Whats up with all these one-eyed toy designs?
Swindle, Dreadwing, etc etc... all these toys are being designed as some kind of cyclops. Why is this? Why cant the just make regular transformers faces? I know the original Swindle did not have just one-eye.

i guess theyre supposed to be "drones".... giving them faces would mean they that they are actually somebody and not just a dispensable foot soldier for the decepticons.

exactly, i guess the best way to put is that these are like the storm troopers of the decpticons. but i do agree that the one eyed design is kinda wack and that hasbro couldve done a better job in portraying a "drone"

I like the Reflector look-a-like drones from G1. Folded up into cubes for transport. Now if they made those, I'd have to buy a whole bunch.
Ok, Hasbro, I changed my mind. Please don't make these. Having to hunt down a couple of dozen sharkticons was hard enough.

Here's how I deal with them:
I make wreckage the decepticon leader because he looks mean and a bit megatronish. Flank him with swindle and payload (when he gets released around here) because he trusts his drones a lot more than scheming underlings like starscream.
Forget dreadwing completely. He's crap.

Maybe the reason the Tfs would not give them faces is because it a lot easier to distance yourself mentally from something that looks really alien then if it looks a lot like you. Especially if you are only going to use it as cannon fodder.Bonger wrote:Why not? They look more like the other 'cons that way and wopuld be more pleasing to the TF's sense of aethetics. Similar to how we stick human mugs on robots we build....aka Transformers.

They are from the game, and the movie prequel comic, they are near brainless drones, much like all the drones in the Armada game.
They dont need to emote, their purpose is to fight and die. Thus 1 vision optic is more than enough to help them complete their purpose.
Also makes designing the toys easier, as all they have to do is find a place for a short, thin cylinder, instead of an odd shaped spheroid/cube.

EDIT: That said, is it just the fact that there's more of them than usual that prompted this? Transformers with one eye aren;t exactly new. Think the number of Shockwave homages, or helll, Transmetal 2 Iguanus. And even setting those aside, Transformers don't always have two eyes... Some have a visor, the Mini-Con Astroscope has three eyes, and movie Frenzy has four, just to name a few.

Coulda been worse. I coulda said that Shockwave, along with Shockblast, were the biggest pair of purple one-eyed monsters I've ever seen.

That being said, the drones did show feelings in the prequel comic. They were afraid of Megatron and relieved when it seemed like Megatron wasn't going to kill them.

Simply hate Movie Dreadwing's bot mode. No reason for him not to have a face in my mind.

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

This is very true.
Still, they didnt "emote" their fear, only voiced it!
