How can one bot be such a badass? It defies logic, but screw it, it's Soundwave. Trollwave. Welkerwave.

It's like, I want to say what my issue with your post is, but there's literally no way to go about that that isn't hypocritical.

Episode 62 -
Shockwave says that the combination of elements that brought about this Cybermatter could allow the Cons to cyberform entire worlds.
Whoa, Shockwave's mad! Or, at least, irate. Either way, he's showing emotion!
Starscream, ever quick to tongue by fighting logic with logic.
Megatron wants to rebuild the Omega Lock to either restore Cybertron or to try again at cyberforming Earth (either one is fine for him).
Even though Agent Fowler is a member of Unit:E, there are other hangars labeled with other Alphabet letters next to the one marked "E" that the Autobots use.
Due to the limitations of Ratchet's new equipment, all he could do to replace Magnus's hand was to give him a new claw appendage.
Boy, Smokescreen's really insensitive towards Bumblebee's damaged voicebox. Gotta wonder what kind of things Frank Welker was saying during all of Bee's beeping in that scene (beyond Raf's summation of him being attached to his original voice).
Predaking wants Megatron to not only restore Cybertron, but to resurrect the entire Predacon race from the remains that lie on the planet. Megatron doesn't seem too keen on that idea. Also, in the painting depicting the Predacon army, it looks like ther are some original, non-toy designs thrown into the mix.
Due to the severe damage of the Omega Lock, Shockwave suggests retrofitting Earth tech into fixing the Lock, rather than building new materials from scratch.
The reason the Cybermatter from the cave was unstable was because of the Synthetic Energon formula being incomplete.
Ever the glutton for power, looks like Megatron wants to actually perform BOTH the restoration Cybertron and the remaking of Earth. Shockwave questions the logic of ruling two worlds, which Megatron explains because that the two planets are Yin and Yang, Primus and Unicron, and "to rule only one would be to never truly rule either."
Ratchet forbids Magnus from going into battle until his claw is fully ready for full use.
Laserbeak vs. Optimus, Round... 2, is it?
Dude! Prime just punched Laserbeak!
IMO, Soundwave seemed to go down a bit too easily. That, combined with the fact that Laserbeak made no attempts to defend his master, makes me think there might be something more afoot with this.
Thanks to the Autobots having the foresight to shield their new base, Soundwave can't give the Cons the Autobots' location, nor can the Cons track Soundwave's.
Hmm, then again, the Cons seem to act like his capture was an unplanned event. Then again again, Megatron seems hrdly worried about Soundwave's capture, though he does say how certain he is in Soundwave knowing when to give info and when to withhold it, so... we'll see.
LOL, Soundwave is such a troll.
Ratchet wants to open up Soundwave to extract the info they need, but Soundwave is quick to erase it.
SOUNDWAVE SPEAKS!!! But, alas, it is yet another overuse movie line. Still, he sounds most like his Movieverse counterpart's voice, using Frank Welker's Dr. Claw voice with little voice modulation.
He's also severed all communication by crashing his own drives.
In order to complete the Synth En formula, the Cons need Ratchet, but still don't know how to find him or the Autobot base. However, Shockwave notes that Soundwave didn't only keep records of just the Autobot's human children allies, but of another of their human allies as well...
Laserbeak's after Fowler.
And Megatron expresses distress over the capture of Soundwave to Predaking. I guess it really was an honest capture after all.
Huh, Wheeljack wants Magnus to come with them this time. Cool.
Smoke and Bulk note how creepy Soundwave looks, as though he's watching from every direction.
Ratchet's figured out what the Cons are plotting.
Optimus won't allow Megatron to rebuild the Omega Lock, and Ratchet... understands. Good for him.
Incoming Predaking.
Hey, Optimus still has an arm-coverted cannon in addition to his back-stored gatling gun. In other words, he can still "Arms Up!"
Optimus vs. Predaking... wow.
How convenient that the human facility is tall enough to accomodate the Bots.
Smokescreen reassures Ratchet that, though it may not be with the Forge or the Omega Lock, they will find a way to get their planet repaired.
Nice! Laserbeak found the base simply by tailing Fowler, rather than capturing him or anything that might get thwarted. Smart birdy.
Soundwave lives.
And he walks through the Bots like a boss.
He's about to grab Ratchet and...
FIN.
Huh, a cliffhanger.
All in all, a cool episode.
And, next week, Ratchet's captured while Starscream and the Jet Vehicon Generals take out the Hangar E.\
Also, wow, I wrote a lot. Guess I'm still in notetaking mode from BotCon. ^_^'

Soundwave is less of a "character" and more of an "entity", as he's portrayed less through characterization and more through sheer presence and inhuman nature.

He's still awesome, but for different reasons than, say, Smokescreen or Wheeljack.

This episode was a mixed bag for me.
Optimus VS Predaking was quite the battle.
Soundwave having (well, close to it) his G1 voice was definite fanwank and much appreciated. (It also helps that his first time talking was simply bad ass.)
However, the mission the bots went on just made the footage seem useless and lifeless.
And Megatron and Starscream and Shockwave...second verse same as the first, a little bit louder and a little bit worse. (I swear, they're just rehashing themselves this entire season.)
And while it's not a part of the the episode, the preview for next week's just sucked some of the life out of it for me. The Autobot base is destroyed AGAIN? AGAIN?! Twice in the same season?! Okay, technically it started at the end of 2, but carried over to 3, but still... I see some of the complaints people have now.
The final episodes better be impressive and the movie better wow me. This season has been up and down but never really found an equilibrium. Season 1 was top notch. Season 2 was for the most part impressive, but when it had it's moments, they were pretty terrible. (Relic Hunt, anyone?) 3...I have no idea where they're going with it. I mean, I do, but each episode is just a mess. (Except for Thirst and Evolution.) Speaking of Thirst, much like this episode, it was a filler. However, Thirst was one of the best of the season. It's pretty bad when you can say the filler was better than most of the material.
I'll buy the season when it comes to video, the movie too, because I want the complete story. But dang.

