Of course. Boss fights always come with some kind of reward; new stuff, usually a level up in RPGs, the story is pushed forward a little more, and sometimes, the reward is simply getting to put an obnoxious villain in his place.

Oh yeah, they're awesome. Too bad most of the games I play these days don't have any real boss fights. Most of them are just you mowing your way through waves of minions to get to the wimpy boss. Bosses should be able to kick your ass on their own.

I hate sissy boss fights. Except for Penny Arcade Adventure, where what appeared to be a menacing boss, 100,000HP (The second highest in the game), no allies, and no summons...and then a single hit takes out over half his HP, and you just can't help but laugh as the words "SISSY BOSS FIGHT!" are displayed on the screen. But I rarely end up in real wimp boss fights...which is why I never finished Ninja Gaiden.

Re: Boss Fights
The problem with boss fights is that nowadays they're just enemies with tons of hitpoints, or, if you want to be "original," enemies with tons of hitpoints and a press X to not die" sequence. Really, bosses need some originality, like the Metal gear solid Series. Those games are good examples of boos fights.

Saints Row 2's boss fights were pretty awesome. Mainly because of the cut scenes after. Especially killing Vogel where he's begging for his life and The Boss just shoots the prick in the mouth and he falls out the window.

I hate coming up to boss fights because I know I'm in for it, but I love figuring out the trick to a boss fight. A good boss can never be taken down by a simple point-and-click shoot-em-up strategy, but should always have a trick you can exploit. I love finding the trick.

There is nothing more satisfying than a hard won boss battle especially when you are under-powered on a particular stage of the game.
The battle inside the Giant of Babil against the four fiends of the elements in Final Fantasy 4 really comes to mind. I hadn't been levelling up and spent what seemed like an age trying to beat them because I just couldn't face going back and levelling up.
When they finally went down after expending all my resources it was a fabulous feeling. A feeling that I very rarely have the pleasure of recapturing.

Every boss fight nowadays amounts to: "Do this trick that you have to learn...right now."
Ex: Twilight Princess...
Monkey flies along zip lines with bomb-assist. Dual target bomb and boss with skill that restricts movement all while dodging boss strikes.
The problem is that all of those fights are infuriating one or two times, then a matter of brain-dead play afterwards.
Boss fights should push your skills to the limit, not be a review of the most recently acquired item/ability, especially to the point that NOTHING else works.

Re: Boss Fights
Also, a good example were the bosses in Metroid Prime. They were really innovative and unique, at least compared to modern bosses. the Resident evil Series also has some good examples. GLaDOS was also really fun, even though it was mostly because of her banter. And lastly, Goro. 4 FREAKING ARMS.

I like the boss fights that require a trick. Let's face it, the same boss fight isn't going to be that hard the nth time around.

Re: Boss Fights
As a huge fan of Diablo series Contingency, I cant wait to play Diablo 3. The Bosses in that game have to be awsome. Seeing how big of a success the Diablo 2 and Expansion were, gotta say this will be sweet.I wonder what the next Command and Conquer game will be.

Castle crashers, the black knight who uses the organ. I actually find this boss fight to be very entertaining.
And there's also the entire game of Battleclash, since every enemy is basically a boss fight.
