Hasbro's quality control with paintjobs
I hope I'm not the only one who has some issues with Hasbro's QC with the paintjobs on some of the figures. You know, some figures have smudged areas, others have paint dots where it is purely accidental. List your complaints here. It seems Hasbro makes quite a few mistakes when they are actually painting whatever figure they are manufacturing.

I think you're right. However this is an issue with most companies toy lines. It's a hit or miss situation. Sometimes a figure can be near flawless and sometimes it can have scratches or terrible paint apps. I usually look over my figures for noticeable flaws before purchasing.

I look over them too, but all of them seem to have problems in one area or another. For me it's trying to get one that has less of paintjob mistakes.

One of the worst that I've come across was A Predacon (TM Megs remould). The painted details on the dino head were present on the side facing outward from the box but left off on the other side. I ended up repainting what was already there as well as the missing side since I didn't have a sickly green to hand that was an exact match for the eye that they did bother doing. Also the purple paint on my Cl Skywarp's a bit wishy washy. I may end up going over that if I can find a shade that's a good match for the purple plastic on him.

I mostly had problems when buying Ultra Class figures from Cybertron's line. I got a couple bad ones in terms of paint or stress marks.

I agree totally too. But some figures, on the other hand, are very nicely painted. I have had no paint jobs done that are incorrect whatsoever by what I have seen. I look over very carefully before I buy. For example before I bought my Unleashed Bumblebee there was a black spot in his eye, so I picked another one that had the proper blue paint job.

Not any more so than any other company.

Fair deal. I swear I didn't notice these mis-paints so much at all when I was a child. Now I'm 18 and I'm, in God's words, being 'a whiny little bitch' about it.

Usually the painting is fairly decent, the movie figures have all been painted very well (bar 08 Bumblebee), but they might be because of the lack of colours on the movie figures.
The Transformers are painted no worse than any other toyline I have seen, Irwin's DBZ lines were often painted awfully, and many LotR, Batman and PotC toys sport slightly off paint jobs too.

And I suppose brighter paint jobs are easier to notice faults with, which is what I did with Vector Prime. Now look at movie Ironhide, very hard to find faults with his paint job cuz its all dark and black. The only fault I've found is with the bright gold colourings on his top thigh.

I went through approximately 25 bumbelbee unleased figures between 2 different stores before i picked one up that i was somewhat happy with. I havnt even opened him up yet so im afraid to see what is messed up on his back. I even paid an extra 3 dollars to get one from TRU that was in better condition then the toher stores.
WHen I first started picking up the movie figures, I naively figured they were all perfect tip top condition, boy was I wrong, I wish I could take some of them back. Good thing I figured this out before I bought leader class prime

To be honest, no figure is completely perfect; some figures are just better than others.
My Leader Prime has no smudges but it has some over-colouring in some areas. But I've just accepted it. No use fretting over it; just enjoy the toy.

yeah it is going to be pretty much hit or miss no matter what toyline you collect because they are for kids and they don't really care about paint jobs. I just look in the packages and try to find one that looks the best. It is all you can really do.

Yes, this thread can be the place where we all come to lick our wounds and assure each other that we did our best, and that there is nothing much else we can do.
In all seriousness, that is true. Let things be. Might as well enjoy the figure.

With a little patience, I think it is always possible to find a current toy with very few paint issues, ordering older molds from the internet however is a gamble.
The all time paint app nightmare for me has been Movie Swindle, the red just seems to bleed everywhere. I went through alot of stock and alot of stores before I found one with nice, clean, sharp lines throughout.
My pet peeve is paint on the windshields. I never buy bots with splatter or paint bleeding from a hood or door panel onto the windshield.

My Classics Ultra Magnus is shoddy, the screws on the legs are too loose which means when taking it apart to repaint they **** it up, plus the spinny part of his chest is busted.

That's true.
Now that toy, has consistantly bad paint apss. It must be either bad paint, or some shoddy plastic, or, I don't know but it sucks.

Seriously, it looks the majority of them are painted by someone having a seizure, probably the worst example of paint app I have seen.

I think the movie toys could have been drastically improved with more attention to the paintjobs. Most of the figures are pretty impressive, but one of the things I want, apart from more stuff to play around with (Leader Prime gets ONE weapon? Bah humbug), I want to see better paint jobs. My Leader Prime is not exempt from this.

I think the slight flaws give them more "personality." They are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike

My figures don't seem to suffer from any major flaws.
My one annoyance is that Classics Magnus doesn't have all of his paint apps present.

sounds like it was painted by me. That's why I don't build models.
