Horton Hears A Who?

Postby Keeperofthespark » Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:53 pm

Alright, alright. An immature question here since you know, it's a kids film and not the average R rated PG-13 rated stuff usually talked around here for the case of movies but at heart I'm a big kid so I wanted to ask if anyone seen this movie? I didn't see it today because I saw Doomsday( which was pretty good actually) and wnated to munch on the junk food at the theater( which isn't cheap by the way). The film looks cute to say the least and superior to the other two Dr. Sues adaptations, them being The Grinch( which went halfway for me) and the unbearable Cat in the Hat. This is probably so since it is done by different people this time around( the people who brought us Ice Age). Again looks like a decent family film, any good?

Since i LOVED the book as a kid I actaully do want to see this. I haven't yet though...

I'm still getting used to the fact that the 1986 movie takes place 3 years in the past now.

It looks cute, but does Horton's voice suit him?

I've always loved Doctor Seuss, so I really wann see this. And I think Steve Carell and Jim Carrey are geniuses, it does look funny.

Weapon: Venom Blaster
The movie was quite good. All the addtitions were in keeping with the spirit of the original book. The voice acting was superb. The animation was excellent.

The title should be Horton can kiss my ass. Because yet again they take a great book from my childhood and screw it up by adding things that were never in the original story. A great example of this is when same people who did The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe took it on themselves to destroy Bridge to Terabithia by taking what was a great book and turning it into a lord of the rings knockoff.

I have not read the book, but I really did enjoy the movie, much more so than the Grinch or Cat in the Hat.

Animation is fluent, and consistent, barring a few purposeful changes in style. Seriously you'll fall deep into escapism in this film, the digital world they have created is just that good.
Lip syncing is above par, and the little things like; hair, eye movements, reactionary motions are all very very good.

Jim Carrey is great as the voice is never "Mask Carrey" or "Ventura Carrey". Carrey makes Horton a bit of a nutter, but it fits the character and the dialogue, without ever being over the top. Carrell does no wrong either, a solid and well delivered performance. Oh and Vlad is brilliant, just trust me.

Honestly I struggle to remember the last film I enjoyed this much, it may be short at only 85 or so minutes, but it is damn great, the animation is beautiful, voice actors perfectly cast, script tight and true to the general quirkiness of Seuss, with even his morals making it through unscathed.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Weapon: Double-Barreled Plasma Shell Shotgun
I saw it with my girlfriend last weekend and we both really enjoyed it. It doesn't bother me that a lot of it wasn't in the book. I mean how else would you turn a short kid's book into a feature film? Oh, and Carol Burnett did an excellent job. I hated that kangaroo!!
