Does the entire Transformers franchise owe most of it's thanks, existence to America or Japan?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

...with a little help from the French ;) I've studied American history, i'm well acquainted with the 'founding fathers'. I must say, in terms of history, the 17 and 1800's were fascinating. Must have been crap for the average man getting sucked into wars every 5 minutes though.

That's how it was in those days...

Anyway, I do credit the Japs for keeping TF alive between G2 and Beast Wars in the 90s.

But, there was nothing between G2 and Beast Wars in Japan. Like in the U.S., Beast Wars immediately followed G2 (or G-2 as they called it) there too.

Yeah but over there people were still a lot more enthusiastic about TFs. There were a lot of fans here, but TFs did take a backseat to a lot of other fads and toys. Over there TFs stayed in the forefront, as if they were still new.

But during that time period (post G-2, pre-BW), ther were no new products or series to keep it alive. After G-2 ended for them in 1995, they didn't get the Japanese dub of Beast Wars season 1 until 1997.

And, accordingto TFWiki.net, the Japanese G-2 toyline wasn't very successful and wouldn't be followed by another drought until the JBW dub came in 1997.

That may be, but I was referring to the Japanese Transfans' generally higher level of enthusiasm towards Transformers. They look at it a bit different than we do. To them it's more a part of tradition than just another toy to be marketed, like it is here.

I do myself, they just never seem to tire of it, which is a great Japanese trait. Loved Beast Wars though, and susequently Beast Machines. Great, mature story telling. It hasn't been matched since.

Yeah, BW was definitely a high mark, though my opinion on BM is that it just went way out there. And just for the concept of BW the Canucks are forever etched into TFdom as awesome.
