Preface:
I'm choosing the cartoon forum cause I think a cartoon show of the expanded movie line would work but if its better in General Mods please move as you may see fit.
Point:
I'm liking some of the new designs that Hasbro has come out with that are in the vein of the movie based characters. Glad to not see a glut of redecoed Cyberton or Energon toys just inserted into new packaging. I really like the Real Gear figs but the others like Dropkick,Longarm,Swindle etc are cool as well.
Have any of you read the back of the newer figs like Landmine? On the back it sets up a brief 2 line explanation for these characters. It says something to the effect that "During the final battle with Megatron for the Allspark a release of energy has given life to many". That is not exact but the point is its a good place to start.
I'd love to see all these characters given personality and developed in a cartoon series. It would be a way to keep the movie themes alive until 2009 when the next movie hits.
I know The Animated Series is launched and the toy tie ins are coming. Just as I know the movie toys are slated to fade at the same time. However, I'd still like to see it and think it would be a cool concept to explore. If CSI, Law and Order and Star Trek can have multiple shows running then I think 2 animated Transformers cartoons is also workable.
What do you guys/gals think?

I think Animated is a fine series to be bridged the gap between the Movies.
Especially since if they did make a cartoon based in the movie Universe, it would more than likely be ignored when the sequel movies are released.

Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Perhaps a web toon kind of thing where it's just ambiguous to be in the same universe as the movie without making it research material.

I agree.
Moreover, not everyone who watched the movie would watch the cartoon. They would miss out on any major stuff in the cartoon....

I wouldn't be advocating that the cartoon be necessary to any future movies. The movie toon verse would become its own thing not dependent on the movies(except for its beginnings as a show).
It could borrow from any TF:2 or TF:3 movie but not be linked directly. The movie story would be independent of the toon, the toon would only borrow if it chose to and have its own stories.
Like all cartoons it wouldn't be geared to the same mass crowd that a movie gets. It would be targeted at the 6-12year olds but no doubt still draw some older viewers if done well.

I often thought a prequel cartoon series would be great.

"We, Decepticons, are a swell bunch. And boy do we have fun." - Starscream
"You're one of...those, Never understood why any self respecting Decepticon would choose auto-mobile as his vehicle mode when he could have flight." - Starscream
"For a guy hearing voices of the dead, you've got a pretty insensitive view of Mental Health" - Bumblebee
