Emotionally? Having to inform a mother that her son had been killed in action.
As far as gore factor, I once happened upon a crash where a guy had been pinned under his flipped pick-up. He consequently lost an arm.
As far as "aw ****" factor, seeing a guy arrested after he tried to choke his girlfriend to death. The cops arrived and maced the guy before handcuffing him.
Most scared I've ever been? The first night I got mortared in al Kut.

Last week, I saw a pidgeon lying on the ground in front of me. As I got close, I saw it had no head. Instead, a V pattern of it's brain was splayed out across the street. As if it had literally exploded. Or popped.
Then there was the field course I was on last year. The area I was working in was littered with sheep carcasses. Some just skeletons, some still with meat on them. At one point, I slipped down a hill and ended with a small leg right next to my head. It still had a hoof, meat and wool on it.

That is really quite disturbing. I can't believe how brutal it actually is for our men and women fighting over there!
I feel so helpless reading about that.

I've seen quite a few disturbing things in my 23 years of existence, but one always tops them all. That being a video compilation hosted on a website that caters itself to the voyeurs of the internet, the media in question being the uncensored videos of the American hostages being beheaded in Iraq (among them being Nick Berg.)
When one thinks of beheadings as a means of execution it's hard not to envision the person's head-and-body being restrained in a guillotine, similar to the way Marie Antoinette met her end; however, this was a way more inhumane version if even possible. This barbaric method involved the victims throat being slit open with a blade no bigger than a hunting knife, being left to bleed to death and then brutally sawing off the head with the same knife, as if the person were a piece of meat. Truely sickening stuff.
Strangely enough, I find atrocity rather fascinating especially when juxtaposed to the concepts of how mankind champions itself for being civilized and progressively accomplishing so much.

One that I forgot earlier.
In 2003, I went to a blood drive at a local gym. It was pretty much dominated by young men, and they had a TV set on a table and were showing movies. What were they watching, you ask? Blade.
Anyway, I finally lay on a table and got my blood drawn. It only took a few minutes, I've got veins the size of cats and bleed quickly. But as I was getting up, I stepped in this sticky fluid.
I looked up to see a young woman lying on the table. Her bottom lip was trembling and she was incredibly pale. Her blood bag had burst and was proceeding to bleed all over the hard-wood floors.
Somebody got fired for that one, I'm sure.
As soon as I realized what was happening, a swarm of medics descended on the scene and started treating her for shock and an ambulance was called.
Walking through a large puddle of blood while at a blood drive was pretty disturbing. I didn't give blood for a while after that.

I second that! What were they thinking?
Decapitation is pretty bad, too, but I don't have the stomach to even attempt to watch something like that.

any of you guys watch the "Faces of Death" series? Yeah, that did it for me, there's uncensored footage of gore and mayhem, and actual people dying in many different ways. Thats what did it for me. Oh, and "Red Asphalt" as well.

Wow, I guess me thinking a Pink Floyd music video disturbing is
nothing compared to some of the things you guys put down. I probably say AKIRA, though one my favorite anime movies and mangas is disturbing.

You ever see South Park: The Movie?
You know how they found Cartman's mom in a "German Scheiße Video?"
I found out what that is.
Look up "Coprophilia" at Wikipedia. I seriously advise against using Google.

About 10 minutes later they leave the guy lying on a park path and bleeding. When the police got there they could not figure out what had happened because the man was unable to talk due his jaw hanging down.

Go to google. Type in anencephaly.
It's a condition where a baby is born without a skull case. There's a face, but no skull.

To respond in kind, Burn.
As for my real terror, that would be around 2 winters ago on the way home from work. As I came over the hill, I seen flashing lights on the side of the road. It was snowing quite heavily, so I figured it was an accident, so I slowed down.
As I got closer, it was apparent that it was the tail end of an accident, the officer and two witness vehicles were all on the shoulder of the road. They weren't far enough over, however, that I could safely pass them without moving into the oncoming traffic lane slighty.
Unfortunately, a car was coming from the other direction, so I slowed down even more to give the car coming from the other way a chance to get through before I intruded into his lane. This is probably the biggest life saving decision I ever made.
As I came to almost a dead stop, the car coming from the other way lost control and his rear end came swinging forward across the road into my lane. The angle was just right where the back end hit the officer as she was walking back to her squad car.
She went flying through the air, accompanied by a cloud of snow. That image will be in my mind for the rest of my life. I immediately pulled over and ran towards the officer to see if she was alright.
She was bleeding from the face, as she hit the front end of her squad car when she landed. She refused to get up, to allow us to take her to the hospital, so we retrieved some blankets to keep her warm while we waited for an EMS unit.
I remember that the other witnesses had cell phones and called 911. Meanwhile, I was reaching under the squad car trying to retrieve the officer's radio.
I got it and gave it to her and she radioed dispatch for assistance. With the snow and traffic, it took forever for help to arrive. To give you an idea, we were 2 miles away from Waunakee EMS and it took them at least 30 minutes to get there.
As we were waiting, I blocked off traffic at first, but it eventually started to build up, and there are no other roads near the scene of the accident. So I start flagging traffic through in an effort to prevent another accident.
Eventually, more cops and the EMS showed up, and we ended up staying there for about another hour while the cops tried to interpret how the accident happened, based upon our individual accounts.
To make matters even worse, the driver of the vehicle that hit the officer only spoke Spanish and none of the officers that arrived on the scene could understand him.
I do know that the officer lived after going to the hospital, as for the driver, I have no idea.

There was a video circulating on people's phones, I'm not sure if it was real, but the kids who had it seemed pretty impressed.
The clip begins with a couple of men hauling a pig into the back of a pickup truck. Another man puts a boot on the pigs shoulder, and starts up a chainsaw.
Yes.
The guy (hockey mask and all) begins sawing into the pigs neck, it's still very much alive. The audience (in the video) seemed to be loving it. The guy carries on sawing until the pig's head is clean off. He then gets of the back of the truck and leaves the body to kick about, pouring blood everywhere. And the audience is still laughing at this.
If that clip wasn't real, then the most disturbing thing was probably what I read about Unit 731 (Wiki it). The Japanese military division dedicated to research into germ (and other means) warfare, tested out on live, human subjects abducted from occupied China. Vivisections were carried out with no anaesthetic as this would apparently affect the results. Individuals were sliced up while very concious. Limbs were removed and sometimes attatched to opposite sides of the body. Women were impregnated and had the foetus removed (before its time) to test various viruses on it. Subjects sometimes had their stomachs removed, and their throats connected directly to their intestines.
etc etc...
Its amazing what we humans like to do to each other and everything else, eh?
*shudder*
Luckily I haven't seen anything nasty first-hand. But then I'm only young.
