Friendly ´cons
I´ve been wondering about this and, being a Decepticon fan myself, been bothered about it for some time now; you often hear that the Decepticons don´t make or have friends and that they may even be incapable of even feeling friendship. Do you really think this is the case?
For me personally, I have no trouble at all seeing ´cons as close friends. Someone once said that Autobot friendship is more like Marines friendship, All for one, one for all, that sort of thing, while the Decepticons tend to form very close units or smaller groups of individuals that they wouldn´t abandon in battle.
I´ve been wondering .. if you try to be friendly with everyone, á la Autobots, simply because you have to, because it´s your code of conduct so to speak, rather than choosing a few pals you really like and that resemble you in personality etc á la Decepticon, are you really that friendly with anyone?

I feel that the Decepticons can make very close friends. They just show it differently. I think some, like Starscream, may avoid close friends in case they have to do something they will regret.

Starscream had a friend, his name was Skyfire remember?

But yeah, the Autobot's friendship reminds me of a Marilyn Manson quote...I am just paraphrasing here because I don't remember it word for word

Skyfire is a case and point as to why Starscream may avoid friendships. He felt betrayed. I feel he and Megatron were good friends once and at some point, they had a falling out.

Ah ... yes, that´s more or less exactly my point.
So, can we call it confirmed that Decepticons can and do form close friendships with a select few?

Skywarp and Thundercracker seemed to be good friends. So did Cyclonus and Scourge. And Ramjet and Dirge. Megatron and Shockwave. Notice how Megatron would never get that angry at Shockwave, despite him never actually stopping any Autobot attacks on Cybertron, yet he would go ballistic at most other cons for alot less?
The combiners seem to be closer to each other than other deceps, especially the Stunticons. So I would say yes, the cons are very capable of having frienships. (Megs even seems smitten with Nightbird in that ep, so perhaps if they had female decepticons, they would even express love.)

Frenzy and Rumble? Come on ... those two were inseperable.
Plus Soundwave was quite protective of his cassette buddies.
I look at 'Con friendships as being more laid back. They feel they can give each other crap and don't have to go "heeey. Love that new finish Tracks, though I think you missed a spot on your groin, let me buff it for you" like certain Autobots do.
And no, i'm not implying Autobots are gay, just far too happy happy joy joy touchy feely.

Yeah, sometimes they did go overboard a bit with the Autobots being all touchy-feely, even to the point where they would laugh inexplicably at the end of a lot of episodes over something stupid, or something the humans did.

Let's see here... Air Convoy never told her full story and is extremely reserved because at the start of the war, she learned not to get too close to anyone after losing several really good friends.
But as for Decepticons getting close to very few people, that just might explain why I'm a Decepticon.
As far as friendships go, I think there might've been something between Dinobot and Megs before Beast Wars and same goes for Waspy and Terry. Anyhow, no point in getting too close to anyone if you live to conquer and know that anybody might die at any given time.

Well, going by the Comics, I don't think the Autobots are quite so YMCA. They are usually nice to eachother, but ultimately, there are still internal cliques that form - the Dinobots being an extreme example. In the cartoons, I'd say the lambo brothers are much closer than other bots, also Grapple and Hoist, and the 'kids' Arcee, Hot Rod, and Springer. Then in the DW comics you have Iron Hide and Kup, etc.
Among the Decepticons, the Stunticons are about the worst example you can give - the only thing that kept them together was mortal fear of Motormaster.
Good Examples:
Combaticons - Operated just the five of them, independent of the main Decepticons.
5/6 of the Seacons - Had some sort of a bond, even if it was just to exclude Nautilator.
Dreadwind and Darkwing - I think these two have always been blood brothers.
Rumble and Frenzy - Heterosexual Lifemates.

The first to 'Cons that came to my mind were Darkwing and Dreadwind. I mean, they're partners, they understand each other, they're both drunks (read the UK comics if you don't believe me.) They nye inseperable.

Decepticons make good friendships and alliances
The Seekers were pretty tight
Megatron and Soundwave(more than friends?)
Insecticons were always buddies too
so I guess that's why I like 'cons better

Actually, the Decepticons are just as touchy-feely as the Autobots, if not more so. There are frequent examples of 'Cons slapping each other on the backs, or even in extreme cases, hugging each other. Works the other way, too - they're more likely to haul off and smack the guy next to them when they're upset.
As for friendships, certain Decepticons did run in the same circles, and they weren't always grouped by their toy gimmicks (Rumble and Starscream lingered around each other quite a bit in season 1, as did Megatron, Ravage, and Laserbeak).

Starscream sees diplomacy as only a technique to manipulate others into following his ends. He is an utterly sociopathic character who is driven only by his lust for power and rampant narcissism.
Of course, those are the defining characteristics that make the character memorable. The fans would be aghast if he were any other way.
Thundercracker and Skywarp are simply coworkers (their assignment in the Decepticons is identical) and have merely formed a bond as a result of working in close proximity to each other.
Many of the Decepticons, notably the Triple Changers, seem to express reasonable ranges of emotion rather than bloodlust or villainy.

Sure they can be friends. It's a bit more subtle on screen.
Megatron & Soundwave: Megatron always seemed to trust Soundwave, and he always seemed to enjoy Soundwave's company to the other 'cons. Also, Soundwave did warn Megatron when Starscream tried to shoot him in the back in MTMTE. Also, notice how Soundwave's one of the 'cons to show up when Megatron got his ass kicked at Autobot City. And when he leans over to pick up Megatron, the tone of in Soundwave's voice when he says, "As you command, Megatron," sounded like some genuine concern like one does with an injured friend.
Galvatron and Cyclonus: Yes, Galvatron smacked him around, but watch Cylonus durring Webworld, especially when the Aliha tries to consume Galvatron's mind. And in Dweller in the Depths, when the Syphon captured Cyclonus, we see Galvatron taking a hike....and then he stops and turns around to see Cyclonus, who was screaming out for help. It looked like Galvatron wanted to go back and help Cyclonus, though I think Galvatron probably figured it was a hopeless idea, since he already saw what the Syphon can do.
Octane and Sandstorm seemed to be good buddies, and they were on opposing sides.
and BW's Megatron did go out of his way to save Inferno in Aftermath. Inferno and Quickstrike seemed to become buddies near the end of the Beast Wars.

I always thought the Decepticons had something more like miniature or private alliances than actual friendships.
Other than the gestalts (minus Menasor) and the Insecticons, I think every Con worked with one another either out of fear (of Megatron or someone else) or for their own benefit.
If they thought they could advance themselves without the help of others, they would. Triple Takeover is possibly one of the better examples.

as for decepticons being friendly I think their are plenty of them that have friends
soundwave and all the cassettes are the best example especially since soundwave carries them around in his chest most of the time you've gotta be a good friend to do that
