Need an Idea on how much I could get for my collection

Postby vdragonlance » Sat Aug 29, 2009 6:10 pm

I need to sell my TF collection, but I have no idea on how much I should ask, Here is what I have.

Classics:
Voyager Optimus Prime (no instructions)
Voyager Ultra Magnus
Voyager Nemesis Prime
Voyager Jetfire
Voyager Henkei Megatron (includes original box)
Re-issue G1 Soundwave with Laserbeak and Ravage (includes original box )
Ultra Onslaught
Ultra Powerglide (no instructions)
Deluxe Starscream
Deluxe Starscream (version with toon color deco)
Deluxe Skywarp
Deluxe Ramjet
Deluxe Galvatron
Deluxe Cyclonus
Deluxe Tankor
Deluxe Grimlock (modded his shoulders so the screws don't show up in bot mode)
Deluxe Prowl (painted his windows blue)
Deluxe Sunstreaker
Deluxe Hound with Ravage
Deluxe Mirage
Deluxe Henkei Hotrod
Deluxe Sideswipe
Deluxe Optimus Prime with Deluxe Megatron
Legends Bumblebee
Masterpiece Starscream Walmart version (also includes Megatron gun from Masterpiece Optimus Prime)

Alternators:
Smokescreen (no instructions)
Ravage Jaguar XK

T.H.S 02 Optimus Prime (includes original box )

I have a few movie and animated TFs, but the bulk of my collection are the Classics.

They are all in good shape, they include all their original parts and instructions unless stated.

Any help would be appreciated and I can post pics if need be.

Not a ton of traffic here. Responses won't come that quickly. I'd say you might be able to pull $300 for the lot. When you try to sell whole collections, the prices tend to come down drastically (to retail or less, oftentimes, for loose toys). Might be able to make a bit more if you piece it out. At the same time, it's Classics, and I won't say the majority, but a LOT of collectors already have most or all of those, and collectors just getting into the hobby oftentimes tend to be younger and therefore have less money and are willing to spend less money.

Collecting non-vintage stuff is tough to turn a profit on these days unless you just happen to have stocked up on what just happens to be hot at a certain time (for instance, right now, Classics Ultra Magnus seems to be a big seller, but you might get $8 for Prime). Obviously that will vary and you may find that one buyer who'll pay more or just happen to need a figure you've been holding onto for 2 years that no one else wanted. You'll also find the opinions of buyers and sellers on message boards such as this will differ GREATLY from those on ebay. I just bought a toy on a message board for $50 that was selling regularly for $70+ on ebay, and the seller thought it was a perfectly fair price, while I felt like I got a deal.

That's a lot of random information...I hope some part of it helps.

I have to agree with Robowang. He's pretty much right on with the way things tend to go on message boards. I've been buying and selling on sites like this for about 3 years now for various reasons. I might buy a lot of 10 figures for only 2 figures for either a custom I wanna make or for a figure I want and then I'll try to sell off the rest. The reason I'll buy bigger lots is that people like you are trying to move everything in quick transaction so they tend to go for less than the sum of the figures if you sold them separately. I understand selling separately can be a chore but it depends on your goal. You have to take into account the time is takes you to complete each transaction and ship each one.

All that being said I'd have to agree that $300 is around what I'd pay just because it's a good deal for me to get the lot for that price because I'd like a few things and I'm willing to sell the rest of it off or I might just make a ton of customs because I'm really into Classics stuff right now.

Send me a PM if you decide to sell them separately or in bundles. There are about 5-8 things I'd really like to get from you

And I will kindly respond to that by saying that if you haven't moved a big lot you're trying to unload, and someone offers to purchase a significant amount of the toys you have listed, such as in the previous post, it's probably a good idea to negotiate a fair price and go for it. Moving 5 toys at a time is still easier than moving 1 at a time :)

Thanks for the help guys. I would rather sell them all in one go, I know that will be harder than selling a couple here and there. I would also like to try and sell them locally, but if I can't find a buyer in AZ, I will look into selling them over the Internet.

I noticed BBTS buys TFs, do you think they will give me a fair price for the whole lot?

Classics:
Voyager Optimus Prime (no instructions) $20.00
Voyager Ultra Magnus $50.00
Voyager Nemesis Prime $40.00
Voyager Jetfire $18.00
Voyager Henkei Megatron (includes original box) $35.00
Re-issue G1 Soundwave with Laserbeak and Ravage (includes original box ) $40.00
Ultra Onslaught $18.00
Ultra Powerglide (no instructions) $15.00
Deluxe Starscream $10.00
Deluxe Starscream (version with toon color deco) $12.00
Deluxe Skywarp $25.00
Deluxe Ramjet $9.00
Deluxe Galvatron $9.00
Deluxe Cyclonus $12.00
Deluxe Tankor $14.00
Deluxe Grimlock (modded his shoulders so the screws don't show up in bot mode) $10.00 (modded or not its just not a popular fig)
Deluxe Prowl (painted his windows blue) $10.00
Deluxe Sunstreaker $10.00
Deluxe Hound with Ravage $15.00
Deluxe Mirage $15.00
Deluxe Henkei Hotrod $30.00
Deluxe Sideswipe $10.00
Deluxe Optimus Prime with Deluxe Megatron $15.00 (This set is still in discount stores today)
Legends Bumblebee $10.00
Masterpiece Starscream Walmart version (also includes Megatron gun from Masterpiece Optimus Prime) $60.00

Alternators:
Smokescreen (no instructions) $20.00
Ravage Jaguar XK $30.00

T.H.S 02 Optimus Prime (includes original box ) $45.00

I've listed fair, normal prices for each figure. BBTS will only give you half of what the figures are worth, so only sell to them if you're just looking for a fast buck.

My advice, piece it out, give a discount on lot buys, and deliver quickly. Good luck.

BBTS offered me $280($335 store credit) for most of the collection, it doesn't include the ones that were modded. I think I'm going to take the offer instead of going through all the hassle of trying to sell them separately.
