The Masterpiece Star Scream problem...

As recently stated on another TF forum...
Starscream sold miserably and was highly crticized for a reason. For all the people that tried to justify the realistic colors they gave him, it's simply not what most people expected nor wanted from a Masterpiece version. Whether some people like the colors or not, he simply doesn't look like Starscream - he looks like an Alternator version of the character in the sense that he's modeled after a real life jet and colored as such. Add to that, he's basically the size of an Alternator as well, and a far cry from the size/stature/durability presented by MP-01 and since followed-up by MP-05.
I personally think if Starscream was sold under the Alternator/Binaltech moniker instead, it would have been a larger success and embraced by fans & collectors for the realistic alt mode & colors since that line established itself as a re-thinking of G1 characters in "real" forms. But as a Masterpiece, they should have stuck with the formula they created with MP-01 (and now MP-05) by keeping him G1 color accurate, regardless if the jet mode looked believable or not. And of course, making him a little bigger with more durable plastic & engineering would have been a major bonus to help justify the price.
That said, I don't think they're going to simply shelf his mold just because this version didn't sell well. I absolutely anticipate them re-releasing it in animation accurate colors, along with at least 2 of the expected repaints. The fan & collector outcry was simply too loud to be ignored, and it's been pretty established at this point that a lot of people will still buy it when/if it gets released properly... even with all the known poopy plastic & stability issues.
My two cents anyway :)

Cellshock mentioned animation accurate colors, but what are the two repaints? Are they what the other Seekers will be, or will there just be a color variation on Starscream?

Err, Starscream repaints = Thundercracker and Skywarp.

i would love to see a re-sized starscream. i dont expect it, but i'd certainly appreciate it.
though others will, i have ZERO intention of buying any other version of this mold. possibly a show accurate version with the crown and junk and then selling my original. but i wouldnt buy thundercracker or skywarp. i just hate the mold too much.

I think your best chance of getting a larger and remolded MP Starscream is to petition JustiToys. But even that idea is stretching and I am sure the price would be quite expensive.

Well lets not be too pessimistic shall we?? But I do feel a remold would not be in the likely future, yet, it's Takara/Tomy, and not the old Company, and from time to time, the japanese toy manufacturers have surprised us..Max Factory and Guyver are my primary example.. I thought for sure the license would have went to some one else, then Wham!! Maxfactory hit me with their action figures, and Damnit!! I'm going steadily broke....Arggghhh!!!!
Anyways I have posted some images of exactly the sizing I was talking about, I realize Starscream was shorter then Megatron, I don't want him the same size, just a bit taller to fit the show accuracy a bit better, and the original G-1 toys weren't that much off in scale..
See below:
Original Scale as it is now:

Photoshopped, Proposed scale increase with Anime colors:

Starscream And Megatron Cartoon size comparison:

Anime Accurate Starscream:

Original Mold Starscream:

I still stand by my thinking of how he should be redone, a bit larger, anime accurate colors, and the feet, well...that's ok to live with them keeping the updated version.. but definately Nix the Doctor Archevil, add the coronation set, and the antimatter time bomb from that g-1 episode with doctor archevil will suffice..

I'm actually glad he is in his darker scheme. Yeah, I was dissapointed at first, but there are only 3 light coloured tfs on show (cl bumblebee, 20th Prime and alt swindle). So his darker scheme fits in well with the rest of my collection.

Yeah, he isn't as big as Prime, but he is the same height as anime Galvatron (who stands defiantly beside him in my collection). And as for this coronation gear, yeah. He only had it for 2 minutes. And Prime was only seen with the matrix a grand total of 6 minutes through the entire show. Yet he had the matrix in his MP. I thought the accessories were to be iconic things that character interacted with. Hence, Prime's axe, the Matrix, Archeville, Kremzeek, Megs mace and so forth. I believe that's why people are so obsessed with it. Or they could do what I have done and make some out of cardboard and paint. The shoulder pads look awesome on him.![]()

See thats my point, the items need to be iconic, and granted Archevil was iconic, but his little figure sucks ass, and I don't see spike's or daniels being released with MP-01 or MP-04 Prime, nor that fat Multi-millionaire who was with Megatron in a few episodes, do we really need a useless figure to pilot Star Scream, now the coronation set would be great seeing as how it was the last outfit that Starscream was in when he died..so to me that's I conic..the Doctor Archevil figure is crummy and cheap and not worthy to be in this set..
Here are some images of the detonator from the episode entitled Count down to Extinction!! (in loud booming voice)
This in my view would make an excellent replacement for Dr. Archevil..

Or the actual bomb itself, which would be a little more less likely to be made by Takara/Tommy..keep in mind this is only a suggestion of things they should do.. and not what is going to happen..this si a wish list more or less..

And of course the coronation Garb..

Now don't get me wrong, i love Doctor Archevil, But I think a large figure of him in detail would be awesome, and i would definately buy it, I'm picturing something in anime style like the show in total PVC un movable, he would be just for show.. and not to actually fit into the bots in scale..

To an extent, I have to agree.
From my understanding of the point of the MP line, RM SS kicks MP SS all other the pitch.
That said, if I was to have to choose to only have one of the two, I know it wont be RM who I keep.

I think Dr. Archeville is pretty iconic. I think the scale of Archeville and lack of paint is the disappointing part. One nice thing about Archeville is that he fit in MP-04 robotic blasting thing in the trailer.

I prefer Archivelle over that detonator and bomb. They were only in the one ep, whereas the good doctor was in 4. I also don't have a problem with the little guy fitting in SS as a hostage, not a pilot. The only thing I don't like is the unpaintedness of it. But that's been fixed. Although I would prefer they scrap him and the missiles and give us the coronation gear (contrary to what I said earlier, mine doesn't have his pads. They fell apart.
)
Going back to the issue of his posability and his feet, mine has no problem with that. He is in a menacing stance (standing on his own two feet and balanced perfectly) holding Megs that came from Prime.

It was starscreams dynamic pose from the movie.. I guess.. and It just seems to me, I know he's a jet from Earth but he's a darn transformer from space too, and not only that have ya'll seen the colors in cyberton, armada, and energon?? its like a rainbow world of transformers!!! I mean why can't starscream be done in Anime colors and still be cool, and not to mention coronation gear, versus a ccrappy figure for his cockpit.. or a detonator.. or something better then what was released before?? I just hink he's better off being redone and repainted and re accessorized..
