MISB Collecting; A Serious Disorder?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

I like to keep some MISB. It's not always about the playing with and posing the figures, sometimes it is just about completion, or finding, or being able to keep a rarity in it's present condition, or keeping it that way to remind you of more innocent times when walking through a toy store.

MISB takes up a lot of space no doubt. If you can afford it, it is great though and can be just as satisfying as getting the toy out and playing with it. For most things I cannot afford it.

I don't own duplicates of all my transformers.. as you guys could tell when I posted pics of my collection.. however, I do wish at times that I could go back and do that with them, much in the same way I bought the Marvel legends..

however, back in the day, the marvel legends used to be 6.00

which would be only 12.00 every few weeks..maybe 24.00, which was 4 figures total, 2 of the same each.. One to open one to keep closed..

But with the recent trend of Transformers deluxes.. I used to remember them being cheaper as well.. and even if there is supposed to be a cost adjustment, people tend to forget that cost adjustment can go 2 ways.. instead of an increase, the market can cause a decrease..which is my argument for why Hasbro has their deluxes at 9.99 when they should be a bit cheaper..IMHO..5.99

I mean it is a recession...and prices should fall to match that..raising them to cover costs is the struggle that eventually gives way to market forces.. plastics suppliers should also be lowering prices.. and then you have the fuel costs associted with delivery transport...

you know this is a long and drawn out way of saying I'd like for prices to fall on the deluxes so I can buy 2 of each!!

anyways.. I like the Japanese issued versions of toys because I can open the boxes and "EASILY" remove the figure and replace it..much like skywarped_128 said previously,

SKYWARPED_128 wrote:As a rule, I open up TF's with packages that I can put them back in, without them looking as if they've been opened before. In other words, that leaves most deluxe figures MISB, with the voyagers and leaders alternately on display and MIB. Since I don't plan to sell the figures, I don't need them MISB to preserve value.

I just like to keep them in boxes for aesthetic purposes.

In any case, the nature of a TF as a dual-mode toy makes it really tough for me to keep them MISB.

Though it's a bit big for the size of the figure, the Unverse Special Edition packaging for Drag Strip is great for display. It can serve as a display case because you can open the front cover to show off the figure. You can open the box and take out the figure and then put it back later on without any sign of disturbance. The black colour of the box and black and white art make it look real sharp. It's too bad it's a rarity in the non-Japanese style packaging for Transformers.

Haha this argument reminds me of The 40 year old Virgin movie. How he stresses over taking the figures out of the boxes.

I can see leaving them in for value purposes, but it'd have to be some rare GI Joe figure, or a G1 to keep boxed. I never really saw the point. I don't even keep my diecast cars in their boxes. If value is what you seek, I understand that. But to display them in boxes is border-line idiocracy. Aside from taking up space, and money it's pointless. I do keep the boxes, I don't think MISB is the olny way to preserve value, as long as you keep the figure complete and keep the box, with no visable damage anywhere then you're fine.

From what I can tell the economy works like yelling FIRE! in a crowded building. When one company goes down every other company starts to panic. So they raise their prices to stay afloat. That causes a domino effect of prices raising which causes people to buy less which causes more companies to go under. Then someone finally realizes that the building was never on fire, and the idiot who started it did it to himself. Then things get back to normal.

Bringing back an old thread because I think I have this disease. I've only been collecting for a little under 2 months and I already spent a little over $500. I greatly value most of the Universe 2.0's so they are MISB. The only ones I opened were ROTF Bruticus, ROFT Skywarp, ROFT Ironhide and Titanium Series Thrust. The only others that are opened are G1 Devastator and Universe Starscream cuz they came that way when I bought them on BBTS. I really do want to play with the Universes that I bought as well as the Perceptor and Insecticons re-issue, I just don't want to screw around with the box. It looks better in the box and during dusting time, it's so much easier. I feel like I have this disease because once a week, or sometimes even twice, I have a "TF run." TRU, Target, Walmart are all within a mile or 2 of each other. My friends call me their "40yr Old Virgin." I like that title, because I feel like I'm living my childhood again, without the whole opening the box ordeal.

Don't give my wife any more ideas! She already thinks we're sick. Even though she *mostly* supports my habit.

It did disturb her when I bought both the Takara and e-Hobby versions of reissue G1 Galvatron. But I can see where a 'normal' would find that odd.
