First repaint and first post. Opinions please

Postby God Sixshot » Mon Nov 02, 2009 6:31 am

Hello everybody. I've just joined the site after lurking for some time. Having seen the quality of the repaints in this forum I decided to try one of my own. I decided on a ROTF Sideswipe using gen 1 red as main body colour. Some of the ideas for detailing I have taken from the sideswipe which CREFIGZ produced a while ago. I really liked what he had done and decided to incorporate some of it into my own. I say this cos I want to make sure kudos goes where its due.Im not nickin ideas, but using stuff i find interesting till ive got my own flow and style going. I hope no one takes offence to this or if it is frowned upon. If so, im sorry, i didnt realise.I also decided to add some battle damage and scratches to paint work to make him look like he had been put through some heavy action. I hope eventually to have honed my techniques enough to sell some on ebay. I would very much appreciate any input on what you think, especially constructive critisism. If ya think its s*%t thats fine, but please explain why. It will all help me improve. Also, the photos have shown up some paint rub off i didnt realize had happened! oh well...never mind. Thanks a lot guys.

You have my eyes!

I do the same thing, looks great to me, then take the photos and i'll be damn, paint rubbing! (Or I just missed a few spots)

You just gotta watch how thick you lay it on, and i've found where there are areas where rubbing will occur a bit of light sanding before painting doesn't hurt.

That's good! Nice first attempt for sure!

Some suggestions:
paint the inside of the hood/bonnet a much darker colour to the back kibble is less noticable
add some red to the legs to give an impression that car parts are distributed over more of the body
paint some dust on the wheels or paint them matte black so they don't look like plastic.

Just ideas for you to consider - it looks good as is!

Thanx for the input Mykltron. Both replies so far have helped me with the kind of input I need! I was thinking of adding more red to the legs as you said, but at the time wasn't sure if it would look too much. Good point about the inner bonnet and the tyres also. Glad ya liked is for a first attempt as well. Thanx

Hehe! most of it is battle damage, and to be honest, looking at the photos again, since resizing for upload, the paint rub actually hardly shows at all. Its there though..taunting me.

Dude, I don't even see any problems with what you've done. Most of the time, others don't realize the faults that we ourselves see. Good job mate, fine looking repaint.

Thanks Trans-Fanatic. Glad ya liked it. On reviewing the pics again, the rub I mentioned is there, but really is barely visible. All the scuffs and scratches in paint work which clearly show are, in fact meant to be there for effect. Im not trying to say that this is what you beleived I meant by the rubbing, Im just clarifying. Again thank you. All inpit is greatly appreciated. :D

He makes a decent impression but looks like an ROTF Swerve with added silver. Good outlook though he needs a pistol or something. All my repaints look like s**t compared to this.

I think this is a really great first attempt at repainting a figure. The above suggestion about painting the legs with red accents is a good idea too so that it looks like some of the car parts are distributed through the entire figure.

Either way you slice it, this looks good!
