So...did anyone notice the one guy's helmet smoking slightly and covered in a familiar green goo?

Who could miss that, I mean he's in the trailer for like 0.5 seconds, just watch it in slow-mo like normal people.

It's just, everyone saying there's not going to be Xenos in it, while a guy is clearly having his face melted off by acid. It's kind of a distinctive thing in this universe.

That looked pretty dull to me. I love the alien movies, but that looks more like a natural disaster movie.

I'm going to modify my original thoughts: Xenos could possibly be in the film, but wont' be the main focus.
I watched the original Alien tonight, and "The Company"(were they officially Weyland at this point?) definitely knew about the Alien, and where it was located. This film could show their first encounter with the Xenomorphs. Who knows, maybe it's a higher evolved state of the Space Jockey's? Still, I don't expect them till the last third, maybe even after credits.

Went and saw Prometheus today, I understand now why Ridley Scott is saying it's NOT a prequel to Alien.
And it really isn't.
It IS set before Alien in the Alien universe however, and while there are connections to Alien (ship, space jockey) they're not directly from Alien. Same species, same ship type, different planet.
What this movie is about is humans discovering our own origins, plus we see the birth of the Alien (Xenomorph) species.
Is it a good movie? Heck yeah! And it does leave it open for a potential sequel, which in turn COULD be a direct prequel to Alien.

Dammit I was wrong again.
Yea there is going to be a sequel, Ridley Scott said so already, he even stated that he might turn it into a whole new franchise, damn I thought that was a misinformation campaign.
And I still have to wait an entire month till I can go see it

I just read an interview with him where he said he wanted to make it a direct prequel, but he couldn't because the sequels ruined the Alien story. (He didn't name names, but he referred to all the sequels.) So he had to go further back in the universe and come up with an all-new story to create, he couldn't just make 1 film that would lead up to the 1st Alien, because then he would have nowhere to go afterwards.

This movie, at the very least, writes AVP 1 & 2 out of existence I feel. As we're introduced to what is, quite literally, the mother of all face huggers.
(If you ever wondered what came first, the Queen or the Egg, this pretty much answers the question)
Like I said, it's the birth of the Xenomorph species, though time line wise it takes place AFTER AVP (which is set in modern times) and Xenomorph's are firmly established to be around, thus we write out the existence of AVP.
Of course it could be reasoned that AVP happens, Xenos are around, and this is just a wayward ship. It can be interpreted a few different ways really. Though the Weyland Corporation would have some knowledge of them, which isn't the case here. Humans are basically still looking for other life.
Still a good movie though, well worth the watch.

I went to see it earlier this week. This just proves that the host influences the xenomorph that comes out, it all plays out like an experiment halfway through. But CRAP I need more of this stuff. Origin questions are answered, hurray... The 'how' we know... But the 'why' is up in the air.

Ehhh... A few friends went to see it last night and they were less then thrilled. But then again they had alot higher expectations than i do.I'll still go see it, but from what i've been hearing it just isn't living up to all the hype.

Influences? I've always thought of it as whatever species is involved.
Even though the DNA is the same I figure the difference is in the type of face hugger.
But the 'why' is up in the air.
Only theory I have on that is we were going to be weapons, or at the very least, breeding stock for their real weapons (Xenos)

I didn't think of it that way. Not bad.

Humans should have been far dumber in order for that to be effective. It could be blamed on the various stuff that was going on in those hyve-things, they where simply testing what works on what. Why the humans where on the deathlist, that's where it gets interesing. Also- the whole DNA business at the start of the movie... WTF.
BTW- I really like this flick.

Well they were visiting us for centuries, perhaps to keep us in line?
Then they ran into trouble, couldn't get back to keep a leash on us so we progressed.
Though that defeats the whole "they've left us a map" thing.

That's obviously how they seed planets. His DNA mixed with whatever was in the water, humans evolved from that.
So we were created, but there's also a touch of Darwinism involved.
I'm starting to think this is a very complex movie.

Nope. Actually it's a pretty well-known fact that the host determines what kind of Xenomorph comes out. Like the dog-alien in Alien 3, or the Predaliens.

ah ... yeah ... that's what I said.
You have seen the movie haven't you? If you did you'd understand why that theory doesn't quite work and why it may be a result of the face hugger.

Whatever it is, it's a well-documented fact that the type of facehugger is irrelevant, mostly because Queens are only ever shown producing the one kind, whereas chest bursters, when shown bursting out of something that isn't human, always has distinct characteristics of the host. Like the Predaliens.
Haven't seen the movie yet, no, but I have seen a a close-up of a Predator getting it's face hugged. The facehugger looked like any other facehugger; the chest buster most certainly did not.

This is not your typical face hugger.
It did not emerge from an egg laid by a queen, as there are no queens to lay any eggs. It was conceived the same way human babies are conceived, the father just happened to be infected with the Xeno virus.

It's impossible to state any facts about this. Storywise we're dealing with proto-facehuggers and proto-xenomorphs (I can't believe I just said those things) and the experimental nature of those facilities leave a load of options open. It's not unthinkable that those other hyves contained the more traditional Xenomorphs... Or even that this crashed spacejockeyship is the same as in Alien (sure the human corpses would decay, but where have their clothes and suits gone?).
Beyond that, Scott sorta disregards the sequels and isn't overly kind towards them. So Alien vs. Predator isn't the number 1 candidate to derive canon from.

Did it looks something like this:
(Warning following images show aliens face rape some dude)
http://www.museumsyndicate.com/item.php?item=20297
Or this:
http://www.museumsyndicate.com/item.php?item=20298
Also, yes it's the host that decides what the Xenomorph looks like. We've seen it in Alien 3, and we can see it with the original Xenomorph and the "details" it has on its body (mostly male and female reproductive organs).
Even ignoring the Predalien.
So far Riddley Scott has only piled hate on the Alien vs Predator movies, especially the first since at the time it came out he was working on an Alien 5, yes 5 and not a prequel, which he then cancelled due to Aliens vs Predator "being nothing but a cash-in".

Re: Prometheus: So it is an Alien prequel
K i havent seen this movie yet so i want an honest opinion
Is this movie **** or not?
will i watch it and feel the same way i did when i saw AVP 1+2?
i LOVE alien and to me Aliens and Alien 3 were fantastic.
The only thing i didnt like about Alien 3 was how the statis pods were wrong at the start of the film
Alien 4 was just awful but i did like the ending of the Special edition version were Ripley goes back to earth only to find Mankind had destroyed earth rather than the aliens she was trying to stop. I felt it was a fitting ending to the series but that the entire film itself was the most awful piece of crap i had seen in a long time
I want to see Prometheus but im worried i will feel cheated like how AVP 1+2 make you feel.
Is this actually a good film or not? does it stay close to the Alien roots?
Also does ridley scott think aliens and alien 3 are bad movies? Aliens is one of the best films ever made and the best sequal to a movie i thinks ever been made (aside from LOTD the Two Towers which comes second) i can understand why he might not like Alien 3 as that movie had trouble from the start but i do feel that the special edition version (will all the extra scenes) made up for it.

No, he only dislikes AVP and AVPR.

Well, AVP did turn my love for Alien completely off. It stank.
