FansProject keeps making figures the rest of you guys like, I get to have Erica Campbell, and I get to keep my nuts. It's a win win situation.
Anyways, enough about my collection of acorns, I think some were speculating that FansProject would have a big display at TFCon... Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like TFCon and FP have parted ways after the Powered/D.I.A fiasco. So that gives another fiasco... when will we see more Protector? Are FP waiting till Classics Rodimus hits $100 on Ebay?
FP isn't well known for having rapid releases, in fact no third party is. While FP does have surprises with them, I don't see that Protector will be released until the later end of the year or even next year. With Bruticus upgrades coming out next month, and Defender being released the past month, I feel that those two may have been used to fund Protector.
I'm a little disappointed that TFCon won't be the venue, I'm also glad I don't have to give an arm and a leg to get Classics Rodimus.

Just a nut.
Well, I don't know why people didn't pick up Classics Rodimus in the first place. He was the FIRST Classics fig I got. So I'm just waiting, biding my time...
It's kind of weird that FP doesn't even update their own site, they just leak the images to BBTS and TFsource. Maybe they're trying to lay low. Maybe that's the reason for not showing up at TFCon. Maybe we'll still get Protector this year. Maybe. It's only April, I can't imagine they'd do nothing for the rest of the year.

They won't be at TF con? Too bad. They're nice guys. Although I can sorta see the whole Dia Commander thing souring relations a bit.
I got both Classics and Henkei Hot Rod when he came out, so I'm eagerly awaiting their Protector set as well.

I bought Classics Rodimus first time I saw him on the shelf at Target, but right after the Crossfire sets were announced, I picked up another loose one on ebay for less than 20 shipping. I put the reprolabels on my first one, and the second is wrapped up waiting for Protector.

I'm still wondering what the Protector upgrade will do to classics Hot Rod.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

All I think we've even seen of the protector so far is little more than a few colored sketches and unpainted plastic vehicle mode pics.
I'm actually kind of dubious about that add on since, like the city commander, it's snap on armor. Don't get me wrong, I love the add on armor for Magnus himself since it fits the character... Rodimus on the other hand never had to do anything quite like that, he just got bigger and lost his balls. Plus he turns into a winnebago, which I used to think was cool until I realized exactly what it was.
Then again, I suppose his back end becoming armor is better than it being just a gun platform. Whatever the case I'm still on the fence, leaning between getting said upgrade when it comes out or just holding on and pretending Energon Rodimus is like the 'prime' version while the classics one is Hot Rod.

lol, are you the new Wheelie fan around here?
I wonder if the reason they're not showing Defender is that they're having trouble either getting the parts to attach in robot mode, or figuring out what to do with the leftover trailer bits. As cool as CC's BFG was, it was kind of a cop-out in terms of dealing with leftover parts.

QFT. My CC's BFG is still sitting in it's box, it just looks a bit goofy to me, and is my least favorite part of the whole thing.

There's not 'much' physical difference between Hot Rod and Rodimus in robot mode, or at least what I can see that can be done with an add-on set.

Indeed.. At first I didn't even know what that peice was for..I just leave it off to the side. It can be cool since it does have to different "modes".. I have seen some people display it on CC's back..I tried this but it wouldn't saty in place...

Re: fansprojects?
I display the BFG because it does look pretty cool to me, but it's a little crazy because he can't even hold it up with his weak arm joints. And he looks a little ridiculously over-armed with that, the missile launchers, AND the white gun.
The concept image showed him with added armor pretty much everywhere - head, chest, shoulders, forearms, waist, and even boots that made him quite a bit taller. So there are a lot of potential parts, but still not enough to make a whole trailer out of.

No, just been on a rhyming binge lately, so I decided to be annoying.
kirbenvost wrote:it's a little crazy because he can't even hold it up with his weak arm joints.
On that note, I found at one point that first run classics Optimus Prime actually COULD hold up the BFG on his own in either mode without aid. So surprised was I that I went ahead and took his arms apart to see what was that allowed him to do that. Regretfully though, all I found was a powdery residue, and in my disgust I cleaned it all away... bad idea, cuz after putting it back together and trying again it no longer worked.
kirbenvost wrote:And he looks a little ridiculously over-armed with that, the missile launchers, AND the white gun.
And the 2 blasters the robot within already had. I actually hate that people couldn't be satisfied with the armor as it was. A BFG and the other weapons aren't enough, no we have to have a Magnus rifle and missile launchers. I don't care how oversized and ridiculous the thing looks, it's a frigin' BFG! Magnus needs no more weapons!

In fairness, the missile launchers were less about weapons and more about the overall look. I ratehr like the way the missile launchers harken back to G1.
I also kinda liked the hammer the iGear guys made (I'm an Animated fan), but it's way too expencive for what it is.

Yep, it's all about the G1 homage. It's awesome, if a little cluttered.

Homages are okay, but given the look and feel of classics/universe to update G1 without directly replicating it I don't see the necessity of the weapon update on top of the already well armed robot and add on armor. The wind vein weapon looks well enough as Magnus's rifle and there are missile ports sculpted in to the folded up BFG. I think that fills his quota of G1 homaging well enough.
You're entitled to your own opinions though, but I don't have to agree with them.
