Re: Whats you favorite music band or bands?
My taste in music holds a pretty wide range - usually it focusses around the heavier stuff: Iron Maiden, Black Label Society, Clutch, Pitch Shifter, Testament, Slayer, Anthrax....list goes on
Having said that though I'm content to put in Rihanna, Corey Hart (yes it's true), Cream, Prince, Joe Satriani, Mr Bungle, NWA..... almost anything really, I;m just not too down with most country, and dance type stuff.
Oh, I should mention that I break into hives at hearing any
Ska
music, to me, ska is like really awful punk music that added trumpets and hoped for the best.
Take care

Re: Whats you favorite music band or bands?
My all time favorite even though the new albums suck, Iron Maiden.
I still love seeing them live.
After that I run a wide gambit. I'm very eclectic when it comest to music. Right now in my car I have Ananthema, my stereo in my TV room had Cubanaite, 3 Dog Night, and the Hell Raiser 3 score. The stereo in my bedroom is hosting the Singles soundtrack, Godspeed You Black Emporer, and the very rare DemonSpeed album Swing Is Hell. The CD player in my studio has the first Murder By Death album.
But realy my collection spans all types of music. I know online is the way to go nowadays, but call me a relic, I like taking chances in a music store. When you go online, your normaly going for somthing you heard on the radio or what a friend recomended. When you have a good music store though, you get whole albums for all their pros and cons, and take more of a risk when you look in the closeout bin and decide to judge a CD by its cover.
Look for stores that sell used, you'll do well!

For me it's metal.
GWAR- I love these guys because they're original and quite funny. Something that's not seen a lot in music, especially metal. That and the fact that they've been playing for over 20 years and still getting better. (go to a live show and you will not be disapointed)
Rage- a german thrash/speed metal band I like. another 20 year old band that has gotten an underground fan base in the US and is actually very good. I personally respect any band that can play in so many different languages and speak them so well.
Dethklok - What can I say? Dethklok is just plain awesome. I'm not usually into death metal but they do it so well.

Audioslave is not "Rage with Chris Cornell". Rage Against the Machine is not just the music of those particular guys, it's a message of social justice and becoming aware of corruption in politics and dangerous traditions of society.
And Chris Cornell is not retarded, because "Fell on Black Days" is an excellent song, and "You Know my Name" is the 3rd best James Bond theme ever, after Garbage's "World is not Enough" and Nancy Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice".

As far as genres, I'll listen to just about anything. I'm not a big fan of country, ganster-rap, or techno. Some of the newer genres are just noise to me.
My favorite band of all time is 311, but it is an odd relationship. They write some songs that I hate, and their last album was a huge disappointment imo, but their good stuff overshadows all of it. It's a combination of their positive approach to music, tackling numerous styles over their 20 year career, and a live show filled with so much energy your head could explode. I need that to offset my own natural cynicism.
I don't listen to the radio, but the stuff they release as singles does not encompass them in the least. Evolver(2003)'s "Still Dreaming" is a somber, psychodelic epic, Soundsystem's(1999) "Freeze Time" thunders like none other, the guitar solo in "Taiyed"(1994's Grassroots) would make Jerry Garcia blush, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's not even that they are all that more talented than anyone else, it's the way they play together, flow together, that keeps me coming back.
I have a long list of other bands and songs that I'm too lazy to post, but I'll stick to my favorite.
