Or, they could just straight up come out with it and say "you know what? We're 500 short but we love our fans and we'll make it anyway!" Would that make them look ballsy or ridiculous?
Honestly, I'd love if the REAL objective was 7000 and the 8K mark was just an overinflated number to give a feel of urgency. Unicron would most likely be made then.
However if that were the case, this would send the message for any future Haslab projects that the announced target is not real. Thus causing even more inflated numbers and/or less people backing.
So in truth, they should stick it to 8K. Not 7999. 8000. But let's be honest. If the numbers are that close at the end, I'm pretty sure Mr Hasbro will open his wallet and order some for himself.

Depends on how much profit margins they are making off of Haslab, and how badly they need and/or want it to continue.
Fans do not figure into the equation.

Perhaps NYCC might offer the same numbers if there's something more shown off about it there.

I still think the biggest flaw in Hasbro's plan is announcing so many exclusives and high priced items all at once. Seekers, Reflectors, MPs, cassettes, Studio Devestator, Pirranacon, Jetfire, Omega Supreme ... there's just so much all catering to the same sort of fans (except, maybe, Studio Devestator although in a different time I'd be very into that). I think it'd have done better in a time where there was a TF movie out and there wasn't as much catering to the CHUG crowd.

I’ve gotta agree it’s all super awesome stuff but it’s all at once and not cheap.
I’m curious if placing Unicron to a window with fewer high priced items would have made this play out differently. I mean logic dictates it would have. Gah it’s all super cool stuff though. How the hell am I complaining about too much cool stuff

No it's not. Considering how much is involved in this lump of plastic it really is justifiable.
Where they failed money wise was expecting cash up front with short notice.

Highly debatable, or maybe same term being used for different meanings. I see nothing about this figure that is worth $600 dollars, but others do. So, is it worth it or not? Depends on the individual consumer in question.

I think you are onto something. I see the price as correct based on previous toys and their prices, but at the same time, too high for me personally.
If we use the titans at $160 retail as a baseline, then really, the amount of additional material and additional functions/details and a much more complex transformation does really translate/scale upwards where $600 does seem to be about right.
At the same time, for me personally, $600 on a single figure that I likely wouldn't play with nearly as much as the titans I have or the more expensive combiners is just too much. I love the design and am glad Hasbro is trying to do something this big for collectors, but it just isn't right for me with price being the main factor.

It drives a point home: none of you are going to lose $600.
Just my take, I do not presume to speak for CP.
