Am I the only one who is a little bit surprised/disappointed that there has been no mention on the boards about the horrific attacks in Norway this weekend? I've been hanging fire for the past couple of days hoping somebody, anybody, would post their commiserations.
Sixty-eight people, one of the youngest was just fourteen, were killed when Anders Breivik opened fire at a Labour Party youth camp.
Link to eye-witness accounts to the atrocity.

RIP to the victims of Utoeya Island and the bombing in Oslo.

I'll be honest, I don't have anything to say on the matter other than acknowledging the tragedy of it all. I have no desire to discuss the politics around it.
It's very sad news indeed. It's just not something I would care to discuss on a message board like this one. If we have users from that area who want to discuss it, they're free to.

Yet it's frowned upon for international users of the board to stimulate discussion? I don't understand the vibe I'm getting here.
Yeah, it happened a long way away for many of the users on the board, but at the end of the day seventy young people have lost their lives, and I thought it was something worthwhile to gauge considerations for the reasons behind it all. Seibertron used to be quite vibrant and diverse in the 'After Dark' political forum and there were a lot of really interesting discussions between knowledgeable people. I don't know why news stories are no longer posted, but I would encourage users to do so and to post their opinions on them. Just because we're on a Transformers message board doesn't mean that it isn't an appropriate place to discuss serious matters like this.

It's safe to assume that I'm just taking the piss.

I believe my post says exactly the opposite of that. Please re-read it.

It may be tit-for-tattle, but you appear to be implying that it is a matter to be discussed by users 'from that area'?

It's safe to assume that I'm just taking the piss.

You've inferred the most blunt interpretation of what I said, especially when you omit the previous line talking about my opinions.
Just because I'm a moderator does not mean that I have to avoid giving my opinion on matters and it does not mean I am setting policy on a topic by stating my opinion.
If and when I actually take action on the matter, that's a different story.

My local news brought up the story and stated the attorney of the man was going to use an insanity plea. It was stated that the man was saying he is a warrior defending the Western World from muslims. He isn't from the Western world and he wasn't targeting muslims, but his own countrymen. It sounds like it is a psychopath killing people and then making up a story afterward.

That wasn't my intention, I was just highlighting the relevant part of the post. As you did when replying to me.
I am well aware that you have every right to express your opinion, along with any other user on the site. But when your opinion is nothing more than "well, I don't really want to talk about it" then you have to question why you posted in the first place.

Yeah, I think the 'insanity' plea is probably the best way forward. Trying to analyse why Anders did this is the best approach to ensure it doesn't happen again. As you pointed out, he's claiming to be concerned with what he calls 'Islamification' and yet chooses to express those concerns by murdering a bunch of Labour Party Youth members? He claims that it's a "wake up call" to the government on the issue of immigration, but anything he's just highlighting the innate hypocrisy of himself and the Far Right as a movement.

It's safe to assume that I'm just taking the piss.

That's the highest unless the judge determines that the person poses a continuing threat to the public and then it can be extended as necessary.

I thought they were going to get him up for Crimes Against Humanity? Wouldn't that mean he would be put on trial at the Hague?

Don't know about that, but what my local news said is that he's getting rather luxurious imprisonment. Not only that, he gets to order himself some specific meat-dishes! Something from the Islamic lands. And although it was said to me that it's for so that he couldn't speak with anyone from the outside, I still find it wrong.
Because basically he gets to live in luxurious prison, eating exotic meat after such a tremendous act against humans! My father told me that in the Soviet-era such guys would just "disappear" from prisons and would never be seen again.
Did you know that he wanted an open trial and that he wanted to perform there, wearing a military-uniform? Thankfully, both requests were denied. He ain't gonna get no sympathy from me, my sympathy is with the families of the lost.

The last news said he got transferred to a basic prison - but even if he is judged with crimes against humanity, he could only get 30 years.
(in my opinion, his 1500-page "work" should be burned before his eyes just before he gets into an electric chair... or the old "rat-in-a-heated-box" sentence should be used on this madman)

Yeah, I'm afraid that it would be turned into a show trial and would do little more than give the psycho a platform to spew his vitriol. Saying that, I think it's important to get into his head and understand what drove him to this massacre.

It's safe to assume that I'm just taking the piss.
