I don't even care for the G1 cartoon much, I've always been a comic fan mainly. My argument was that it's the 35th anniversary of G1, not the entire franchise.
And before you start on another anti-Geewunner rant, I understand what you're saying. The anniversary should be celebrated by all parts of the franchise, and I don't disagree with that. But considering it's the actual anniversary of the beginning of the franchise, which is Generation 1, a G1-themed celebration should not be omitted, even if later additions are included subsequently. That's all.
The later additions haven't been around as long, so it's impossible for them to have a 35th anniversary.

I see what you're saying though. But it is the 35th anniversary of everything. If it was the specific anniversary date of the first comic or episode of the cartoon, that is a specific G1 anniversary. But the actual line is '35 years of Transformers.'The later additions haven't been around as long, so it's impossible for them to have a 35th anniversary.
To flip that on it's head, G1 hasn't been going for 35 years on it's own either. It was a collaboration of all series, comics and films through which Transformers has endured three and a half decades. Virtually outliving all of its contemporaries.
Every facet of Transformers adds up to those 35 years, just like every Godzilla is recognised for it's 65 years.
