somewhat new tf fan, just saw 1986 movie for the first time
And WOW!!!! I can't believe how good this movie is. It has alot of things going against it.
It was made in the 80s, and it's a cartoon.
I wasn't even alive in the 80s, and cartoon movies of the 90s sucked ass. I didn't think a cartoon TF movie from the 80s could be any better.
But, WOW!!!!
I love all the 80s music (Weird Al) and I even changed my name to incorporate Rodimus (who would've thought that badass John Bender (Judd Nelson) could be a badass TF)
Anyway, I just gotta say that this movie is so sick.
I knew about Beast Wars when I was little and then the new movie made me into a real fan and I started watching G1 episodes.
I gotta say that I'm so glad I watched this movie.
It's just something I had to express. I'll probably watch it again before I go to sleep.

It'll never be that good agian!
Optimus dying in the 80's vs the tears of all the pokeman in the 90's making for a happy ending
Yeah! The 80's where a great time for animation. We got past the cliche haberdashery of the Hana Barbara 70s but still weren't rooted to the PC child safe mentality of the 90s
It was a majical time for experimental animation. Hell even the Smurfs out class most of todays shows.
I blame the whole overdone PC movement for that!
So be thankful for DVD and the fact that you can enjoy yesteryear through those.

That's the best movie EVAR! I remember when I first rented it a loooong time ago, I almost cried when Optimus died
.
How's the new remastered version look compared to the old one? Worth the cash?

JustinROD: Congrats, man. I love the old movie, always have. I never let myself cry in public when Prime died, but I did many times when watching it alone. And to this day, I choke up when I hear the "Death of Optimus Prime" instrumental score piece.

Okay, that's it, I'm putting the movie in my dvd player right now!

As an 11yr. old kid obsessed with TFs but pretty much made to play every sport known to man. My father would make me run till i puked and do all sorts of rocky like chores! I almost **** and pissed my pants when he took me to see it at the theater! I cried
i laughed
and i'll never forget it! One of the best movie experiences of my life! I love that man!

Wow....talk about bringing back memories!
I was 16 when the movie hit the theatres, and I had been looking forward to it for months, since I was already a HUGE fangirl by this time. I had just scored my drivers license two weeks prior, so my friends piled into my 1974 Chevy Caprice Classic and went to see it. My best friend at the time cried her eyeballs out when Prime bit it. I ended up seeing that movie like 10 or 11 times in the theatre....Could not get enough! When it came out on video for the first time, I bought it. I watched it a few times and then moved, forgetting where I had ended up packing the damned thing...and did not find it til I got divorced 3 yrs ago....
...and it is just as good today as it was back then! I still cheer when Prime dies...I still weep when Megs gets reformatted (I HATE GALVATRON!).....you cannot beat that kind of movie when it gets you as a kid and keeps you as an adult! A true classic well worth owning!

That's awesome. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie so much, it reminds me of when I was first wowed by the movie when I was about 4 years old- I'm 22 now, and because of that, it always amazes when somebody now tells me they've seen it for the first time, because it's been so many years since it first came out, and since I first saw it. For what it's worth, I hope you enjoy Bay's Transformers 2 as much when it comes out.

Everyone pay no attention to Pyro's blatant anti-Hot Rod and Galvatron propaganda.

My biggest memory of watchinmg the movie as a kid was this. I didn't see it until after Season 3 was on the air (our theater was sloooow) so I knew Optimus was dead/gone somehow.
But there's that scene where all my iother favorite Autobots got pasted on the shuttle. Back then, you could blow a bot to bits 12 times and he'd be perfectly fine by episode's end.
So the tide turns in the movie, Rodimus saves the day and I was all happy at the end.
And then I got real sad.
I turned to my dad and said "Hey, where are Ironhide and the others?"

Their corpses were placed into the Autobot Mausoleum (which eventually got blown up anyway).

I'm fully aware of that NOW...but when you're 9 years old and used to seeing these Autbots blown into a million pieces and then "fine" by episode's end, well I was confused (and sad)to say the least.

Well you're first problem is that you grew up with cartoons in the 90s.
In any case, welcome to the sheer awesomeness that is Transformers, where the good guys have guns and the bad guys weren't misunderstood.