I think we can all agree Soundwave is a badass.
Though that was definitely a highlight of the episode for me, there was so much more going on that deserves discussion. Namely that we're getting a nice multi-episode arc that isn't a McGuffin hunt. This is the first non-multipart cliffhanger we've had since Regeneration, and it's building nicely towards the finale.
I'm glad the Synth-En was elaborated on, specifically that its incomplete form can create Cybermatter, but not Cybermatter that can be controlled or directed, leaving only chaotic forms. I'd also like to know how much Synth-En the Decepticons have left to work with, and if Knock Out or Shockwave have improved on Ratchet's original design any. I'd also like to know what elements go into making Synthetic Energon, but hey, all things in time.
Optimus and Predaking finally get into an extended throwdown, and it's one of the best fight scenes in a season that has seemingly consisted of nothing but awesome fight scenes. No surprise there.
Now, then... Ratchet. What will you do?

The point of Synthetic Energon was that they could make as much as they wanted. They went over it extensively back in TMI.

Are you kidding? What's wrong with their new base getting destroyed? What's wrong with having the Decepticons be competent? Don't you remember how everyone was complaining about Darkmount getting destroyed and the Bots getting a new base so quickly back in episode 56? People were practically clamoring for the Cons to go blow up the new Autobot base right then and there just to get even. The fact that it's taken them six episodes to do so ought to be a gripe of all those who complained back then, so for it to get blown up next week will be a long time coming for those whiners.Autobot032 wrote:And while it's not a part of the the episode, the preview for next week's just sucked some of the life out of it for me. Season 1 sucked.Autobot032 wrote:The final episodes better be impressive and the movie better wow me. This season has been up and down but never really found an equilibrium. Season 1 was top notch.
The hunt help give it focus. Unlike season 1, season 2 actually had objectives and goals to carry out.Autobot032 wrote:Season 2 was for the most part impressive, but when it had it's moments, they were pretty terrible. (Relic Hunt, anyone?)
Season 3 has been pretty focused thus far, being split into three story arcs:Autobot032 wrote:3...I have no idea where they're going with it. I mean, I do, but each episode is just a mess. (Except for Thirst and Evolution.)
53-56 - the aftermath of season 2
57-61 - Project Predacon's development
62-65 - Synthetic Energon and Cyber-matter
How... how was this one filler? It's obvious Part 1 of a four-part season finale. The fact that it cliffhangered the way it did makes it obvious that its plot is going to continue. And the next three episodes seem to be following its lead with next episode having Megatron appeal to Ratchet, the one after that having the Autobots go to save Ratchet, and then the last having the final showdown.Autobot032 wrote:Speaking of Thirst, much like this episode, it was a filler.

You gotta understand that filler is often tossed around as criticism, so people who don't like a show will basically use it to show how much they don't like the show while not understanding what the word means. Kinda like a young child that just parrots swear words it heard the older cooler kids use.

Especially when it doesn't apply. Things have been flowing together pretty well since Thirst, actually, with each episode taking off from the previous, as well as sharing plot points. Thirst and Minus One aren't filler episodes by any stretch of the imagination.

Re: The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
*sigh* They just HAD to take away the whole uniqueness of Prime Soundwave by straight-up copying "Soundwave superior" from the original movie, vocoder and all. Well, different bots inferior, but really the same darn thing. On the other hand, Prime Soundwave hasn't exactly been the most interesting character, doing little more than bad guy deus ex machina.
But the whole crashing himself and evidently needing Laserbeak (who was awesome in his own right) to reboot is actually pretty neat.

Can't really say that this show has had filler until now, well save for the clip show episode and even that kinda served as set up.
So far every episode is kinda important, ether by setting up for the next or well introducing something for a future episode.

At worst, "Thirst" can be considered a "standalone" episode, but not a "filler".
What about episode 11, "Speed Metal"?Dead Metal wrote:Can't really say that this show has had filler until now, well save for the clip show episode and even that kinda served as set up.

Namely that we're getting a nice multi-episode arc that isn't a McGuffin hunt. This is the first non-multipart cliffhanger we've had since Regeneration, and it's building nicely towards the finale.![]()
I wasn't clear, sorry. When I refer to "multipart" episodes, I refer to things like "Orion Pax" or "Darkness Rising". All of the episodes in Season 3 and many episodes in the latter half of Season 2 were individually named rather than parts, and still told an interweaving story. It's the difference between a multi-episode arc rather than an episode divided into two or more parts.

As awesome as hearing Welkerwave is, I agree with you, they sacrificed a new character that was well established for some fan service. If it was a crappy character that was sacrificed it's ok. But wasn't Soundwave always been able to speak since he's WFC Soundwave? Like it's official but he just doesn't like to speak?

Re: The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
I wish we knew why Soundwave chose to be silent. Heck, I wish we knew anything about him as a character. A little mystery is a good thing, but it's like the writers are incapable of doing anything with Soundwave save "win the day in a badass way". Which is just boring now.

Because you can't have both, and they chose the mystery route. Giving his backstory diminishes the character, especially for Soundwave.

Yea I mean Thirst is super important, filler episodes can be left out without any consequence what so ever, Thirst however establishes the loss of the Insecticons, loosing half the troops, Airachnid's reawakening, Silia's death oh and the new group of vampires.
You're right about Speed Metal though, completely forgot about it.
