Help: A Wash Gone Wrong

Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
I have a request, being the newcomer to repainting as I am.

I was trying to give PRiD Thundertron a black wash, but it went a bit too thick, and he is now very very very very very murky and stoney rather than white with black highlights.

Any tips as to how I could clean him up? Or should I just get another one and try again? :-(

My friend using DETTOL on his 2nd hand Citadel miniatures. Just remember that stuff will take ALL the paint from your toy. ALL of it.

Friendly on the plastics Gamesworkshop use, so it might be ok on TFs

What did you use for a wash? if its "just" ink, then a paper towel with isopropyl alcohol should clean him up. if your using a diluted enamel paint then you're gonna be in trouble. You can try either Easy Lift Off (Hobby shops) or thinner from walmart, working in small sections very quickly. Like DEITTOL, anything that is strong enough to pull enamels is gonna be strong enough to pull the factory print paint, and may be strong enough to start eating plastic. So don't let it sit. When you're done, be sure he gets a thorough wash in soap and water.

Personally, unless Thunders is getting scarce for you, there's no harm in reying to wash the wash. The worst thing that you can do is screw the toy up worse, so I say give it a try in salvage, and if it works, great. If not, at least you tried. And maybe, a stripped Thundertron will give you an idea for something else?

I kinda like him. He has a smoked look, which may not be the look you wanted but with a little building you could give him a nice "just walked out of a flaming building full of dead Autobots" look.

Why? It looks pretty good to me. ;)

Well, like Flashwave said above, if you use acrylics, it's pretty easy to clean with a damped towel/cloth. If enamel, that will be a lot of work without damaging the original paint or even plastic.

First, I think it looks pretty darn good like that. Just my $.02...

Removing the paint depends on what kind of paint it is. Have you thought about just doing some drybrushing over top of it? You could probably get it to look a little less dirty by doing a heavy drybrush with some really light gray then top that off with moderate drybrushing with pure white. Maybe???
