Will all movie toys be this way?
Well Today I just recived my Protoform Prime, After I take him out of the box Im shocked, confused, and Almost Angry! He Has the cheap plastic He almost feels like a Knock-off. So I come to wonder Will all movie toys be as horrible? (plastic wise)

I've also been wondering about the plastic quality for the movie figures. One assumes that Hasbro might skimp out on the quality of plastic as well as the amound of paint apps, since there will be so many of these movie figures made, if they want to keep costs down, they have to sacrifice something.
I don't have any movie figures yet, but paint apps and plastic quality are deal breakers for me, can anyone with some movie figs give their opinions?

Plus they have to share profits with Paramount, so:
1) Why shoulder all the usual costs for less profit per figure?
2) If they reduce the costs, then that increases how much their share of profit per figure will be.
Of course I imagine they expect the volume of sales to be worth spliting the profit, but hey, every little cost cutting measure helps Hasbros pockets.

Well I have to Agree The Paint Apps Are Wonderful, But still Im scared the movie toys will be rather loose in the joints Becuase The Plastic dosent Weigh it down.

it would make sense that Hasbro would go cheap on the paint applications variations and also the plastic quality, I have never been one who favored their cost cutting measures.. it just seems that you could adjust the pigment in the plastic color mold before the actual toy was painted and then you would have a nice figure.. repaints and additional detailing are a pain and don't generally come out well, unless you use auto paint which a jack hammer couldn't do damage, ofcourse a good coat of Citadel miniature paint with a tomiya clear coat works as good as the auto paint and is less abraisive to the plastics..still I hate corporate greed.. it's prevelant every where in the world these days.. fanatics and greed rule the world wide order of war.. and thats a fact.. anyone who tells you different is lying and /or wants something..
I trust takara/Tomy..to an extent.. but if I want a figure from them i have to get a plane ticket to japan or China and personally inspect the item before I can package it and ship it to myself..arggghh one evil at a time please!!!

Opened mine last night. The figure itself isnt to bad but you can tell that its made out of cheaper plastic than the CLassic figures. Not as bad a KO plastic but far from Classic. And i can see the joints going after a while. Like some Beast Wars figures. The leg joints are a little lose. It figures, hasbro does something great with the classic line and once again they take a few steps back. Lets just hope that the main movie line is made like the classic line. But i like the figure. Im useing it as Primes Cybertronian mode. I can picture him flying around the skys of Cybertron pulling a hover trailer. Same with SC. He looks like a cybertron flyer. Havent opend Screamer yet but ill post my opinion when i do. But if you want the Prime one get it. Its worth it. I give it an 8 out of 10. The plastic and joints are a little off and it needs more paint. But other than that its a good figure.

And why is that? I've imported thousands of dollars worth of Transformers from Japan and never had one problem.

I dont agree at all. I love these figs. They held their poses. And they feel good, sure not like classics but you tell me every new series of figs that come out feel like the one before it. From what I can tell most people are looking for excuses to bash everything from the movie. To each his own. I cant wait to get the rest of the line, and would love more protoforms.

Is it just certain characters, or all of the movie toys?

Actually, I was also thinking the movie-preview figures would be inherently cheaper than the later figures. There are certainly aspects of the design that suggested that from the beginning.
I'm reminded of the Star Wars movie-preview figures, especially Jango. They weren't generally as good as the ones that came out later - articulation being the biter on that one.

I just opened mine yesterday.
I didn't think the plastic quality was that bad at all, but I do agree about the joints, they will loosen.
I like both robot modes to a degree. There is a severe lack of painted detail, the solid colors are kind of--interesting.
I think this Starscream's robot mode may be better than the larger version to come.
Just so you know, I think the alt modes are garbage. These could make interesting rock lords as repaints though.
I understand the idea, I just find it, odd.

I'm referring to the only downside thus far from Takara/Tomy, in which quality control has recently become an issue... other then that I generally love everything that comes from Japan...or Takara...I am how ever, out to lunch on the Transformers Nike shoes.. I'll wait for a review to find out how strong that plastic and paint applications are..
I think the movie figures will be stronger and more durable plastic seeing as how the protoforms are probably not going to be as popular with the kiddies.. which means that the protoforms are going to be in low production runs, and highly valuable collector wise after the dust settles...I'll buy 2 of em (one for my personal stash and one for sale later) when i see them and keep them closed, but I haven't seen any premovie toys here in Virginia yet, we are always last it seems..Anyone have some news on where I can find them here in VA??
With that said I found some sweet Macross jets that are being released, and man are they awesome!! One thing at a time please!! I'm not made of money.. arggghhh!! Between Guyver, Transformers the movie, Masterpiece, and the Macross line from Yomato, i may just go broke.. and lets not start in on DC Direct figures, Marvel Legends, and Botcon exclusives!!!

While I'm not a big fan of the protoform figures, I'm going to defend them in this conversation. I didn't notice them feeling any cheaper or of less quality than the regular line figures. If anything, I noticed that they seemed more poseable and more like an action figure. What exactly feels cheap to you?

Just opened my Screamer figure and its the same as prime. The joints are a little loose and the plastic is the same. But i like the figure. Like his alt mode better than primes. Looks more like a machine. I have also re-named him. His new name is Shakle. Dont know if i spelt it right and i dont care because im tired and its almost 2:00am. Like prime he gets and 8 out of 10. Now to go play Bullet Witch.
