DOTM Soundwave is growing on me (though I do think his satellite mode was much better) but his alt mode in all these figures just looks like it hadn't been painted yet. I don't like that shade of grey at all.

It's a weird shade of grey. Usually grey color schemes are one of the easiest color schemes for me to photograph, but not with this shade. I had to take a lot of photos with varying levels of saturation and contrast to get the best pictures my camera could take.

Call me crazy, but to me the best looking one is the Legion version.
The HA one looks horrible and stores all of it's mass in his torso, plus it's unpainted.
The deluxe is pretty cool sculpt wise, but the fact that he's almost completely grey and has a completely silver painted face without any colour differences anywhere on his body just make it look cheap and tacky. It's the Sideways of DOTM.
The Legion version isn't very screen accurate nor does it have a lot of paint, but it's a crappy, tiny, cheap toy in a class that is known for that, so it gets a free pass.

I already have Legion Soundwave, got that a few weeks back. Which one I get will depend on which I see on the shelves first, HA Soundwave or Deluxe, but both are cool to me. The only thing in the galleries that bothered me was Soundwave's bio on his HA package....it kind of makes it seem like Soundwave and Laserbeak were under human control, when the movie pretty much explicitly stated it was the other way around....I only hope that's the Japanese packaging bio, and we'll get one that makes Soundwave awesome again.

Finally got a hold of a Legends Soundwave, though I noticed he's slightly different from the one in the gallery. Mine has added detail to the car grill and some of the other vents.

As always, great pics. I like my Soundwaves big (seriously, other than the Cybertron Soundwave, why so many freakishly tiny SW's since G1?) so I'll be going with the Human Alliance version.
I do have to say though that through the last 2 movies, Soundwave was one of the worst characters in terms of getting screen accurate figures, especially his ROTF molds. These as I said are better than the last films so that is at least a plus.

Can you post a pic? I'd love to get a variant of this figure if mine is different.

Not my picture, but you can see the lattice-type pattern on the chest-grill. They're also on the air vents on the side and hood, though unpainted.

Pretty damn intricate for the size-class.

Wow. That's cool. Thanks for pointing this out. Thanks to you, I now realize that I have the variant as well (I have an extra sealed). The later variant has 12341 stamped on the back while the other one has 12161. Interesting. Even odder is that I think I bought the variant with the lattice-type pattern first when the figure first came out, but the stamped number on the back shows that the variant with the pattern came second. Can anyone else confirm which one came first?
