My mom actually turned away from Christianity because she didn't want ANYTHING to do with Falwell.

be that as it may, comments are to be kept in a civil manner, in essence no swearing. If you want to curse the man by all means. He, like his bedbuddy Pat Robertson have both seriously damaged the American society to the point that we may be forced to our own rebellion against the Failed Generation. And to say that sort of stuff is your right protected by the amendment he used to expand his empire but also attempted to quell. Ironic really. But swearing isn't something that can be condoned.

As a proud nonbeliever, I can't say that I'm said to see him go. But I had always felt bad for the truly good Christians in this world, having to be affiliated with that spiritual hack.

Same goes for Islam. I go to University with alot of muslims, and they're some of the nicest most polite people on campus, but a couple of crazy, murderous lunatics overseas and suddenly everyone thinks they're all suicide bombers.

Seriously though, I'm not really happy he died. Not for any 'humane' reasons, but simply because guys like him are like a Hydra. One dies, two more take his place. It's actually quite depressing.

Yeah it's like that where I attend classes for my job in Dearborn, MI, which has an over 50% Arab population. Most of the Arabs I've met there are honest, happy, hardworking people who appreciate the freedom they have acquired by coming here.

Yet, every once in a while I meet one who is a completely self-absorbed, religious prick who only seems to be here to create tension. People like this haven't the foggiest idea how they reflect on their culture.

Kind of like with my nontheism, most people assume that I'm out to get "In God We Trust" taken off our money. When, in reality, I couldn't care less.

Good riddance. Now if only Tim LeHaye would join him...

I find it ironic that most who scream at the top of their lungs that Falwell was such a hateful person are hateful about him in even death. Falwell taught the morals of the Bible, that homosexuality is wrong, God loves everyone, there will be a judgement, etc.

And what "relegious terrorism" are you all refering to? Did he say to kill anyone? Did he even tell someone to TP another's house as a prank?

Surely, there must be MOUNTAINS of quotes and evidence that you base your righteous indignation upon.

The irony that everyone claims the ability of true righteous indignation, while none of us are even close to being righteous.

And using the word atheist with a pejorative denotation isn't the same type of irony?

Hate to break it to you, but preaching the Bible does not absolve him of the damage that he has done to our culture. I know alot of good Christians, and I know alot of bad ones. Not only was he one of the bad ones, but one of the worst. I'm willing to concede certain things, if there were ever any evidence of him actually acting like a Christian, rather than exploiting the ignorance of those who took him seriously.

Preaching against homosexuality is not only an opinion, which is not backed up by any scientifc or empirical evidence, but it is a waste of time. The world has more important problems than a couple of guys going to bed together.

These things tend to happen when you spend your life pointing the finger at others, claiming that you have a direct correspondence with God itself, and kicking people when they are down just so you can raise your ratings. So, you'll have to excuse my lack of sympathy.

This is what I would call ironic:

Liberty Student Arrested With Homemade Bombs

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Campbell County authorities said a Liberty University student is in custody after they found homemade bombs in the trunk of his car.

Maj. Steve Hutcherson said 19-year-old Mark David Uhl was arrested Monday night on charges of manufacturing an explosive device.

Hutcherson said Uhl had told a family member he had made explosive devices and that he planned to attend Tuesday's funeral of the Rev. Jerry Falwell.

Hutcherson said authorities did not know what Uhl's plans were.

In a news release, Sheriff Terry Gaddy said that at this time it is not believed that these devices were going to be used to interrupt the funeral services.

The release said there are indications that others were involved in the manufacturing of the devices. Authorities are still investigating.

Uhl is being held in Campbell County Adult Detention Center without bond.
