My Job Sucks.

Postby Damolisher » Sun Oct 14, 2007 6:03 pm

Well, I work at KFC, dunno what it's like in other countries, but it's a hole here in New Zealand. And seriously, I swear, I have to deal with the biggest morons in all the land, man, seriously. I've been working there for nearly 3 years now, just as a part-time job to earn some cash, and my tolerance for people has gone down the drain. Anyone else have to deal with stupid people? Got a story to tell about them? Here's the place to tell us. Mine's just a general issue with people asking for "Coke" or "Sprite" or "Fanta" instead of Pepsi, 7-up and Mirinda. I mean, our cups and drinks tower have "Pepsi" written on them, for crying out loud.

I manage a deli bakery in a grocery store. An elderly woman came up to the counter, pointed to cucumber salad and told me she wanted a pound of that ground beef there. I told her the meat department was across the way and she bought the cucumber salad anyway. I went outside on break and saw her DRIVE away as in operating a vehicle on her own. If she can't tell cucumbers from ground beef how has she not killed someone with her car?

I work for a bank in a grocery store that doesnt perform credit checks for new accounts, or any other form of pre-screening, so I end up with the people that cant use a regular bank cause their credit sux and/or they owe another bank money(usually us)

For those of you in the Chicagoland area, Indiana, Colorado, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, I work at TCF Bank, aka the crappiest bank ever. If you've had a bad experience there let me know

I worked at a Subway for two years. We had a bread called "monterey cheddar". People would come in and ask for "montgomery cheddar" and they'd call the "honey oat" "honey wheat". Stuff like that bothered me. Also, they'd come to me at the bread and meat section and rattle off all the veggies they wanted. Idiots!!

I'm glad I'm out of retail. Although if you really want some stupidity, I work in the IT (corporate computer repair) field and I'm helping people that make the people I used to deal with in retail look like Einstein.

Stupid Customers. They're convinced they're better than you because you're behind the counter. I always hear my pencil-pushing friends tell me to get a real job. Fact is, they push pencils because they can't handle a job like mine. All the customer evr sees is you standing behind the counter, because that's where you have to be to wait on a customer. They think that's all you do. My dad used to work in a factory and said he'd quit if they had to do half my work.

I could write a book about stupid customers, but this one takes the cake. During my first few years after high school, I would work ANY job I could, just to have some experience under my belt. One of those was backline at Arby's in the mall (backline= sandwich maker for those who haven't worked there). I usually worked either there or the register, and MamaKitty (who was not yet my wife then) worked the other register.

This particular afternoon was slow, MamaKitty was on the register and me on the backline. Then the old man approached, and looked over the menu.

Old Man: I wan't a big mac
MamaKitty: we don't have those
Old Man: Then give me a quarter pounder
MamaKitty: we don't have those
Old Man: well, what do you have
MamaKitty: roast beef
Old Man: no, I'll just have a big mac
MamaKitty: we do not sell hamburgers
Old Man: THEN WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU CALL YOURSELVES MCDONALDS FOR!

WOW...that old guy must have been senile

My first job was at an Ace Hardware by my house.
I was behind the key-making counter with my manager and this old guy comes out of one of the electrical isles holding a sales ad

He starts asking if were are going to get more of these outdoor electrical timers for Christmas lights because they are sold out

My manager and I explain to him that they are in short supply and what we had is probably all that we will be getting for a while

The guys gets pissed and starts bitching about how we shouldnt be sending out ads for things we dont have, because :his time matters too" as if we were responsible, and as soon as he got out of earshoot my boss started searing at him

One time before that this lady and her husband came in w/ a corporate ad looking for a pesticide that my store didnt happen to carry. I didnt think we had it, but looked for it to humor then, then explained that each store didnt always carry everything that the warehouse distributed and that it looked like we dint have it

They leave and about five minutes later the boss from the above story radios me asking if we have the same pesticide, Because I worked in the damn seasonal department and he was in charge of paint. I walk up front out of curiosity to find the same exact people I had helped standing there with him and told him we didnt carry that product

i hate jackasses who think that just because youre young you dont know anything

Same kinda stuff happened at TCF when I was just a teller, and my suoervisor would just walk up and tell them that what I told them was right
Now that I'm a supervisor people have to listen to me, it's nice, even if they are morons half of the time

Not everyone realizes that Pepsi owns Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell. I've known this for a long time however.

If you worked in a small restaurant though, I would expect more patience on your behalf as they can serve anything.

Of course, I can speak from both sides of the fence. I worked in a small restaurant/bar/motel/banquet hall thing for 3 years and a McDonalds for 1 year.

I can't count how many times people came through our drive thru at Mcdonalds asking for a Bud Light.

