once the kit is finished, it really doesn't show the wires and junk under..

my question for that is, can the chest armor be readily removed to show case the internal parts underneath?

The thinking on that for me is that he could look as if he were in mid-repair, or just to showcase how well he is detailed underneath.. I would love to have half his armor off just for display. It is such a nice piece, and would seem worth it to be able to do so..

I suppose the japanese like to do that in many cases I have seen their robot kits "naked" with armor parts and guns laid out beneath their feet.. that is also a kinda cool way to display...

also here is a great rendition of a final painted DMK-02 Bumblebee done by the awesome Leon Ku!

I sure hope we get a Megatron and Star Scream soon!
