Great work compiling this, Sabrblade! Some of these would make awesome prints.

I miss this artist on TFs. I'm not that happy with the stuff that's currently out there.

It's funny how folks refer to the Robot Mode Cybertron as "Proto Primus", "Pre-Primus", etc. since "The Secret of Cybertron" was still going to have the Quintessons as the TFs' creators while Robot Mode Cybertron was just that, a robot mode for the planet without any god status. It's also funny since Primus' original schtick was just "TF god" instead of "Cybertron's robot mode", when the latter is all that we see here.
Not to mention how TSoC would have had Unicron also be a product of the Quintessons, as a WMD created by them to reclaim Cybertron, instead of the origins we later got for the character (monkey scientist creation in the cartoon, evil god in everything else).
Had this thing been greenlit, we would have gotten non-god Unicron vs non-god robot Cybertron, and both simply being trump card pawns in the greater "Quintessons vs. Cybertronians" conflict.

Re: Cybertron's robot mode (unused concept art by Floro Dery)
Floro Dery is a legend. The very first batch of cartoon models based on the toys were created by Shohei Kohara, and I believe Dery's first job was to clean these up (removing doors on the back of Jazz, removing wheels on the legs of Optimus Prime, that sort of thing) for animation. Dery went on to create all the other cartoon models (season 2/movie), designs and backgrounds. Including characters like Elita One, Orion Pax etc. Without him, the cartoon and movie would have looked vastly different.
One thing though, I believe the first picture does not show Unicron's severed head, but instead envisions him attacking Cybertron as seen from the Hall of Heroes. He's using the same cloud mist cover as seen in the Lithone piece, and the original Marvel comics movie adaptation

Well, that's just what Dery wrote on his blog entry for that image.Hans wrote:One thing though, I believe the first picture does not show Unicron's severed head, but instead envisions him attacking Cybertron as seen from the Hall of Heroes. Decepticon Hall of Heroes, shown in BG are the Earth's moon and the severed head of Unicron. The 11"x17" signed print of this poster was recently bought by a Japanese collector for $200. Always check my daughter's Etsy store because other signed Transformers prints will be posted anytime at:

Re: Cybertron's robot mode (unused concept art by Floro Dery)
This morning I sat down to watch a certain part from the beginning of TFTM and I ended up watching the whole thing again. "The Transformers" is timeless.
I may have mentioned this before somewhere, but I'd love to see a new hand-drawn animated series, with only original characters: no Prime, no Megatron, no Starscream, no Bumblebee, etc. Not even recycled names.
And all designed by Floro Drey.
Shame it will never happen. Hasbro is too comfortable serving the same bots endlessly in different variations.
Regarding the book Floro is working on, he has piles of artwork from the original show, I hope it doesn't mean that they will have to drastically reduce the size of most of them.

And that would have made a hell of a lot more sense to me than "God and the Devil are robot planets"

Yeah, the concept of Quintesson creation of the Cybertronians is how I view the TF universe. They are machines who eventually evolved AI and thus sentience. They are not representatives or creations of larger machines who are "gods" because that always poses the question of "OK, so where did the "Gods" come from? Who/what created them?"

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am that which is, which was, and is yet to come.
And you will know my name is MEGATRON when I lay my vengeance upon you!

One more:
The Crystal of Power from "Fire on the Mountain"

The smaller text reveals even more:
The Crystal of Power from "Fire on the Mountain"

A closer examination reveals this to be the combined form of the enigmatic Anibots, who were the prototypical Predacons conceived as an Autobot subgroup instead of Decepticons. So, it isn't actually something that existed in anything official.Cyberpath wrote:

The Anibots: Rhioceros (Clump),
Eagle (Shriek), Lion (Simba),
Buffalo (Thump), & Leopard (Pardo)
They combine to become the
"Mechano-Beast". This is the end
of the three versions.
The 1st version looks like a
monster with outer spiketail
structure & transforms a second

The 3rd version
is a "Hydra" with
five heads.

Additional Unused Concept Art by Floro Dery - Mechanobeast, Quintessa, Junkion, Crystal of Power
- Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
Thanks to fellow Seibertronians Sabrblade and Cyberpath, we get to take a look at some more concept art by Floro Dery, to add to the image heavy post from a while back. The artist has added the images below to the Etsy store previously mentioned, so take a look below at some never seen before G1 artwork!

"Massive grabber from a hole on the spiked moon of the Quintesson planet, from the animated Transformers movie."
"Close shot of the junk lined corridor of the Junkion planet, from the Transformers series."

"The Crystal of Power from "Fire on the Mountain"

"The mechano-beast, from the animated Transformers movie."
Sabrblade has also looked at the image closely, and figured out its actual identity:

Re: Cybertron's robot mode (unused concept art by Floro Dery)
Ah, I'd been trying to picture Dragon Beast ever since that TFTM draft surfaced. This mostly has me curious to see Dery's other takes, but maybe he never quite got to a viable combination scheme. Looks like the head is Clump's rhino head, and the wings come from Shriek.
Given his eventual status as Predaking's archenemy, I wonder if Dery had seen the Sky Lynx toy before drawing this. No real evidence of it here, but as he was the first truly dragon-ish TF, and had a spaceship mode as mentioned in the text, I have to wonder if it was an influence.

Or Skylynx was the eventual result of the early concept. Back then, I doubt if the technology would have spawned an actual toy.

Sky Lynx's mold was from the same toyline as Omega Supreme's mold, so it probably already existed back then.fenrir72 wrote:Or Skylynx was the eventual result of the early concept. Back then, I doubt if the technology would have spawned an actual toy.

Re: Cybertron's robot mode (unused concept art by Floro Dery)
I'm not sure if this one is Transformers related --
It reminds me of this piece from an old interview.
Unvorsum is the poetic Latin word for the Universe. Unvorsum, shown in the first drawing above, is a galactic robot, he's a transmuter in the symbiotic topological realm that's parallel to the physical Universe. He derives his power from an enormous black hole in his body, and through an opening he devours planets, stars and other galaxies. Unvorsum topologically transmutes into a multi-dimensional gigantic galaxy, as shown in the second drawing, that's greater than any known galaxy. Attached to his back is his parasitic mini-sidekick galaxy. Copyright (c) 2013 by Floro Dery.
Signed prints are available at:

It reminds me of this piece from an old interview.
TFPH: If you told to create Unicron in your style, do you think he still be a planet? or something else? like a giant space crab perhaps.
Floro Dery: I was not told by anyone when I created the design of Unicron. In fact, the writer's idea is different from mine. However, if I redesign Unicron again, I will make him bigger and like a galaxy.

Interesting. I can look into this to see if there's anything further to be revealed about the nature of this drawing before it gets news'd.

Yea, those two Cyclonus are still from when Cyclonus was supposed to have a clone army similar to Scourge and his Sweeps.
Any news on his artbook?