I worked a mcdonalds before signing up for the Air Force.
sometimes I feel like that job drove me into the military.Every day idiots would ask for things not on the menu, demand hotter fires or less ice,or finding other ways to make your shift more difficult. Some times I would get real winners who thought they could curse me out to show off to their friends.I would stoop to their level because my superiors knew they couldn't get someone else to do my job for the **** wages they give in the states and no-overtime (7.15 USD hr. pays the bills and very little else)
Whenever I go to a fast food joint I do my best to not give the
cashier hard time.8 hours at a register 5 times a week to me is like taking drugs that only contain negative side effects.
Plus that douche bag manager telling me to put that dumb ass demeaning hat and force a smile (store policy)out of my near soulless body
made me tell my recruiter to get me out out that god forsaken city as soon as possible.

I had a McJob in High School, and worked in a Deli in a Coles Supermarket through Uni.

I didn't like people beforehand, after both those jobs I severely despise the human species as a whole. I have had to deal with far far too many people whose parents should not have been able to breed/they themselves should not be able to breed.

While I hated the stupidity in my job, as well as the rude people, I never treated the customers badly. That makes you worse than them, because the customers are always right, no matter what, because it's their dollars that provide your job. I'm about to go take over my grandmother's store, and it has its fair share of stupid customers (I worked there nearly a year in high school) I'd never be a jerk to them. As an owner or manager, I'd never be rude to anyone that is throwing money at me. I'll just be screaming on the inside.

There comes a point when that has to stop. The store I work in was a mess before the boss cleaned it up. You'd be amazed at how many college students believe they own the whole town.

The customer is NOT always right. Case in point: "I didn't give you a five, I gave you a hundred."

Second case in point: "I'm gonna kick the crap out of you because I'm an @sshole."

Yes, you have to be nice to the customers...up to a point.

The rules in our store are:
1. You be nice to the customers (all customers)
2. You are not paid enough to be cussed out by customers...It also offends other customers.
3. If they swing first, all bets are off.

no job is worth be degraded for.Being a customer doesn't give you free rain to treat employees like ****.Thats why you got collage boys throwing fountain sodas at workers indrive thrus and uploading it to youtube. Its not a matter of the customer being right, its a matter of low-lives thinking they can treat minimum wage makers like garbage.

Well, obviously if you are being threatened or they are attempting to cheat you, they are wrong, but I'm saying that their attitude is what it is, and as long as they are purchasing something, they can be as unpleasant as they want to, short of using foul language. If they are just unfriendly, you have to just grin and bear it. I've found that if you are overly friendly back to them, they find it mighty hard to continue being a jerk. Then again, since I'm female it might make a difference.

Yeah, I've sworn at customers before, but they started it, and with our job ATM, it's a very "I don't really give a **** about the customer" place, since we're low on staff and everyone's tired of the crappy hours we get. But yeah, this jerk comes through drive-thru one night, it's kinda busy, our Eftpos machine is broken. So I said to him "Sorry, sir, you're going to need to bring back cash, since our machine's broken. And he's like "What the ****? That's a load of ****ing bullshit! For ****'s sake!" "You don't need to swear at me, it's not magically gonna fix the machine." He starts really going off, til I had enough and said "Look, I don't need this ****. You don't like it, piss off and eat somewhere else." And shut the window on him. He drove off.

*Stands up* Hi everyone, my name is ZeroZero, and I work in retail.

Yeah, I work in a supermarket (Unfortunately...), the produce section to be more precise.

I get plenty of silly customers. They're always asking me where the eggs, milk, sugar, jam are kept... How should I know?! I don't work in the grocery section! But being asked so many times, I know where all those items are now.

And when we run out of a particular thing, the customers usually, whinge or sulk about it. Hey, we can't help it if all the red capsicum's have sold. Those stupid customers can't blame us for doing our job.

Despite them being annoying, rude, ignorant, etc. I don't mind the customers. I hate the people I work with much more. Biggest bunch of c*cks out. I'm busting my balls all day, while my "hard working" manager talks to the other managers and whatnot, and does f*uck all! But if I, even for a second, talk to someone, I'm slacking off, and I need to hurry up.

As bad as some of the customers are, I hate my manager much more.

Right, they did that to us at Subway too, even go up to 39 hours, but only usually for the managers. Let's keep in mind, though, that it costs the owner of the business money to purchase these plans, and if they are only paying you minimum wage or slightly higher to begin with, they sure as hell don't want to buy your health insurance. Also, small businesses really can't afford it. Call me cold, but I'm not covering an employee's health care if they work only 20 hours a week and are worth only $6 an hour to me. You have to see it from that perspective.

You know, I heard that one of the car companies spends more on their employee's health care than for steel.

When I worked at Toys 'R' overpriced I had a 25 hour contract... they gave me 50 hours a week.

I've had a lot of stupid customers but the best one is this story from when I was working in a cinema: Picture that you're me, I have just steped through a door and a lost looking customer is stareing blankly in m direction no more than half a meter away. they notice me and look really relieved. "Do you know where the toilets are?" they ask. Guess which door I had just steped through? Yeah, the bathroom door.
