Is this a true "Masterpiece" Prime?

I see these advertised on Ebay as Masterpiece but are they actually just 25th anniversary? or are they true Masterpieces? I don't see Masterpiece on the box anywhere so i was wondering. Thanks in advance for any info.

Habsro's DVD, and 25th Anniversary versions are Masterpiece Primes, they are just Hasbro's releases of Takara's Masterpieces.

However, no none of those are actually Takara's Masterpiece releases, as Takara released all of them in nice Black boxes featuring the Masterpiece label.

All the Hasbro releases where in these see through plastic packages.

The toy inside however is the same Masterpiece Prime figure that Takara released.

There are small differences between the Hasbro version and the Takara version. Some people don't like the red color Hasbro used on the DVD version as much as the Takara red (I think it looks fine). I think the Hasbro smokestacks might be shorter due to US toy laws (apparently young children are eating them or stabbing themselves in the eye or something).

Yeah, US laws are getting a little ridiculous lately.

Yeah, as far as the toy goes, the smokestacks are stubby on the Hasbro version, and I think his gun is blue and gray instead of black.

The differences are as follows:
20th Any Prime
short smoke stacks
"Battle damage", aka stupid black paint on a few parts
Black blaster, instead of the Gray the Takara comes with

DVD Prime
Cartoon inspired paint apps, a more lighter red
short smoke stacks
blue blaster
voice box stand

also the hasbro version lacks the chrome front grill and smokestacks found on the takara version. i say this cause you may come across a mp prime with chrome stacks but ive yet to see one with the chrome front grill.

Nope 20th any Prime has the Chrome, the DVD version however does not.

20th Anniversary Optimus Prime came with both grey and black blasters. It was a running change. The battle damage was intended to simulate his final battle with Megatron. Both versions have short smokestacks in accordance with child to safety laws. These laws have been in effect for several years and are nothing new.

Well, the pic of the one I bought looks to have chrome grill and stacks and is the darker red. It is the non DVD version 20th. But if I inspect it enough it sorta looks like it has long stacks in the package. It might be just the way the picture turned out. Any other ideas, or is it possible some 20th's made it through like this? Look carefully at the smokestack on his left arm. Doesn't that appear to be long? Maybe its just a glare.

I can't wait till it comes in then I'll post pics.

Yeah, that's just glare. Look at the smokestack from the bottom up. You'll see where it cuts off and the glare begins.

I got the MP-04. My reasoning was because I wanted the trailer and long smokestacks.

You'll like that one though, but I will warn you that Masterpiece stuff is like crack. You're going to end up buying a lot of it.

Your prediction has already come true. lol. I currently have a MP Skywarp opened and displayed (had it since it was available at Wal Mart) and now the Optimus, Starscream, Grimlock and another Skywarp on the way. I love them! I also reall love the Human Alliance figures too. Masterpiece and Alliance are my current loves as of now.

Hah! I win!

If I had more money I would be in the same boat. I only own 3 MP's. MP-03 (Starscream), MP-04, and WalMart Skywarp.

I needs a Grimlock really bad.

Ebay is yanking Megs and the auctions are few and far between for him but if I could find him for a reasonable price I'd like to add him as well.

p.s. robofreak, I feel your pain bro. I'm a broke son of a gun too. Tax time is all that's helping me right now. lol

Don't know what you consider reasonable, but MP Megs pre-order:
http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/prod ... ode=retail

You should also be able to find long replacement smokestacks on eBay for like $10 or so for your Prime.

Hey, yeah that is a good enough price for me on BBTS. Off I go to preorder. Thanks for the heads up for stacks off ebay. I'll check it out and see what I can find. :D
