wake up wal mart
That is the name of the website. I wonder if the story is true. It would be too bad that it took public outcry for them to do the right thing if it is true.

Thats where corporations are a bitch!
They take money from your check on the promise that adding it to a greater collective, because realisticly off the paycheck you earn, one couldn't afford to pay everyday medical bills and still survive. let a lone extreme bills!
Of course in all fairness if the CEOs of this and many other companies decided to cut their own saleries and expense acounts, we'd all be closer to affording the necesities of living....
But realy, I feel my bosses deserved a $5 million dollar SuperBowl getaway last year, with a $8 million trip to Vegas 3 months later(that one was at least for a confrence). Realy, how can they not deservive it! They spent a whole year giving me **** for not working all 7 days in the week, as apose to only my lazy 6!!!
Well, thats the end of my ranting, I'm gonna wrap this up by saying it suckes that companies set up plans to help it's employees get by and survive in times of crisis only to shaft them with those same good intents!

Very lazy indeed! And I must be worse only working 5 days in a row but weekends are off for me but my 8 hours per day are more like 12 hours!

Just kidding of course Liege!

I surely hope it's true. I think Wal-Mart demanding the money back at a time like this is a horrible and cruel thing to do.

It is sad how a company that big making that kind of money will not even notice if they got a couple of hundred thousand dollars. Meanwhile that is make it or break the bank for that family. It is sad but a friend of mine pointed out that it is not just wal mart but most big business is like that. How very sad!
My husband used to work at Pennington Seed. They make grass and bird seed. They used to have mandatory 7 days a week up to 16 hours per day. He got paid tons of overtime but still he was so tired. They used to get away with it because they are agriculture. Some loophole in not forcing an employee to work over 40 hours allowed them to do this for as long as they wanted. One thing he loves about his new job is that they hate overtime and it is forbidden to work off the clock. Many things that some companies do that is horrible is not tolerated at his new job, sorta new he will soon be there a year.

Retailers are like this the world over. Screwing their workers in favour of their pampered higher ups, and is part of the reason why I will never go back to retail.
That and the people who come through the doors every day treat the staff like so much ****, you wonder which side you hate more, your bosses or your customers.
But this story... is just disgusting and totally inhumane. Walmart is a giant sprawling machine that makes colossal amounts of money every day. How could they justify this kind of action? Dropping it doesn't excuse that it was started either. This goes beyond any kind of corporate driven cruelty I've ever experienced.

The ironic thing about this (and other similar situations) is that WM probably spent just as much on lawyers to fight this than if they had just settled right up front.

I Totally agree! but it's not necessarily about the money, a half million ( not even that actually ) is lunch money for some of their higher ups for a month but it's simply about winning the case and that they prevailed and keeping their overall corporate image looking good.
I'm glad I have only purchased two things from Walmart over the last 12 years literally and that was the Armada Unicron when it first came out and the G1 repainted masterpiece starscream...I'm tired of these exclusives though like the MP G1 starscream repaint.
Those bastards!

Well, I'm gonna say it. I hate to be "that guy" but I think I already am, so I'm just gonna say it.
How many people here buy TF's from Wal Mart?
I get mine off ebay, and they're all original G1 figures.
Yeah, I've bought stuff from them. I got my N64 there back in the day, and numerous school supplies. But I don't buy from them anymore.
I know, there's a gray area. I've bought things, recently, from McDonald's and Ikea, and I'm pretty sure those companies are just as appalling in some respect. My clothes are not from China, but the places they are from are probably no better.
Not to mention that my keyboard, mouse, and monitor that I use to make this very post were all made in China. I don't know about the labor conditions, but it's China.
So I'm no saint either.
But this thread is about Wal Mart, and I don't go in there anymore. This is a toy site, however, so how many of you are frequenting the place?

In the past year, I've gone there maybe twice, and I was pretty damn reluctant. I've only ever seen it as a last resort, if I can't find something satisfactory elsewhere, then I'd try Wal*Mart, though not happily. I also got my current glasses frames there, though, to be fair, I hate these frames. (They slip a lot)
The problem is that I don't have my own car, so anyone who DOES drive me, isn't going to want to go to a store we've already been to. Which is why, when I finally get a car, I'm never going to go back to Wal*Mart.

My own hospital charges $90.00 per month for employees to park there and they want to start charging $150.00 by the end of summer at the latest...there has been a huge uproar of course and I don't blame people.
I was fortunate enough that they paid to move me very close to work so I just walk to and from, it takes me seven minutes each way.

Anyway, yeah..."you cannot escape the Walmart"

I hate to admit it, but I do 98% of my shopping at Wal-Mart. On a limited budget, not to mention having everything within their store and it's in driving distance...I can't help but go.
Sure, I'd love to give my business to Target, Best Buy, Toys R Us, etc. And I do, just not as often as I'd like. With all of those stores being 40-65 miles away and Wal-Mart's only 6...well I can't help it.
Besides, by the time I spend the gas to go to these stores, I end up having less money to spend on their merchandise anyway.
So it's a no win situation for me and a lot of other folks. Wal-Mart knows what it's doing and they're doing it well.

I shop at Wal-Mart all the time. Nice place.
For the record, it's one of the few places in America where an uneducated, unskilled worker can make a near living wage, "move up" in the corporate plan, and be provided with a reasonable health care plan.
The ethics of the purchasing, don't even phase me in the slightest.

They don't interest me in the slightest.
Wal-Mart is a huge corporation employing countless individuals. By proportion, the number of incidents and issues is unlikly to be any higher than any other employer. Wal-Mart is big and as such, is a target. If there were actually a problem with them as an employer when compared to other employers, Wal-Mart would show disproportionate worker issues. They don't.
I worked at a Wal-Mart for 2 or 3 years during college. Best place to work ever? No. A decent job for people who otherwise couldn't get a job? Yes.

I don't buy anything there anymore, been clean for a while now. But that may have to do with me being very annoyed at the retail zeitgeist in general, in combination with so-called "Loss Prevention" practices and attitudes.
And, just a disclaimer, I'm considered a capitalist pig by most people's standards, and I hate it when companies preach capitalism and practice socialism. I know a lot of them do it, but that doesn't mean that I have to support it.

You might want to get checked for mind control chips. If you find one remove it carefully or you might get brain damage-amage-amage-amage-amaaaagee.

It's not the municipality, but I don't know if the Wal-Mart is a tenant in the building. I guess my Wal-Mart is uniqe because t took over a multi-level department store space, but you would have thought they would have made them wave the parking. You can get free parking if you spend over a certain amount and are only there for a little while. But if yo go looking for TFs and they don't have any, 3 bucks.

I would not shop at that Wal Mart. Let me guess you are in California? I was so shocked when my husband took me to meet his family in LA and I found out you have to pay to park everywhere. We could not even go to the beach without paying for it.

O_o... you have to pay to use the parking arrangements at the beach? That's absolutely ridiculous.
I don't think I could even visit California at this point. I'd be broke before I got off the plane.
