Need assistance in selling a collection to sponsors.

It's not you Movieverse, it's me.
I think it's time for me to part ways with the movie toys. eBay, kijiji and BST is probably out of the question, at this point I just want it all out of my way.
So has anyone sold a lump sum of a collection to BBTS or TFsource? Recommended? Is it at a good value? Do you get cash/cheque or store credit?

Re: Need assistance in selling a collection to sponsors.
You should find this to be helpful for BBTS:
BBTS is buying a huge variety of toys from many lines and manufacturers, including both modern and vintage items! If you are looking to sell a portion of your collection, just a few items, a storage unit of toys, or even liquidate your store inventory, please Email the Vintage Department ( vintage@bigbadtoystore.com ) with information about your items. We'll do our best to negotiate a price that is fair for both you and us. We are willing to buy items for cash, BBTS store credit, or a combination of each.
We are looking for nearly any kind of figures from the past 25 years that are still sealed in their package as well as some loose figures. Help us further improve our selection by selling us items you no longer want!
If you have any items to sell please don't hesitate to Email the Vintage Department with information about your items. Dennis, our vintage manager, will get back to you promptly. We look forward to working with you!
Thanks!
Joel Boblit, Dan Boblit, & The BBTS Vintage Department

I tried to sell a large number of G1, Alternator, Binaltech, and Masterpiece toys to BBTS (most of the items bought from them) and they offered me literally %15-%20 of what I had paid. And that was the trade in for credit price. It was literally not worth the time I had taken to decide what to sell.

They are going to give you about 50% under what they will ask for it.
Honestly, after all the fees, your gonna lose 20% of the value selling on eBay.
Email BBTS and TFSource.
If you got über rare aka "HTF!".
You might want to part with those via eBay, and leave the majority to a trade.

I guess there's nothing wrong with testing the waters and seeing what they value the toys at.

Trade will take your pants down, spank you hard on tell you cry!!
...if it was me it would be worth the hassle of selling private for at very least double what trade will give you so guess it all depends if you can afford to chuck money down the grid or not

Re: Need assistance in selling a collection to sponsors.
Go with small lots on eBay. Divide your collection into three piles: rare, common and bumblebee. The first thing you want to do, is send the whole bumblebee lot to BBTS after dropping a load on it. Tell them they can keep the change. Second, divide your rares with the mentality of each pile of commons is going to have one rare piece as it's selling point. Put the commons in their appropriate piles, and voila! Sell the lot with a buy it now price ten dollars higher than the rare piece would go for by itself. If you have any more poop left over from the bumblebee box, go ahead and put it in a new box to BBTS marked "united artfire". Trust me, they'll understand what to do with that. Good luck!

I got rid of all my movieverse stuff earlier this year through BST and EBay, wouldn't have done it any other way and despite the fees, was quite happy with the return.
That aside, it can't hurt to find out what they would offer you, but a bit of time and effort may yield better results....

Selling stuff to stores for re-selling and expecting a huge sum of money is asking to be laughed at. Those stores have to make profit too, you know? Seen it many times on Pawn Stars, and I can imaginable online stores like BBTS being no different.

Sorry, this has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever read on this site!

But to stay on topic, I've had a lot of people tell me to just sell figures on BST forums. eBay fees are ridiculous, and if TFSource/BBTS's exchange rates are anything like Gamestop's, then prepare to be bent over and screwed royally...without lube.

Agreed. Anyone looking to make a profit off what they've had on their shelves for years is, in my humble oppinion, nuts. Sure there's going to be the odd piece that's increased in value enough to give you money in your pocket after the transaction. Mostly though, things will depricate in value unless you keep them in a tub, untouched, for another 15-20 years.
I'm looking to dump a fraction of my collection this fall too. I believe that on most of the figures, I've gotten my money's worth and thus will not be expecting a bunch of money to come back from it.

Re: Need assistance in selling a collection to sponsors.
of course, there might be people of the opinion that the price they paid for the toy when it first came out/when they first got it, is worth the time that they've had it/the enjoyment they've gotten out of it, and just be happy to make any money off of something they no longer want/have room for.
I'm in the process of trying to decide what I want to get rid of from my numerous collections of stuff, and really, don't regret buying hardly any of it, so whatever cash I do make off of what I sell will simply be more money I can spend on the new shiny.
