That sounds right and would be around the time of their typical fall toy reset period. Now, with that said, I will be shocked to see this in stores and would assume it to be an online-only item like the Coneheads (sure, there are very isolated reports of the Coneheads in stores but that's likely returns or just a stray misdirected case or pallet.)

I know we are getting off topic, but I am curious. Are all Bayformer products bad? And does everyone who likes any of them have poor taste? Because here are a few that I wish everyone would hate so I could buy them for 5-10$ a piece:

DOTM Leader Sentinel Prime
ROTF Leader Optimus Prime and all his other incarnations which are more expensive than the next (check out what people are paying for the latest one: http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK12084&mode=retail)
AOE Scorn
HFTD Starscream
HFTD Terradive
ROTF Bludgeon
ROTF Skystalker
ROTF Mindwipe
ROTF Leader Megatron
Movie Leader Brawl
ROTF Battle Blade Optimus Prime
HA Jazz
HA Barricade
HA Soundwave
AOE Soundwave
HFTD Highbrow

If anyone who wants these or owns any of these has poor taste, than you end up in the minority by quite a bit. You would also be missing out from some of the most interesting TF toys ever made. If you have any of these and want to get rid of them or if you could convince a buddy of yours who has them to get rid of them, please send me a PM.

Target's also supposed to have the Blaster and Perceptor set right? I wonder if they'll be coming out around the same time.

There is something I dont get here. Earlier this year, Blackarachnia was announced for the Takara Legends line as a retool of the Animated Blackarachnia mold. That scared me because that sealed the temporary fate that Hasbro wouldnt be designing a new figure for her (as part of the 20th anniversary for instance). But most people were ok, and instead quite extatic about this release.

The dinobots are being released now as retooled versions of previously released molds (yes a new head is considered a retool) and it seems to be the reverse reaction where most are unhappy. So I wonder why it was ok for Takara to do so with Blackarachnia but terrible for Hasbro to do it with the Dinobots?

I believe it was all expectations and hope. We've always kept it in the back of our minds that a new Blackarachnia could be a retool of a good figure. In that aspect we were correct.
But the Dinobots steered us kind of in the wrong direction. Looking at the Generations Platinum Series, they've all been G1 reissues of up to now (well, all used G1 molds). So naturally, any release with all 5 Dinobots, in a reissue-like line, with the original molds supposedly lost, would create a lot of expectations... Only to have them dashed with the worst-case scenario. Cue the fan rage! Bring your torches and pitchforks!

In this case, it's better to expect the worst more, than hope for the best.

Blackaracnia doesn't bother me that much as its a really good repaint of an already acceptable Blackaracnia figure. I know that AOE and the movieverse has thier fans, but to me, they represent some of the worst parts of the franchise. The movie Dinobots in particular are (again, to me) horrible, horrible figures. To dress them up in the facade of beloved, and true, G1 Dinobots is....... I hate this term, I really do, but, well, I can't think of a better one for me feelings.

It's a slap in the face to the fans.

In this case, it's better to expect the worst more, than hope for the best.
In addition to expecting the G1 molds, Blackarachnia was more accepted than these Dinobots likely for all or most of the following reasons:
  • BA is a character we haven't gotten a figure of in a long time while the Dinobots are something that have been reinvented time and again over the past few years,
  • The AOE Dinobot molds have had a great abundance of releases within just the previous year, making these be yet another rendition of those same molds that many folks have already gotten plenty of before now.
  • Just last year did we already get G1-based redecos of these molds via SDCC and Amazon, as well as from Takara for just Grimlock and Slug, so these ones are second (or even third) try at the G1 deco homage for these molds.
  • BA was remolded from a mold that some feel has an aesthetic that allows it to be slotted into a typical CHUG collection much easier than molds that have a Movieverse aesthetic.
  • Blakarachnia has a lot more retooled parts on her than just a new headsculpt, meaning that more effort was put into making her look less like the Animated toy and more like the BW character model, whereas these Dinobots seem to only have new heads and no other new parts, making them seem like less effort was put into making them look unique.
  • A lot of folks just arbitrarily dislike Movieverse molds in general.

Yeah, and its not really related to any of this.

Also, while I do understand that people may not like movie molds, I really find that Snarl's transformation to be a close update to G1. And you get a very similar result too, with the tail opening in the back, the spinal column looming over his robot back, his legs made up of the front area of the stegasaurus. I highly doubt people would call that a movie design if ever it was released initially under the generations line as opposed to the movie line (especially in this deco).

I think they could have gone the heavy remold route for this set. Meaning, not just changing the head, but changing all the "squeletal" panels for more classic ones. Keep the same bot mode, the same dino mode, the same transfomation, but change the head of the bots and the overall look.

Still, even with these extreme retools, the TF fanboys-Bay-haters "true fans" would have been STILL crying their eyes out while pouring gazoline on them in the middle of the street.

What wj88 said. Most if not all Platinums were G1 figs. Trypticon, Seekers, 3xchangers, Insecticons and Blaster/Perceptor. With the exception of the YotH Laser Convoy mold.

So it does feel like a downer when they didn't put up the original guys.

Btw, as I too am a "bit averse" to the Movie aesthetic, were the bas molds of the AOE dinobots any good?

So it does feel like a downer when they didn't put up the original guys.

Btw, as I too am a "bit averse" to the Movie aesthetic, were the bas molds of the AOE dinobots any good?

With the expeption of one or two, most AOE Dino molds got great reviews.

I have all of them and appart the blue dino, I love them all.

If, for some reason, you didnt bought any of the AOE Dino molds, this set will be a great way for you to get them. Sure, the knight theme will be kinda lost with the new heads, but they will still be completely amazing. Missing Slash is no biggie because he's the only bad dino. However, it's too bad Scorn is not there. He's pretty expensive too:

Nevertheless, if you don't have any of the AOE dinos, you cannot pass this set up.
